Ravens Reportedly Not Interested In Favre

24 posts in this topic

Baltimore Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh and staff are reportedly showing little to no interest in aquiring Packers Great Brett Favre. As Harbaugh stated earlier on in the year, There will now certainly be an "open competition between Boller, Troy Smith, and Joe Flacco" as this team had or has already been down that road before, most recently being that of the Now-retired Steve McNair, whom the Ravens Team, was hoping to get one more good year or season, out of him and help the development of the younger generation of Raven Quarterbacks among us today. So in an effort to ditch the veteran Approach to the Ravens current Quarterback Dilemma, the Ravens are showing little to no interest in the aquisition of the legendary Green Bay QB, and relying on the Coaches, and Coordinators, to Help further their crop of Quarterbacks, hoping with that way of aproach, the Team would be or have, a better off chance in making something happen.

I would have no problem with Favre being here, but this is probably how it should be anyway and I stick with the coaches decisions if they want to leave it up to Smith, Flacco, and Boller. One of them is going to have a really solid year...

yeah, but....

Harb said that earlier on in the year when Favre didnt appear to be available. Remember B4 McNair retired the game plan was for a Vet Qb to take our young qb's (would have been flacco) under his wing. Only after he(Mc9) retired did it become apparent that the Ravens were in need of a QB competition. There was nobody(QB) on the Free Agency market worth while this year that the Ravens thought they could bring in as a legitimate starter or trust me it would have happened. So now that the tables have turned a lil maybe going after Favre instead of having a QB battle for the starting job will be the better option of the 2. By all means there can still be a qb competition, after all someone will have to be cut..and the number 2 man would be up in the air.

If Favre comes to our team its going to be mainly due to Biscotti and Ozzie. If Biscotti feels his team is 1 QB from taking the ship you better believe he is going to have a say in the ordeal. Afterall he did feel that way for the past 2 years. (BIiscotti is a huge Brett Favre fan by the way)

I know there may have been a "source" saying the Ravens are not interested...but why would they (Ravens font office) show their hand right now when the rest of the table hasn't even been dealt? Favre and the Packers are still in a drama packed situation, certain things still have to unfold. Just because it may seem like things are going down the path to a trade, doesn't mean it will. After all, it is still only speculation. So why would the Ravens show interest and risk possibly tipping off what they think their value of favre is, over "speculation" so other teams can have the advantage and upper hand on offers?

If the Ravens were interested it would be best by all sides to stay out of the lime light until everyone knows exactly what Favre's situation will be for 08. Me i think the smart thing to do is what until all the offers are on the table and then after i see my opponents hand i lay down my Aces full of kings.

Man, I don't even know what to think anymore. This whole Favre thing may just be out of reach.

Hey, I still think it would be great if we got him but.........

IDK. I'm losing faith here

I don't understand why we wouldn't at least be "interested," but I respect our staff's decision either way because I trust that they will do what is best for the team... even though, in my opinion having Favre IS best for the team.

I agree, this is good news. We've tried our hand at older quarterbacks and it's never worked except for McNair's first year with us.

As well as Favre would function as our "Stop-Gap" between now and the new Flacco era, I'd rather spend the time developing Troy and Flacco together with on-field experience. Yes, they would benefit from Favre, but as long as we are careful with their progression they can be just as good without him.

I love Favre but... I do not think he would fit very well here. I would hate to see his legs get crushed if our O-line performs as it did last year. Anyway I am ready for us to figure out who the QB is for the next few years not just this season.

Favre said that if he were to be traded, he would want to go to a team in which ran the same system or somewhat similiar system to what teh Packers Ran during his time there, that way the transition from Green Bay to whomever it would or maybe, would be that much more easier for him. He said that if there was a possibility in which he could still play and be 100 percent committed to the task at hand, then yea he would come back.

I Kinda feel for Favre on this one, the Packers back in January, February, then finally march, kept in constant contact with the green bay Legend, but they had said that they wanted an honest answer before the Draft and such. Well if your a player of Favre's Calibur and such high profile, things should take a little bit more time to make a decision or two, especially when it's concerning the future of Favre, and the packers. Favre had only one option to go with at the Time of his retirement......to tell the honest truth. which is what he did, and like Favre had said before "sure i could have lied to them, Took the money and went on about my business.....but that wasnt the Honest Truth, i honestly didnt know what i was gonig to do".

Clearly the pressure from the Packers side was getting too much for Favre at the time, to make a decision, you can not just rush into these types of things, its a time staking process in which takes a day to day basis and whether you want to to the traininng, Practicing all over again....all of that, to decide whether or not you were going to play again.

I think that yes, this was a Rushed Decision and its been made clear over the past week and a half or so, Favre just needed a little bit more time to make the ultimate Decision, and sure enough, he looks as though he has made his mind up, he wants to come back and play.

this type of situation is very very common with not only Football but in all sports in everyday life, when you Rush into things, and try to make hasty Decisions because someone wants an answer, most of the time, isnt the answer, a person or player or whomever it may be, may be ready to reitire from whatever, but their mind may say otherwise, like Favre, he was in a tug a war with himself internally which just left him exhuasted from constantly pondering, thinking, wondering, what to do and when. that goes for any and all People in this world, rushed decisions often times lead to the wrong decisions, and often times lead to the person having second thoughts about what they said that particular point in time.

So Now, after he has had time to get away, think about it, and really have some other Fun (like the hunting trip he took) is what he really really needed to make that Huge Decision, he didnt have the stress, wear and tear on his mind, he didnt have any worries (for the most part)....he had eventually came to this decision on his own, on his own terms. which is what the Packers should have let him do from the very very start of it all.

That article didnt even have an official quote. All it said was a team source..probably Mike Duffy, said it would be "unlikely" that the team would be interested in Favre.

So everyone here is telling me that if we could get one of the best QB's to every play the game, for a mid round draft pick, nobody here would want Favre on this team because they would rather Gamble with 2 unproven Qb's and kyle boller?

If Favre could work out his contract so there would be no major issues with money your tellin me you still wouldnt want BRETT FAVRE on our team?

Ravens have something like 8 mill in free cap space as of now. Only major signings our team has to do is sign our draft picks. Thats not taking up 8 mill...All it would take is a little money manegment and bada boom bada bang.

Favres learning curve of the new offense is going to be rather short. He has played under 4-5? offensive systems while in greenbay? When Favre practiced in greenbay during the regular season Aaron Rodgers took the majority of the reps for 1st team, So if he came to baltimore flacco might have even more exposure to the offense then he would if Smith or Boller were to be the starter.

It's BRETT FAVRE!! BRETT FAVRE!!!

A Brett Favre experiment would be a waste of time and money. We have small cap flexibility and we still have valuable players to resign (Terrell Suggs, namely) Not to mention it would shut out opportunities for our other QBs to play.

Yup. Because we should all know for sure that if...(IF) Brett Favre does come to Baltimore then either Boller or Smith would end up being cut if not both of them. On top of that we also need to sign our draft picks. Lets not forget Ray Lewis hasnt re-done his contract. Along with Suggs and Scott and whoever else we need to keep. Ive changed my mind about Favre. Ill pass on him.

where are you guys getting all of these ridiculous ideas about Favre if he comes to our team.

As of 08 either Kyle Boller or Troy Smith is likely to be our starter...how is that any better than having Favre line up behind center???

Are you serious?

waste of time and money??

for Brett Favre?...someone even said that it would mean that it would shut out opportunities for other qbs to play...DUH!!! it's BRETT FAVRE!!

Im all for troy smith but...Brett Favre!!! there is no comparison. LoL You all must be off your rocker not to want Brett Favre as our QB...What has the world come to...People wanting Boller over FAVRE? i've seen it all now.

If Favre comes to our team we would be an instant superbowl contender...ARE YOU GUYS UNDERSTANDING THAT??

Brett Favre is old! he will probably retire next season anyway. He would be murdered behind our young oline, He get's like 12 mil a season(I think) Can we even afford that?

I think Green Bay will have little choice but to let Favre go - one way or another. They can't enter the regular season with him as a "backup." It would be far too disruptive, and the fans would call his name the first time Rodgers struggles. If they really want to move on, Favre can't be in Green Bay at all. He is holding all the cards. If the Packers were smart, they would release him now - especially since Favre can effectively torpedo any trade he doesn't like.

And I know corporate-speak and BS when I hear it. I don't believe much of what the Packers have to say about how this went down.

Don't get me wrong: I don't want Favre in Baltimore, but he deserves better than this. From where I sit, the Packers are looking pretty shabby right now.
