I love KORN waaaaay more than Bizkit, but the Sanitarium cover was awesome IMO.

Wasn't much of a Fred Durst fan until I saw them live and he tried to shake the hand of all 75,000 in attendance. And I mean that literally. That guy must have been a nightmare for his security guys.

As a throwback metal head, I'd like to dedicate this one to all you rap lovers (I'm sure even Jon can embrace this one).

Ah man, I loved that performance. I'll never understand why Jon censored himself on "Right Now" though. I never get tired of that performance of "Blind" though.

Really, KoRn and Limp Bizkit?

Just when I was beginning to think I had found a home in this thread...
[/quote]

There's absolutely nothing wrong with koRn.

Hey! I just said I don't like 'em. I'm not going to turn this into another It's Always Sunny... debacles. B)

What are they, alternative rock/metal? Or are they considered part of this nu metal thing now?

They were once the pioneers of nu-metal, however I wouldn't consider them quite nu-metal anymore. You could call them more alternative metal.

Yeah, there you go. I never really got the whole nu-metal thing. Didn't like the musicianship or the feeling of forced creativity which eventually got copied to death.

Since this thread is about Metallica though, I guess I could say the same about them. Especially the copied to death part.

Uh yeah I listen to Metallica, I was just saying I didn't like koRn or Limp Bizkit. But in the same respect, if I can find the same issue with Metallica maybe I shouldn't be too hard on those two. Get it?

I feel the same way.

Just because those terrible bands(?)(kinda metal boy bands) covered Metallica doesn't mean they are nearly as creative or talented as Metallica, and probably shouldn't be uttered in the same breath.
Those bands are way over produced, and the angst is way over the top to the point of being immature whining (and don't make any jokes that's what I'm doing, I see that coming a mile away).
Metallica was a bit more subtle and far more creative than any of the nonsense we hear today.
Anyway, I'm done with that.

Anyone seen the Some Kind of Monster documentary, it's hilarious...

Well I wouldn't exactly go as far as to say they can't be mentioned in the same breath. KoRn and Bizkit I'm sure are good in certain respects, but I'm not exactly here to make gods out of Metallica. They haven't really released anything beyond mediocre in a long time (though I do like some of the Load/Re-Load songs). There's been a dropoff that's been less than godly, to say the least.

Metal Boy Bands? Are you freakin' serious? Limp Bizkit is terrible, and never was and never will be metal. But to call koRn a "metal boy band" is both angering to me and laughable. Angst was "way over the top to the point of being immature whining". Sorry, but at the time that WAS the in-thing for the new and flourishing "nu-metal" genre. Too bad koRn has stood the test of time and churned out fantastic songs. Overproduced, I think not. I've seen them live and they are top-notch live. Not as perfect as on their albums, but still fantastic.

Is koRn as good as Metallica, hell no. Metallica is legendary and well-known by nearly everyone. However, LB is trash... anyone who names an album "Gold Cobra" is trash.

Wow, I didn't even realize you didn't like Limp Bizkit. You must've hated me for lumping them together in that old post...

Okay, okay, anyone have a favorite Metallica album?

After watching the koRn cover of one again, I felt the need to share this 'Tallica cover by another favorite band of mine that completely slipped my mind earlier:

Two for one! Their amazing cover of, since we were also talking about them, "Hallowed Be Thy Name":

I started playing bass because of Steve Harris. Used to know dozens of Metallica and Maiden songs. Seen Maiden 5 or 6 times in conert, starting with the Powerslave tour. Seen Metallica 3 or 4 times. Wardy, I believe I told you this before, first saw them in '86, I believe it was, on the Master of Puppets tour with Cliff Burton. They opened for Ozzie at the Spectrum, amazing show.

Fav Metallica is either Lightning or Injustice.
Maiden is tough decision, but I believe I'd have to say Powerslave.
Indeed Wardy, Hallowed is an amazing song.
Demon, those 2 versions are pretty awesome!

As much as I love, love "Powerslave" (2 Minutes to Midnight is one of my favorite IM songs), my favorite Maiden album has to be "The Number of the Beast". Can't go wrong with The Prisoner, Run to the Hills, Hallowed Be Thy Name, The Number of the Beast, and one of my personal favorites, Children of the Damned.

Yea, brutal decision!
I think they're all awesome, Iron Maiden, Killers, Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind. I just like Powerslave a little more because of Harris' work. Of course, his work on all their stuff is amazing, I just like Powerslave the most. Seventh Son has some amazing bass also.
