[Video] .com Exclusive: Mailbag: Would Ravens Sign Asomugha?

118 posts in this topic

Let coaches coach, players play, owners own, fans fan, loser lose, winners win, also-ran also, and close the books on what the team should do. You guys don't play the game and have never at this level. I own a small business and can't even begin to second guess coaches and players who do this each day. Its amazing how fans get on here and suggest such craziness. If you guys were so good at this, call Mel Kiper and the others and get paid. You'r wasting your time here, as this is wasting space and time. I read it and write just for fun, as its a joke reading some of your comments. These players are very, very good at what they do, and to have some fans with no experience at this level is interesting. No matter if you played college or NFL, you don't play now. Which means your element of experience is not the same. I'll give some respect to an NFL player who chimes in on here, but anyone below, your comments are just relative and irrelevant as anyone else. So we all can post comments, but the intent is to do so with common sense if you have not played at NFL level, and stop taking personal attacks on players. I don't have an issue with any player or coach, I support the team wholey. But I do take pride in getting on loser fans that call out our players, and will keep it clean while doing so.

dont go and spend money on someone so expensive when that position isnt even our weakest. CB is not a weak position as commonly misconceived, O-line is weakest. Figure out how to get Gaither back and move Yanda back to G. SAVE the MULA!

Can any one here tell me how much money the Ravens have in the 2011 budget? Of cousre not, so do not try to tell me they can not afford Asomogha. They may decide he is not worth his asking price, but that does not mean they can not afford it.

to jellis923. It makes a big difference. I dont see Jason Garrent blowing ppl away with his great offense. So why would that be such a burn? Looks like we did ourselves a favor by losing Garret and getting Harbaugh. And yeah I would like to have Dez Bryant but i dont think we would have gotten Bolden if we had Bryant. so maybe you should try to use a little of that intellence and knowledge you seem to think i lack.

T.O. said it way back on this topic, but I don't understand why there isn't more talk about cutting Foxworth to free cap space. He's WAY over paid. McGehee is also going to be a casualty (but we'll have to spend to either retain McClain or get someone else, cause Ray can't do everything). Honestly, Gregg could be in that group as well.

Whether that leaves enough to get a big free like Nnamdi, I don't know. But it would be in our interest to free up cash where we can, because all of the areas of our team that need to be shored up won't be addressed in the draft.

What we need to do is make a massive attempt to sign him..we need a proven stud shutdown corner to compete...no question about that. Obviously drafting someone is vital as well. Draft needs not only include a young up and comer cornerback but a wide reciever that is a deep threat that goes up for the ball well with great hands, not just a speedster...we need to arm Flacco's great deep ball. Linebacker is a need...Ray is aging, and the others are injury prone and only above average at best. Pass rush is huge as well...OLB opposite of Sugggs is very important. Resign Gaither..his loss was bigger than most people think and after being shocked by being put on IR he should be hungry. The CBA will come to a resolution in my mind and with the talent we already have and SMART free agent moves and our typical good draft should have us in another great position next season...In the meantime...GOOOOO PACKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Harm City ...

If you want to know what money is committed, how many of our key players aren't under contract and will require us to spend to retain as well as existing players and how much could be saved if they were released, this is the best I've seen on the topic.

http://www.ravens24x7.com/columns/The-Money-Clip-Baltimore-Ravens-Salary-Cap-Analysis/The-Baltimore-Ravens-Free-Agency-Primer

What makes it very hard to predict is that there is no CBA. We don't know what the rules are regarding who is restricted and who is not and if there will still be a salary cap and what that cap is.

Ok these two guys make me mad, as do everyone of the ravens fans who thinks you can find talent in 3rd round 4th rd 5th rd and so on players is just ignorant. You think David reed could be or should be out on our feild no no. These guys say oh you can find young talent like the steelers and say david reed is comparable to mike wallace and emmanuel sanders. David reed was drafted the 5th round both wallace and sanders were drafted 3rd round thats a big difference in talent range i see redd doing nothing in the future. Next i am sick of our great front office doing nothing about our secondary. In my eyes to find a talented corner you have to atleast draft the 3rd round. Our only corner drafted in the third round was lardarius webb and josh wilson was in the second round i beleive. Chris carr wasnt even drafted he was like a practice squad add on who developed because the ravens needed it badly. And to think dominique Foxworth is gettin pid 30 million dollars of valuable free agent money is depressing. Ozzies way of getting players from the draft and building from within is old as ancient dirt. mark my words the ravens will not win a superbowl unless they invest in some worthy free agents. Hers what i think.
Ok so nnamdi will be alot of money there are other options out there though, Jonathon Joseph, Brent Grimes, Champ Bailey, Brandon Carr. We need ton get a good corner every analyst agrees ozzie just gets worthless draft picks we never use we also need to draft a first round corner our secondary is garbage we also need to resign josh wilson he held it together this year. Secondly we should look to sign mike simswalker. He is a great player that is looking for a cozy home where he can help get to the superbowl thats the ravens, he is coming off abad season so he might be cheap so he could definetly help our receiving corps as a deepthreat he wont get resigned byjax. We need to changeup our offseason plan have sum guts and spend some$. Yea we dont have a unlimited credit card but its not like were dirt poor either, we cant just rely on draft picks iunless we had multiple first rd picks. We need free agents corner go

That is a good article. I always wonder what the Cap hit would be on some player. If we were to say Cut foxy, it should be after June 1st. Before the first it would be too pricey for 2011. So even if you were to sign Aso, you couldn't realistically do it without cutting Foxy after the first of June. But by that time, Aso is long gone.

Does anyone else see the dominating potentila of sims-walker in purplenblack next season? He had 900yds the year before and even this year had like 3 or 4 100yd games he has the potential the jaguars just dont use him. He had a bad season last year and if he will be expecting alot of money teams will look at his stats and say NO. So hopefully ozzie sees him out there for a cheap pickup, he could be our deepthreat hes young and a great receiver. Homnestly i never liked houshmanzadeh he played great in seattle awesome in cincy but he is so selfish and does do much in baltimore, its like he doesnt fit in right Mason is declining year after byear hes not the tank he once was hes still got skills but i wouldnt be surprised if the ravens really stepped up there game this offseason and went after someone like Sims-walker jacoby jones or aromoshodu (all great young speedy receivers )

I don't know. I'm sort of a flip-flopper on him, much like how his play is. There is a reason Jacksonsville doesn't want to bring him back. But he will be better if he doesn't need to be the #1 guy. But for the Ravens, inconsistency is the last thing we need, we have to many of those guys.

why wld he take a pay cut to play for a winning team (ravens) when he cant get paid major money with a winning team (eagles, jets)? plus if he gona take a pay cut he gona play with the packers with woodson bc thats the top places he stressed interest in

Yea if any star is willing to take a pay cut, they'd probably end up with the Jets. The reputation that the Jets have with their players is league wide. Come to the Jets and have fun.

plus we dont need to dish out alot of money to get nnamdi and end up struggling not only to resign ngata and alot of players this year, but flacco and rice are up for restructured contracts...we can get someone like bailey who is equally as good but if we get him i wld still sign a cb in the first so champ can develop him...or we can just go get josesph or grimes who wld be just as effective for our team

i tell you what though...hankerson is looking really good in this senior bowl...if we get a wr i want it to be him or young..how many ppl wish we had kept barnes? i was so mad when we let him good...he was an excellent pass rusher and showed it with the chargers then we wldnt be having this convo bout needing a pass rusher

heres another question. The new york giants are looking to bring back plaxico burress this year. If they do that im pretty sure mario manningham will test free agency, he is comin off a solid season and s proven toi be a top ytoung wideout no matter if hes 1st second or third string. Do u think the ravens would woulld be a good fit for him i just think someone like him or jacoby jones, devin aromoshodu who show that they are fast and can put up no1 numbers if they get the ballwould be a good fit for the ravens wzt does evry1 think?

Let Haloti go and allow Cody to take his place. Cut Foxworth. Sign TWO top Corner backs. Move Oher back to right tackle. Pick up a solid Left tackle. Webb is not very good since the injury. He might need to be replaced as well. The team was 12-4 and at the end of the games in the 4th quarter it was the secondary that could not hold up.

The secondary couldn't hold up because they were on the field the entire second half. Our offense lost those games. We need an offensive line. Haloti Ngata is the best defensive player on our team.

Suggs is better. Corner backs lose any capability of elite talent when they have a serious knee injury. Foxworth was a MOP when he played and will be even worse when he comes back from a injury. I am sick of all the HYPE about webb being GOOD. He was a solid player before he got hurt. He is a SS anyways not a CB. Webb LOST the game vs the Steelers. He could not get it done on the biggest play of the game. Let him be the punt and kick returner. They need a shut down corner back. Someone that can actually guard a Roddy White Talent. There is no way the Ravens can resign Haloti he is going to get Albert Haynesworth type money. They have to let him go there is no way they can afford to keep him.

We really don't need that much for defense. A shut down corner is REALLY nice to have though lol and someone to help Suggs rush the passer or help stop the run?! Our defense with it's knowledge, work ethic, and the new guys with their enthusiasm and speed...we'd be unstoppable. Then, on offense, it's hard to believe we'd need a receiver, but I guess we do, even though all of our receiving core has over 900 catches or something like that. But get Gaither back and/or fix the running game...keep special teams the same as they are now. We'd have an undefeated season. I think it'll be next season! Common Ozzie, Steve, and Harbaugh! We got enough to easily get the rest and be the right team to get the job done! Let's do it!

What we need most is a left tackle so we can sustain our running game and keep the defense rested and therefore more effective. Our second need is a blocking FB(ala Lorenzo Neal) ,that can free up LeRon McClain to run more.Keep Willis McGahee. He still has some "ghost in his heels". The Three Headed Monster can keep drives alive and can be unstoppable with Oher at RT. What the hell, give Gaither an incentive laden contract at LT.Another pass rusher would be nice.Draft a deep threat receiver but if the running game gets going again ,we really don't need a deep threat that bad.We need to grind up the clock and play ball control. Brady and Peyton or Big Ben can't hurt you if they don't have the ball.Think about sub-ing for Birk and Ray Lewis in spot situations. Also draft their eventual replacements.Teach Harbs not to waste timeouts and about offensive strategy.

Haloti is the future for the ravens d and the best defensive lineman in the game the dumbest thing we could due is let him leave, if u havent noticed that was the titans biggest mistake and look at them now
