.com Exclusive: Mailbag: Would Ravens Sign Asomugha?

118 posts in this topic

@ncheel2, <deleted> Asomugha is on the same level as Foxworth and Wilson, are your crazy. hes like the best corner in the league. the guy was only throw to 27 time only aloud 10 catches and no touchdowns. you need to look up more film of him yourself before you say crazy things like that.

and @ PuRock, i feel what you sayin but at the sametime its a busniess and they cant worry about feelings, its about making the team better and winning first and for most. so you franchise him and get a deal done later.

Our team is very good about taking care of their best players. They just don't snatch up big names or let them go like dust in the wind. They have a respectful franchise when it comes to that. The Ravens Organization knows the best way to draft young guys and keep them around when they become studs is to set the precedence. If you don't, then you're just another Redskins/Raiders type organization.

If you franchise tag him and you put off the deal for another year. There might not be a deal. Its a business, but it can still be a smart business.

Like Ozzie said...."three turnovers in the third quarter" and we are playing at home against the Jets, probably going to Dallas. We scored 3pts in the second half. None of that was cause of our DB's, and neither were the other losses during the season. We have to fix what is broke, and like Bisciotti said, our run game and total offense needs to improve, and the stats support it.

@PuRock, they franchised Suggs for like 3 years straight before he got the big deal so its not like they wont take care of him, and its not every day your have a talent like Asomughain a free agent, so its nothing wrong with looking at the guy. the league has changed and you need a shut down corner with the way the rules have change. its probably the second most important position now since all the rule changes. you can do so much more on defense when you have a guy like that.

And we were toeing the line with Suggs. He was about ready to bail and go to Arizona. Luckily we gave him a deal he couldn't refuse. He was extremely frustrated with the Franchise Tag.

First boybeamen1180, <deleted> When you really compare stats and you look at the whole picture, and the picture of Asomgha is that although he doesn't get thrown at much, when they do throw there they make big plays on him. The bottom line is that Foxworth is a solid corner, and in 2009, teams did not throw his way much either and knows the game. It is unfortunate he had the ACL this year, but he'll be back strong. I like Carr and Wilson, and role that Webb plays. I still think that fans are too tough on players, and this is normally a "low self-esteem" issue from the person who calls out the player. So I'm not second-guessing the coaches and players, as I cannot play the game nor coach one. I think we should keep this in perspective when we put these crazy comments in the site. I'd put the corners on this team against any passing QB and receivers. This year the team passing defense was rated 11 and 2009 they were rated 7th in the league, I would certainly say that Foxworth had something to do with less yardage in 2009, along with some injuries on the team also. No. Why would we sign Nnamdi? There is no reason...

He's getting older, and will demand TONS of money. Money we could use elsewhere, like another pass rusher to compliment Suggs. Why would we need an old-overpaid corner when we have two 25 year old solid corners in Webb and Wilson?

He'd kill our cap room...the same cap room we need to fill more important gaps in our team.

Well said, I'd rather pick up 5 guys in free agency for the price of Aso.

why does everyone think hes gonna be a lot of money? the guy played with oakland, yeah he demanded lots of money from them. but he just my take a pay cut to be with a winning team. there are players out there like that. patriots have been known to bring in players that should, could, and would make a lot of money if they were on another team but since they wanted to win they all took pay cuts so they could win some super bowls.

Even if he is willing to take a pay cut he's already expressed interest in wanting to play for the Packers or Jets. Aso and Woodson are really close friends. Our puzzle piece just doesn't fit because either a) he'll demand more than what we'll pay (right player, right price) or B) he'll take a pay cut and play somewhere he really wants to go (Jets or Packers).

well will just have to see what happens cause i dont see him going to the jets. they already have 3 great corners. and i didnt hear anything about him wanting to go to green bay. i respect your opinion on this topic though. much respect to you. but whatever happens i can tell we both just want our team to be much better. if they can get a great corner out of the draft ill be happy just the same. but i still like Asomugha...lol. but its all good though.

According to former Raiders beat writer David White (now with the San Francisco Chronicle), Asomugha has long wanted to play for a proven winner, and his next home will likely come down to two locales: Green Bay and New York. The main motivating factor for a move to the Packers is Asomugha’s close friendship with standout cornerback Charles Woodson, and while it would seem that there wouldn’t be much in the way of space for him with the Jets, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them unload another player or two to make room for Asomugha next season. My link

Ryan is waaaaaaaaaaay off. You're talking the top 1 or 2 corner in the league in the area of greatest need. They don't go after free agents? Boldin, Stallworth, Housh... Look at the excessive money they threw at Foxworth, Washington and Hamlin O is not out of possibility.
Most offensively, you begin your free agent needs with Billy Cundiff! Really? You got Ngata and so many other FAs and you start with Billy? Cmon man.
Oh, Carr is a good nickel, but he is not a great corner. He's not even the best corner on the team.

Well in fairness we got most of those guys at great prices relative to their value. Except for Foxy, not sure what the deal with that was. Cundiff's deal was easy because we had a price, he wanted to stay in Baltimore, real quick deal. Ngata's will take time.

Raven's have never been ones to go after the big names during the free agency period. Boldin was a trade. Housh we signed for the vet minimum. Stallworth just wanted to get another chance.

I'll agree with that. The media is funny.

On Plex, John gave his PC answer and the media outlets took it and ran with it. Some reporter asked John during a presser if they would be taking a look at Burress and John gave his normal PC answer and said something like he's "never met" Burress but that the Ravens would "consider anybody." But you could ask him about Lewis's grandmother and he'd give the same answer. The media is so stupid sometimes.

Don't get me wrong, I love Aso and would be estatic if he came here. But from everything I've read and heard, our puzzle piece just doesn't fit correctly in this one.

After hearing that, (The RAVENS know what they have and know what they are working with), im feeling a little more confident and excited. Even though Cam is still here. I guess they put it into perspective for me. Im feeling good about our secondary, we just need another Pass rusher, LT, and put Oher back in his natural spot(not the blindside, the right side).
I really hope Titus is avalible when our draft pick come up, i will get chills if we get him. Ive never really watched the Draft before but you can bet your bottom dollar i will be this yr. FO SHO FO SHO YO

Namdi is just gonna want too much money and this team doesnt go out and get guys like that. Foxworth is coming back and we still have Wilson,Carr and Webb. Hopefully we do get one of these young cb because this draft is full of them. Just not Namdi. A fast wr is also needed because the Ravens have good WR but there all kinda the same mold of wr and we are in need of someone explosive. CB, WR, G, DE/LB and maybe a Good young T so we can put Yanda back at G.
