Why Are The Steelers So Good Consistently?

65 posts in this topic

i thought this was intersting.

Rich Eisen of NFL Network asked Rod Woodson... "Why are the Steeler so good consistently? When other teams strive for that consistency or culture change and just can't do it?"

Rod's reasons were:

1. it starts in the front office and the way they approach things and how it trickles down to the players

2. they keep a few leaders around in the lockeroom

3. every year they have great teachers as coaches

4. they are a well coached team year in and year out going back to Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher and now Mike Tomlin, all of the assistants....they teach these guys well and they buy into what they are selling yearly

5. they may have new face in different places (positions) but they have a standard for it (position)

6. if you going to step on the field you better play good football or you won't be in Pittsburg too long

There aren't really any pearls of wisdom there that don't apply to most teams (including ours) I don't think there is a real formula, the Steelers are just innately lucky.

Agreed.....nothing outside the box tha makes you go "oh wow, that's what they do".

They have good talent in key places and just seem to make the big play when it matters most.

8) Because the Rooney family sold their soul to the devil. Who has promised them to look like angels in the eyes of others. But their souls burn with dark passion.

9) All the charges that have been swept under the table.

10) Anal probes made their FO have better football sense.

Dick LeBeau.

I seriously want to see how successful they are without him because that man is invaluable to the Steelers.

This right here.

I've always wondered how they've kept most of their coaching staff and assistants for so long, yet the Ravens coaching staff always gets picked apart. What do the Rooneys do to keep them around and not go to other teams?

The Steelers front office does a great job of holding their coaching together.

Dick LeBeau was the former head coach for the Bengals. He went down a step.

He had his shot and he didn't succeed. He actually failed pretty spectacularly. That's prolly what's keeping other teams away.

Well let's be fair here. Any person who works for Mike Brown as an owner is pretty much doomed from the beginning.

Also, just because somebody failed as a head coach for one team doesn't mean they'll fail for another. Unless that person's name is Cam.

Dickie L stays put because he likes where he is at. Its not for a lack of interest.

Nah, there's a lot more to it than just luck.

I'd add another one:

Owners and coaches do what they can to keep player egos in check. When one player thinks he has become the backbone of the team, then the team ceases to perform as a team. Rooneys learned that lesson a while ago.

Point is it's not just about talent. Ravens and alot of other NFL teams have just as much talent, in some cases probably more than the Steelers. It's about what you do with the talent that makes the difference.

My reaction is: Tell me you don't think Flemming needs to get a fricken life. That's two negative articles about the Steelers in two days. It's incredible all the venom being spewed by jealous "sports writers" (and I use that term loosely) because we're vying for another Lombardi. It's pathetic.

Also, I want you to choke yourself for posting that.

What in that article is untrue?
"What in the article is relevant" is probably a better question.

Consider down the road some hater writing some garbage like this about Ray Lewis. I think you'd be singing a different tune.

Not so much false, but I question the intent and timing of it.

Pretty much if your team is in the Superbowl everything is put under a magnifying glass, you have to take the good with the bad
