Teryl Austin - Secondary Coach

139 posts in this topic

The Baltimore Ravens have just signed Teryl Austin as our Seconday Coach. A former Def Cord of the University of FL, he should make a great addition to the Ravens Defence

I'm under the impression that we have a great set of coaches all over the board.

That is, of course, barring one Mr. Cameron.

I like the hire as well.

I love your sig picture of Ray Ray silencing the Tennessee crowd. I had that as my phone background for the longest time, one of the best pictures around of Lewis.

Look at Domonqiue Rodgers-Cromartie. Austin coached him his first two seasons in the pros and DRC looked destined for stardom. Austin was at Florida this past season(coaching up the likes of Janoris Jenkins, Ahmad Black and Will Hill) and not only does DRC regress but has players calling him out.

I like the hire; now let's see if he can help Webb take the next step in becoming the good/great corner he has shown flashes that he can become.

I hope this raises the chance of us drafting Ahmad Black. That guy could be something special.

109 tackles and 5 INT's in his senior year for an SS? That's just insane.

I guess it was an OK signing, but my top wish was to bring back Chris McAlister and have him do it.

C-Mac is gone my friend. Time to get past the grieving stage. It's lasted too long.

What no Goose? Would be a great mentor for Cody.

Went to the Super Bowl with the Seahawks in '05 and Cardinals in '08.

Lost to the Steelers both times. I bet he really hates them.

Seems like a perfect fit for the Ravens!

Austin during the interview, "I hate the Steelers"

Harbaugh, "you're hired!"

I seriously think it's hilarious that so many people we've acquired (players and coaches) have ties to the Seattle Seahawks. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing?

Well the only one guaranteed to be back is Redding. We already got rid of Zorn.

In his 7 years of NFL DB coaching, he managed to get his backs into position to intercept 114 balls, while at the same time, here in Baltimore during the same time period our secondary had 150. Of course Ed Reed was the leader of ints. for multiple years

and has anyone noticed how bad trufant fell off when he left?

Good statistics.

I didn't even think Trufant. Austin is truly a difference-maker as a coach. Not that he couldn't work wonders with the CBs already on the roster, imagine if the Ravens drafted someone like Brandon Harris or Aaron Williams.

Oh lord, not another coach that can't beat the Steelers. I know im being a pest with the post, just really don't like our direction. Starting with the head coach ending somewhere between Kruger, Gooden, Zibby, Haruki,Pitta, Johnson,Cousins, Chester.

I know you dislike Harbaugh and can understand you taking issue with most of those players but what's wrong with Pitta? With all the receiving options and Dickson being faster, he wasn't going to get much PT this season. The guy has a good amount of potential though.

Considering JJ and Chester were here before Harbaugh got here I don't know how you can hold him to that. Besides JJ is a bad pass rusher, but he's about as good as you can ask an OLB to be in everything else.

Nakamura should never see PT on defense, but we got a STs demon in the 6th round...not exactly a bad pick.

I don't see how Z is a bad pick either, when he's played on defense he's played well.

Pitta was just drafted this year as the 3rd string TE, did you really expect 700 yards out of him?

i dont care where they come from as long as they come an get the job done.

Couldn't agree more... I mean, Jon Beason was on a horrendous Carolina team, but I'd take him in a heartbeat.

I'm looking forward to our defense. Harris and Williams would be our best bets. Everybody talking about Asomugha made me so mad. We already spent enough money last season. I'd kinda like to keep some of our defensive players. Especially Wilson. I think with Austin coaching the secondary, Webb could improve. And Wilson could turn into a shut-down corner. And he may also show Fabian that you can play the position without having to get burned. Coaches that hate the Steelers are good. But they need to be able to beat them and the other teams on our schedule. I think if we draft a good CB and maybe Cameron Heyward, we'd be golden. I'm not sure that would be possible though. From what I saw Heyward is a flatout beast. Might be hard to get him. As for this decision, I think it's the best coaching decision of the offseason so far...
