This draft class of linebackers are full of outside linebackers. This is a becoming a passing league so teams need pass rushers. Alot of teams are switching more to the 3-4 defence. I say get the best guy available even if it's a OLB or lingbacker at all. We need to keep getting younger at some point. I beleave we will keep two of the three ILBs next too Ray Lewis. Oh yah when is Ayanbedejo going to play some snaps on D?

Never. I doubt he returns next season.

I would not expect to see another Ray Lewis for another decade or more, of course the game will continue to change, it could turn back into a defensive game rather that an offensive game.
But as Berad said, Ray is one of a kind, I wouldn't expect to find anything close to him for quite some time, yet it could happen because of his influence, but to be as true as Ray, it most likely could only me attempted to be emulated because it takes a certain personality to bring back the form of Ray, and may never happen again.

It seems this team will sign Ngata to a big contract and build the team around him.

Kindle kind of had his shot, but he seems to have blown it.
He might be back, hopefully this season, but you never know. He wouldn't have taken over for Ray, but to expect anyone to, is crazy.

i dont think there will ever be another ray lewis there isnt one player in this league right now that is like him, skill wise you could say Willis in San Fran is close but to have the fire and complete committment to everything he has.. thats near impossible i believe. I hope we draft someone soon this or next year... i liked laurinits but he is with the rams. I dont know if there is a guy in the draft worth taking that could come in and beat out one of the three we have competing next to ray? any ideas?

The odds of finding another Ray Lewis are slim and none really. Still, we need to find "that guy" and get him set to learn and absorb Ray's knowledge, work ethic and passion. The window for Ray to play a mentor role is closing (hopefully not for awhile but, season 15 and all).

1st of all I believe Ed Reed has at least four more years in him. I know he's in a personal crisis, but he loves football too much to be quitting already. 2nd of all I think we should start looking at 2 new ILB, since none of the ILB's we have, in my opinion, qualify. Get one rookie and maybe get a veteran aside him to kinda guide him around.

I din't think Ruud is an option. 3-4 teams outnumber 4-3 teams in the league right now but some 4-3 squad will want Ruud.

Jameel was just starting to play good football late in the season; if he's brought back, it should be at ILB.

Vontaze Berfect? I know he has a bad temper but perhaps Ray Ray could set him straight, and also our coaches will not take any s***. for example when Ellerbe had that pick 6 in the pre season and paused before entering the end zone to taunt the people chasing him he was in the dog house and acted well for the rest of the season ( with the exclusion of a couple stupid penalties)

A player I really like is Herzlich out of Boston. He does have health issues with his rare form of cancer that he beat but he has play like a Raven written all over him. He was a top 10 talent before he was diagnosed and there are reports he could be a second round pick. If he slips up we should snag him.

Burfict is a junior this season and may not even declare in 2012. The guy is very talented but he's very immature and too often very reckless. Those aren't traits Ray is just going to talk out of him. It'd be up to Burfict to receive the good advice and change his ways but I don't think it'll happen.

Regardless, if the Ravens continue to play like they have the past three seasons, they may not even get at shot at Burfict in 2012 or 2013.

The two penalties and loafing on Jason Snelling's TD in ATL really hurt Ellerbe. He still shouldn't have been inactive for so long though.

well I'm saying like, if you're an immature thug in College, then you get drafted by the Ravens and you meet Ray Lewis a Hall of Fame ILB and he tells you to be a man and stop being so foolish. I don't see how you couldn't take a hard long look at yourself and make an effort to change your ways.

What stopped Gaither and Ellerbe from doing it?

Unfortunately I don't believe we will have the luxury of drafting a linebacker to play next to Lewis and eventually replace him. There is just so many needs on this team.

For the time being though, I think outside of free agents and undrafted free agents, Our best bet is Ellerbe. I really liked what he brought to the table in 2009 and was upset he spent most of the season in the dog house.

Ellerbe is hardly a thug, he just had an immature lapse and did one taunt other than that he's been perfectly fine attitude wise. Gaither is hardly a thug either he's just a whiner

I don't like the "thug" label period but Ellerbe has had a run-in with the law before. Link

I like him as a player and felt he should have played more but the "shoryuken" celebration he did after touching Brees for a sack and motioning for Pittsburgh's crowd to be quiet after shutting down a Wallace reverse during the play-off game are just signs he needs to grow up.

My point is, after he got a big-head in camp and lost his job to Jameel, how did the things Ray preaches and exemplifies not get through to him and stop him from doing what he did against the Rams or hurting the team three times against the Falcons?

The same applies to Gaither with his immaturity. The story is Zeus was brought in to talk to him but didn't get through and their meeting got heated.

Ray is the man but there's no guarantee he'd change someone like Burfict, or any troubled player the Ravens bring in.

Yes it is teh SAM from Boston.

Suggs celebrates all the time when he makes a play. Ray did in his time also. To bench a guy because of that is obsurd. Im sure there is something else that ticked Harbaugh off about Ellerbe.

Also who is Zeus that you are talking about? Did Ray Lewis try to talk to Gaither then it got heated? Where did you hear this?

Ellerbe wasn't benched just because of the celebration. He was active from the 1st to the 7th game, in-active against the Dolphins and then active for the fateful Falcons game where he screwed up at least three times.

Zeus is Orlando Brown's nickname. It's a rumor several hosts on The Fan have echoed.

Yea but McClain started over Ellerbe in those first 7 games. Granted he did screw up at ATL but other then that game he is clearly better then McClain and Gooden.

Also I totally forgot about Zeus, I wonder why they brought him in to speak to Gaither. Zeus has been a headcase himself.

I thought Jameel did a pretty good job this year as an inside linebacker. Keep in mind this was his first full season at the position where he got significant snaps. He was behind Gooden and Ellerbe in '09 and in '08 he was still at OLB. At Syracuse, he was a defensive end. McClain will be starting inside beside Ray next year unless we do somehow find a stud to replace him, and in my opinion Jameel has earned it.

I agree Ellerbe is better and again, he should have played more but a second-year UDFA shouldn't have done some of things he did and the coaches sent a message. The length of that message was too long but they made their decision.

Brown having a couple issues meant he was the perfect person to talk to Gaither.

It's up in the air at the moment. I'm still hoping that Ellerbe can be that guy though

Ellerbe is a beast, i hope he is out of the dog house with Harb., we all seen what he can do, i personally think our Defense would have been better if he started all 16 games, hes all over the ball all the time. Kinda reminds me of Ray, but no one can really be compared to the LEWIS.
