Reed, Ngata, And Cundiff Named Ap All-pro Team

8 posts in this topic

Ed Reed named as FS, Ngata as defensive tackle, and Cundiff as a kicker. All three are also Pro Bowlers.

Season highlights:
Ed had 8 picks even after missing the first 6 games of the season, 1 short of his career high. He also had 3 multi-interception games.

Ngata had a career high 63 tackles and 5.5 sacks, and was a huge threat in the middle of the defense. He has showed why he is considered one of the best at what he does. Also broke Roethlisberger's nose in that Sunday night letdown.

Cundiff was the surprise Ravens this year with an extraordinary leg strength notching 40 touchbacks, a league high. also went 26/29 on FG, with a 90% FG percentage.

Ray also made 2nd team all pro.

*Ed Reed has 7 total All-Pro Selections now. For some perspective; Ronnie Lott had 7 total and Rod Woodson also had 7 total in his career.

*Ray has 10 total selections now (7 1st team + 3 2nd team). He now has the All-Time Record for total selections by an ILB/OLB. In addition he ties Lawrence Taylor for most selections ever for a Linebacker (OLB or ILB/MLB).

Even though Mayo had a ridiculous amount of tackles, he had 60 assisted tackles, and only 12 solo tackles more than Ray. Then combine that with the fact he didnt have any ints, and less passes defensed and then consider the doo doo state of the Patriots defense and I would have voted Ray 1st team before Mayo.

Edit- Ray had a better statistical season than Willis this year too, more tackles, more solo tackles, more Ints (Willis had none), and more passes defensed. Willis just had Ray on sacks.

Obviously all 3 are good MLBs, maybe its a bit of homerism, but Mayo was on a brutal defense, and still hardly made any impact plays and actually got stiff armed on Greene's TD sealing run when it was just Willis and Mayo on the edge and Mayo got tossed aside. Willis played with a broken hand and I commend his toughness and desire he's basically Ray Lewis lite, but I think to dethrone THE MLB in the league you have to out do him and I dont think Willis did this year (I also watched 4 Niner games this year start to finish).

As much as I fully agree with your point, I think there will always be a certain touchiness when it comes to Ravens fans categorizing someone as good (or better) as Ray.

I disagree with the Mayo selection too. He had just the 5th 60+ assist tackle season since the NFL started separating solo/assist tackles (1994).

He had 40 assists at home which in most years would pace 1st or 2nd in the league for the ENTIRE 16 games season. He also made NO big plays all season on a terrible Defense that couldn't get off the field.

Ray or Timmons would have been better choices for that spot in my opinion.

Pretty much Mayo had a worse statistical season than D'Qwell Jackson did in 2008 and played on a bad defense just like Jackson did. Jackson didn't even sniff a Pro Bowl berth let alone 1st team all Pro status.
