Espn Insiders Rank Ravens Wr Corps

19 posts in this topic

22. Baltimore Ravens

New offensive coordinator Cam Cameron should make this offensive more explosive in 2008, but a lot still depends on getting consistent quarterback play. While Derrick Mason is on the decline, Mark Clayton and Demetrius Williams are gaining steam in their development. Williams is the most explosive while Clayton is mature for a fourth-year player and has ascended rapidly. He is a dangerous possession receiver with quickness and route-running ability. Mason is a savvy, experienced veteran who is effective in the short and intermediate areas. Yamon Figurs has game-changing speed and can attack the deep vertical areas, and rookie fourth-round pick Marcus Smith is a tough possession receiver who could contribute early in his career.

thats a pretty good review coming from ESPN, but i do want to see marcus smith and what he can do

they ranked the steelers 10th in wr? i think we should have been ranked higher. then again with a disappointing year last year i'm not surprised we're so low.

Steelers got a set QB. Thats why they ranked them higher. If we had a set QB theyd put us somewhere between 13-19.

The Giants are 11th? Give me a break. They essentially have the same types of receivers we have and the only reason they get more credit is because they won the super bowl and because Tyree caught a ball on his helmet. Pretty much every team they listed after the Giants (with the exception of Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, Tennessee, and Oakland) have a better WR group on their roster than the Giants.

I was watching ESPN's 1st and 10 and they were talking about Bret Favre again. And Skip jerkface bayless brought up the idea of the packers trading favre to an AFC team and he mentioned the ravens and then goes on to say how it wouldn't be a good fit because the Ravens have terrible receivers and a terrible offense, no mention to the fact that Cam Cameron is Offensive Coordinator and Dana Jacobson foolishly agreed with him as usual. He was never a fan of Brian Billick or the Ravens but I thought he might show them a little more respect with Billick gone. He is what he is and I'm so sick of this guy but his opinion won't mean squat if the ravens offense is productive next year which I believe they will be. Before the 2006 season when they were on Cold Pizza he said the ravens would go 7-9 and we know how that turned out. He's looked foolish before and I guarantee he will look foolish again. He's also the biggest Cowboys hater, probably because they ran him out of Big D for being a jerk.

He gets what he deserves. He'll be eating his own words again this season. Im actually kinda glad he got kicked outta Dallas. :).. Makes me happier whenever I see how unhappy he is with how stuff unfolds with him.

Well if its the attention he wants I think he should slow it down a bit. Look at what he got when he tried to do it with Dallas. They kicked him out. I guess all that he'll get from ESPN is his foot being in his mouth whenever NFL teams do the opposite of what he says.

I don't think the Chargers Wideouts should've been ranked 9th.

They have a mid-to-high level starter in Chris Chambers, and a decent number 2 in Vincent Jackson, and even after that they have little quality depth. I don't know how that equals the 9th best receiveing corps.

I wouldn't have minded if the survey included TEs, because Gates is one of the best, but it doesn't. It's just WRs.

That's very fair at this point as we really have no idea how Figurs and Smith (and maybe Harper) are going to do... Mason is on the decline, but still extremely reliable; Clayton was hurt all of last year and I suspect he will return to his 2006 form; Williams also was hurt and should grow exponentially this year, so look for that ranking to change ;)

WRONG! Burress is, as of now, better than any WR we have by far. Don't let your hometown bias cloud your eyes.

Yeah, Plax is a stud.

He played more games than he participated in practices last year.

All I know is when we play the steal hers they're receivers wont count 4 $**t against our beast of a defense, and their depth in the secondary is quite fragile so our rec. corps will look even better. Thats what I think about their 10th ranked rec. corps. :P

our recieving core can/has the ability to be one of the NFL's Top Recieveing Cores in the entire League, they may not be that of the Number one spot but they could/should rank up there in the top 10 or even the Top 5. This Team has the Players and the Talent to Do Great things not only on the defensive side of the football but also on the offensive side as well.

If you Remember last season admist all the Quarterback Changing and rotation, One Reciever Proved his worth time and time again, it didnt matter whom was under center, if the ball was thrown his way, he went and got it. I beleive that all we need to get this offense going is that of a stable Quarterback, one whom is young, Athletic, Talented, Humble, Poised, a Leader, and a Winner. If Our Recieving Core of players/guys can Maintain a Healthy outlook on the upcoming seasons, and Keep a main Stream of Tough Physical Speed and agility going for not only this season but also in the future seasons to come, Then Our Numbers on offense are surely going to Increase for sure, its just basic logic and common sense. Hard Work and Dedication and constant Persistance pays off in the end when your Performance on the field displays everything you've learned /continued to learn.

You Heard from the players themselves, most notably being that of the Offensive players (by which i mean our recivers) that things are going really well for all and that things are starting to click and everyone is geling to together as a complete offense, and our receivers are really starting to get a firm grasp on what Cameron is trying to do with this Offense.

And speaking of Cameron, Seeing how he seems to be a Offensive minded type guy and seeing how where ever he's gone, didnt matter who or where it was, He turned/molded that Offense into a High Powered, Beast of a Machine whom most recently (in 2006) was ranked (i think) as the Number 1 or number 2 offense in the NFL. So You Can bet for sure that Cameron knows what to do, and knows exactly what its going to take in order to get things onthe right path, he has said that he is finding out what everyone's strengths and weaknesses are and basically said that we are going to build our offense off of our players strengths, not weaknesses, and he said that whatever Weaknesses they do have, They will continue to Work on them and turn them into Strengths.

With Head Coach John Harbaugh's mindset/re-itteration of the weight room, and excercise program, using free weights alot more than the machines, you can bet that everyone, i mean everyone, on this team is going to be more physical, more Powerful, Faster, and all that spells out the basica fact that this Team, WILL be a Better football all-round because of it.
