Again Raiders have a dangerous weapon at FB in Marcel reece(look up his numbers) Raiders would use Leron MCClain at FB (blocking run downs) and as a RB( probably replace Michael Bennett) . Also he would add alot to their offense. Just say the Raiders version of wildcat. You have D MCfadden, M bush and McClain etc. Also you can move a Marcel reece or a darren Mcfadden outside before the snap and pound a defense with McClain.
That's just to much going on in the backfield. Since they have Reece, who is exremely talented, I doubt they add another guy who wants the rock. Add a pure blocking FB instead. But then again, it is the Raiders.

Marcel reece 6'3 240 is basically a WR playing FB. Reece could play as second TE or H-back in some packages. MClain would add alot to the offense. He would play Fb on the run downs. He would play in their wildcat. He would play on third down- Raiders could move McFadden outside before the snap(get him on a lB) Leaving Mcclain as single RB. They can give him the rock, they can ask him to help in pass protection . Also when raiders do that reserve with all their speed(Jacoby Ford, Dhb or louis Murphy hes a nice guy to have throwing a block .

You would be setting yourself up for disappointment if you had McClain as a single back behind an average O-line. You've been seeing too much of Tolbert in California.

Raiders oline might not have been where you would want them pass blocking but there is no doubt they were one of the best rushing teams in the league. ( 5.4 yards per carry they averaged) What McClain would be parttime FB(on the running downs and the third RB behind D MCFadden and Michael Bush. Two Rbs who history has shown are going to miss games due to injuries. He will get his chance to run the football. He could be their short yard speacialist.

That's what we were hoping for here. But every time we gave him the ball on short yardage he struggled. He's not as punishing of a runner one would think. Personally, I'd rather give the ball to Bush or Reece.

I would look for the Defensive tackle and kicker to be signed first. Then there is significant amount of chemistry with the 2 Safeties we start so I would sign the strong safety. Then later we start working on the offensive side of the ball...

I am so confused....with the naming of positions as opposed to the actual players names, I don't know who you're referring to :P

No doubt Marcel Reece did a great job with the plays he had this year. And about what you said, with McClain having a cousin in Rolando and a good relationship with Hue Jackson, I think you may be onto something. I think McClain noticed how Reece was used and may take a liking to that system, and he could very well be in silver and black next season.

I personally wouldn't be too shocked or saddened by the loss. Too much talk for my liking, and too many boneheaded plays.

What's with the Foxworth hate.

He didn't play cause he was hurt. Her performed a year ago.
Your asking us about the hate? Your the one that calling Foxy a 'her'.

Not hate. Just making a lot of money.

He's gonna make a good chunk for a CB coming off a ACL injury. We still need to resign Wilson and Carr, so if his contract isn't restructured I believe he needs to be let go. Wilson is just as good if not better than he was last year. imo

Gaither
Yanda
Cundiff
Koch
Carr or Wilson (at least one)
Landry
Jameel

Those are the main targets I would like to see back in a Ravens uni.

My theory

cut Gregg(getting older, gotta go even though I love him), McGahee(I love him also but 6.0 is way to much for a back up. Plus I really like our PS RB Steele). Cut Mason(we can sign hoosh for cheaper then 4.5 million and I think Hoosh will give us equal production), Birk(is making 3.0, if there was one person who should stay it would be him. But I would like to get younger at C.)

This gives us roughly $81.539 million cap.

Now for EFA

re-sign Cox(.330),Ellerbe(.405),Kindle(.330),Williams(.480),Talavou(.480) I think those numbers are what they would make due to the EFA rules. But no 100%.

That leads our cap to 83.564 million.

Now to RFA.

Bring back Cousins,J.McClain,Nakamura,Parmele,Zbikowski. W/ my research they should make .927 million each so that will be 4.635 million on the cap. Bringing our cap total to 88.199 million

UFA

Re-sign Bulger(back up tho god forbid Flacco gets hurt), Carr, Cundiff, Gaither, Hoosh, Koch, L.McCLain, Ngata, Wilson, Yanda.

we have 47.801 million to get those players and get our draft picks. Looking at that my guess is we dont have enough for Aso but we maybe able to squeeze something out depending on how we load the contracts.

(sorry if any calculations are off)

If I'm not mistaken, draft pick money comes from a different "pool"......

Also, in most cases, when you cut a player you will take a hit on your cap based on how their guarantee was structured, so its not as easy as 2+2=4.

I based it off of the original link. The # of the players I hypothetically cut are correct im 99% sure.

PS Id love to add Curtis Steele and McClean off of the practice squad.

I wasn't talking about the # of players cut, I was referring to the implications for those said cuts.

And, are you talking about McClellan?

Depending on when they are cut, the toll will either be taken on this year or next year. I think the day is like June 2? Either way, we may be able to trade some of them off for late round picks, and that would be better than nothing.

QB – Marc Bulger - If the Ravens can bring him back then do it. About as good of an option for a backup plan as the Ravens are going to get.
LB – Prescott Burgess - Get him signed. Will continue to develop as a LB but is also the Ravens best ST player.
CB – Chris Carr - Get him signed. Most consistent corner and needs to be kept.
OG – Chris Chester - Would provide a good solid backup option for all 3 inside o-linemen spots. Sign if price is right.
PK – Billy Cundiff - About to come off this board anyways.
OT – Jared Gaither - He needs to prove he wants to be a Raven, but if he can do that get him back and switch him and Oher back.
LS – Kevin Houser - Morgan Cox was solid. Let him go.
WR – TJ Houshmandzadeh - I like this guy, but the Ravens have more needs at this point. Sign if price is right.
P- Sam Koch - Get him signed. Great punter, underrated in my opinion.
S – Dawan Landry - I believe the Ravens will sign a safety in the draft and Zibby can take his place. If so, let him go.
RB – Le’Ron McClain - Get him signed. Trade Willis McGahee and promise him more of a role like his first 3 years.
OT – Tony Moll - Decent backup, but I see the Ravens cutting ties and going in a different direction.
DT – Haloti Ngata - Make this guy a Raven for life.
WR Donte Stallworth - If he can get healthy, I think the Ravens could keep him for a good price and should be more effective next year.
CB – Fabian Washington - Get him out of Baltimore -- Quick!
CB – Josh Wilson - Sign him so the Ravens can have four very good quality corners and then they can draft one to develop.
OG – Marshall Yanda - True definition of versaltility, get him signed.

OL - Oniel Cousins (3rd) - Cut ties.
DT - Lamar Divens (Undrafted – No Compensation) - Needs to try and keep him. I was impressed with his development.
LB - Tavares Gooden (3rd) - Cut ties, doesn't really fit the Ravens system in my opinion. Ravens should get an ILB in the draft.
LB - Jameel McClain (Undrafted – No Compensation) - Try to keep him but for a backup role.
S - Haruki Nakamura (6th) - Sign him for a good price. I like his playing style.
RB - Jalen Parmele (Undrafted – No Compensation) - Cut ties. The Ravens need a better option for a backup RB and return man.
WR - Marcus Smith (3rd) - Get him signed. Still developing as a receiver but great ST player. Try to get for low price.
S - Tom Zbikowski (3rd) - Get him signed. This guy can be a player and is a great option for a backup at both safety spots. I think he should start.

Exclusive Rights Free Agents:
"The Ravens can retain the rights to these players by tendering them with a contract of $330K, $405K or $480K, depending on the player’s length of service in the league."

LS – Morgan Cox - Make sure we keep this guy. I like him as a life time Raven.
LB – Dannell Ellerbe - Keep him only for the right price. Keep McClain and Ellerbe and get ride of TG.
LB – Sergio Kindle - Sign him to another year to see how the progresses. Worth the risk.
RB – Matt Lawrence - Let him go. Ravens could get better options.
OT – Bryan Mattison - Probably need to hang onto either Mattison or Sanders, but more than likely Sanders will be the choice.
OC – Daniel Sanders - Read above.
DT – Kelly Talavou - I liked this guy in the preseason, should be a big contributor in the future. Keep him.
CB – Carey Williams - Also liked what I saw from this guy during the preseason. Keep him as well.

Nice post. i always like when people do these kinds of posts. The only one i kinda disagree with is the Houshmandzadeh one, that is if Mason retires. i think is Mason retires, Housh becomes one of the players we should definitely resign.

I also like how you want to keep Le'ron McClain. Most people want to keep Willis and let McClain go because hes not really a "true" FB. i say we keep him and get what we can for Willis.

Now would be a good year to extend Rice's contract for 2-3 more years at a much higher salary. If we wait until the contract runs out, we may lose him to FA.

Rice would probably wait till 2012 before opening contract talks in hopes he has a big 2011 season and cashes in with a large contract.

Awesome post man, appreciate all the work. Idk if it's just me, but those salaries seem pretty low. For instance Suggs'. I thought his contract was much more lucrative than that, maybe it is just a cheaper year in his contract. I have expressed before that I want Webb and Wilson back, although I would be content with Carr instead of Wilson. I would like to have all 3 of those guys back, they each excel in their own area. Depending what happens with Mason, I wouldn't mind seeing TJ back. But I would much prefer Ozzie to make some nice WR signings in FA/trade and also the draft. Our OL starters are important to retain, and I hope Gaither can come back, healthy. I don't have very high hopes of Ellerbe coming back, but it also wouldn't surprise me much if he did come back. I would like to see at least 2 of those young LBs back, plus, hopefully, Kindle.
