I Miss Vick!

35 posts in this topic

Vick's problem is a problem with alot of NFL athletes...who you grew up with and who you hang out with...He grew up in Newport News aka "Bad News" - Vick even refered to it. What he did was wrong and all but I think he would be much better off playing football than not playing football. He was exciting to watch and I hate when Goddell takes the law into his own hands....let the legal process take its course don't ban players from the league and then find out if their innocent later...if there convicted let them do their time...dont suspend them for more games...your hurting the fans when you suspend a player also

Also on Vick...When you get to the status that he is at financially you have everyone you have ever known and then some trying to get a piece of that money...that clearly was another problem he didnt handle well...

Although he's allowed to stay in good physical shape, there's no way he can stay in "football shape" in prison -- there's no replacement for on-field conditioning, both in-game and practices.

He can do all the training reps he wants, but football conditioning is less about reps and more about actual game situations. Although practice is, in itself, simulating game situations, it's not the same when you're doing so with inmates, rather than fellow professional athletes and coaches.

Although Vick has the arm to play QB, he obviously doesn't have the vision, nor will he ever be able to develop it after his prison time is served. If he's reinstated in the league at any point after his sentence, he'll already be in his thirties. He'll be at least two years removed from the game (if not more, should he not be reinstated upon release). And he'll likely be out of a job with the Falcons, even if the Matt Ryan experiment fails.

Because of these factors, in my estimation, Vick would be better suited to play RB and be an unofficial third-string QB if he were to return to the league. Although this sounds like a generalization based on his tendency to scramble, it actually makes sense given how difficult it is to master the QB position. With the time he'll spend away from the game, it'll be difficult enough as-is for him to digest a brand-new playbook and get acclimated to the speed of the game. As a QB, the learning curve is that much steeper, and he'll have to pick things up that much faster.

BUT...as a RB, he would only have to learn blocking assignments on pass plays, and would have to learn how to find running lanes in the offensive line -- the latter of which he is already somewhat familiar with as a scrambler (albeit, unintentionally).

If Vick were to take good enough care of his body in prison, he could work to maintain the majority of the speed he displayed on-field, during his time away from the game. He wouldn't have to process nearly as much information as a RB, and he could catch on quicker with a team, since teams are always looking for a good complementary back.

I agree! There is no way Vick will come out of prison playing QB. He will definitely pick up weight in prison. Give or take "IF" he comes back he will be a RB for the NFL. I'm sure some team will sign him after he's done his term. I give him a year and he will be out before the next season starts.

I dont miss him at all. I was born and raised in Atlanta and have followed them along with the ravens for sometime now. He was exciting to watch because you never knew what he was going to do. But being a fan of the team, I know i didnt like it. It was clear he would just go out there and do whatever he felt like doing. He didnt deserve the contract he got and he doesnt deserve the press he gets. He is not even a good QB in my eyes. He is a good running back maybe, but he never produced throwing the ball, besides throwing it deep and wowing everyone even though no one caught it.

I hope he never plays again in the NFL, he thought he was above the law and everyone else throughout his hole career. He would give the fans the finger, got caught with weed in his luggage and now dog fighting. He always denied every charge he had and never took responsibility for anything. As far as I am concerned I hope the commisioner doesnt let him back in the NFL, its players like him that make the rest of the league look bad.

I forget who the Falcons were playing, but I remember a game when ESPN had a camera angle from right behind Vick as the ball was snapped on third down and the play developed - sort of like what you see on Madden. He had two receivers on crossing routes who were open. What did he do? He took off and ran the ball for a five yard gain - and the Falcons punted. This was the last year he played - not when he was a rookie.

Vick was never going to be a good passer. His value was in his legs, and even that had limited upside. If you could contain him (as the Bucs did several times), the Atlanta offense was done. Spending 2 or 3 years in prison won't help him any. Not only will he be 2 or 3 years older, he will be out of football shape and rusty. Someone will take a chance on him, but he will never be the same again.

Do I miss watching him play?

Not really. Sure, I liked watching him - but I don't exactly miss it. Not like I'll miss Ray Lewis when he moves on or retires, that's for sure.
