State of the Message Board: Moving Forward in 2011

Immediately following the Divisional Round loss to the Steelers, our [url="http://boards.baltimoreravens.com/index.php?app=forums&module=extras&section=stats&do=leaders"]Moderation Staff[/url] decided that it would be best to allow everyone to vent within the confines of the [url="http://boards.baltimoreravens.com/index.php?app=forums&module=extras&section=boardrules"]Code of Conduct[/url]. We felt that this cool-down period was necessary and healthy for all involved. Contrary to our usual policy, this resulted in very few merged threads, thereby allowing most of you to reasonably say your piece.

Now that a substantial amount of time has passed, we must return to normalcy. While we cannot (and will not) tell you what or how to think, we must return to our previous state of balance.

In essence:
[b]- Newly-created threads, starting today, [color="#008000"]will be merged[/color] if they are already similar or identical to other created topics
- We will return to the level of enforcement of the [/b][url="http://boards.baltimoreravens.com/index.php?app=forums&module=extras&section=boardrules"][b]Code of Conduct[/b][/url][b] as seen prior to the Divisional Round; bottom line, [color="#0000ff"]if you break a rule, you'll get a warning
[/color]- Our [color="#ff0000"]ZERO TOLERANCE[/color] policy on [color="#ff0000"]personal attacks, smack talk, and trolling behavior [/color]remains in place

With this approach, we hope the healing process will begin as new conversations are fostered. As always, you are entitled to your opinion. However, [b]under [u]no[/u] circumstance[/b] should your posts violate the basic, common-sense rules outlined in the [url="http://boards.baltimoreravens.com/index.php?app=forums&module=extras&section=boardrules"]Code of Conduct[/url]. Not sure if you're joking or not, but it's nice to have respectful fans of other teams on this site, in fact, it's one of the highlights of having such a great forum.
And most of all, don't include thewarden86 in that statement, he's one of the more sane posters on this site (with the exception of Steeler week) even though he's a Steelers fan, or as some like to say, simply misguided.

The ones who post here often have been around forever and are beyond respectful. It is always good to have another viewpoint around here. I like that fans from other teams feel comfortable enough here to converse about football. The mods take care of the actual trolls in short order so I don't see a problem.

I concur...let the [b]respectful[/b] steeler posters and others stay (especially that warden fella, he's pretty cool and has "earned some latitude", I'm told) Continue to boot the trolls though...like flies around you know what, I've got no use for 'em.

i dont disagree that some of them r respectful, although im not sure a 6 superbowl steeler sig on a ravens forum is respectful, i just dont like seeing that garbage on my beloved teams forum, call me a homer

I understand, but it's not as though he uses it as an "IN YOUR FACE" every time he posts. If he was a troll and never offered insightful opinions, then I'd completely agree, but he, and the various other posters we have on here that aren't Ravens fans, are rarely (if ever) disrespectful.

None of our regulars bother me at all. In fact, I think they offer a respectful opinion to the other side which I appreciate. I often look for them to see their take on a situation. What I don't care for are the trolls that come out of the woodwork. If we're honest with ourselves they're from more than one team during the span of a season. However, it was pretty bad after last weekend’s loss. I'm going to guess what makes it more in our posters faces is the fact that Steelers fans are welcome to post here, where as we are very unwelcome there. To that I offer you this; it's just a state of class. It speaks to who the Raven's are and to the board that respectful opposing views are welcome. To the others? Just don't feed the trolls

To the mods, thanks for sweeping the trolls back under their bridges. I'm sure it gets old after a while.

Because your a newbie. Peruse the forum, make some posts in EXISTING threads. Get a feel for how things work around here. We aren't big fans of having a thousand new topics started about the same thing.
