Defense Theory

John Harbaugh mentioned earlier that the defense does not take the name of the coordinator. I personally was use to calling the defense by the name of the Coordinator running the plays. Since the induction of Chuck Pagano Harbs said that "this isn't a Rex Ryan Defense or Greg Mattison defense but it is a Raven Defense."
Now I'm changing my perception of this defense because I was so use to the other way.

I thought we were going to discuss different defensive strategies, such as cover 3 zone, Tampa 2 zone, cover 2, bump and run. What makes them successful? Why do they fail? Gap assignments and different ways defensive linemen are instructed to play by their defensive coordinator in the A B or C gap. Do Cody/Ngata fill 3 gaps?

I don't believe that for a second.

Cody and Ngata are so big they came up with a D gap because 3 gaps just weren't enough for them.

We don't know yet. Even if he comes back though, Cody needs to be starting.

Haven't heard Gregg have any inkling of retiring. I assume he will be back, but I am sure they want Cody to be more of the man.

One of the things Chuck Mentioned was that if a Linebacker misses a tackle and a secondary defender gets beat then the usual result is a td. Having the Secondary coach who coaches up something like half the players on the field being in charge calling the defense is really the way we should have gone. I mean Nickle backs, Dime backs, Corners and Safeties amount to at-least 5-6 players on the field...
