Hall Of Fame Section

37 posts in this topic

i think we should have a section on the board where only hall of famers can post and we should have a list on here of all hall of famers. like raven07 just became the first hall of famer. we should like have an induction thing and put his name on the list................idk somthin like that.............................hall of famers need their recognition

i believe it would be a great "Team" oriented idea, one to which would encourage more and more people/fans to come on here and not only Post, but post diligantly and productively. all at the same time. like they said before, Quality over Quanity.

I'd like that except I'm concerned it would encourage quantity over quality.

Maybe intead of post count, it could be how long you've been registered?

Maybe it could be by nomination by the mods. THAT should encourage quality.

yeah that would probably be the best way to do it

i like it, should be a great way to encourage Smart postings (at least half the time) not like once in a blue monn type deal, they have to be consistant.

like the Ravens themselves....we all want to see consistancy from them, so heck, why not our posters/members? only seems right to do it that way.

Not sure about the nominations. That could create hard feelings and wind up causing problems.

Hassle #1: You know darn well people will lobby for nominations. Don't we get enough PMs already?

Hassle #2: Who votes on the nominees? The moderators? I don't really want to make those kinds of judgments. We're all biased in one way or another no matter how hard we try not to be.

Length of time might be the best way to go. Quality posters usually stick around for the long haul. Even if a few duds sneak through here and there, it's a small price to pay to avoid playing favorites.

Perhaps some combination of longevity and quantity??? We definitely need to give this some serious thought. We don't need another forum that really isn't anything different than what we have now. There's no sense in "special" members having the same discussions in the new forum as are going on in the General Discussions and we really don't need any more Off-Topic.

we really don't need any more Off-Topic.

Is this a disparaging comment towards the current Off-topic section? Because I regard that as the cream of the crop around here. Especially in the off season.

here's a thought to toss around...... dont create a whole new Section for the "Hall of Fame" posters, Just create a sticky or something in the General Discussion Part of the Forum or something like that....like those when you "Pin" something on a message board...then just have a little Speech for the intro saying "this Poster was elected into the Raven Forum Hall of Fame because such and such and so on and so forth" type deal OR you say that you dont want to deal with anymore hassle, ok well you dont really have to, all that is needed is to check up on whether the poster has been around for a while, and showed Continual rate of knowledgible Postings. its ok for them to get away from seriousness every once and a while because we all need a break sometime, but for the most part of it, knowledgible postings and longetivity would be the key.

OR you could Pin those Members Names under the Hall of Fame Status for the requirements i said above, somewhere at the top of the Forum Index.

I'll toss it around a little bit.

Whoops, it fell in the trash can. Silly me.

Honestly, the Dump thread is of limited interest beyond the few of you who keep it going. I have a pretty hard time reading it for moderating purposes. I certainly wouldn't go there voluntarily.

I think the off-topic forum definitely needs improvement - a better variety of discussions on an assortment of topics like television, music, home improvement...anything. That's what it was for, but in order to generate interesting discussions, you need people participating. So far, we haven't had it - but I get the feeling that will change once the regular season rolls around this year. I think these boards will soon have more traffic than any other Ravens site.

How come when Mods edit their posts it doesn't show up at the bottom?

Also:

You're still perfectly welcome.

I have no idea, but I like it.

I can't leave well enough alone, so I'm always editing my posts.

EDIT: no offense intended on the Dump thread. That's why I originally edited what I said. If you and the others have fun in there, I certainly have no problem with it. It's just not my cup of tea.

The Dump Thread is for anyone who has anything to say that doesn't fit into one particular topic. The only requirement is that you have to read the whole thing before posting for the first time, that way you know exactly what's going on.

Also, tea is for British people, like Dave.

Nah, just the last couple of pages, seeing as that the first page has absolutely nothing to do with the last page.

Also, tea is for British people, like Dave.

I should be noted, I really hate tea. And coffee, for that matter.

I'm not sure ANYONE could read through that mind numbing, nugget laden mess from start to finish in 1 sitting! PS I edit my post all the time because I can't spell and hate misspelled words.

I think we should make the hall of fame section the ONLY place hall of famers can go.

Yes, it certainly was meant to disparage the current Off-Topic section. When training camp starts, we're cleaning up a lot of old threads and the Dump Thread is going to be the first one to go. When the players report to camp it's time for US to up our game and come out strong. "Silliness" can take a vacation. From then on "Off-Topic" will be for discussing an actual topic, not just for general B.S. We need to show just how seriously we take our team.

I think we should make the hall of fame section the ONLY place hall of famers can go.

Good lord! If we did that the rest of the board would dissolve into drivel. We need the Hall of Famers to continue keeping standards high in all of the forums.

There's this one system on another message board where people can "applaud" or "smite" people's posts. This affects their karma level, which is posted under their username. What if this was implemented, but only the mods could do this to people? It's anonymous and would reward people who write quality posts.

I don't go there anymore. Someone made some accusations and then I got smunt about a hundred times.

No, it's smunt.

Anyway, that's why only the mods would have that power. That way, it will be an objective rating system.
