Has anyone seen Vanishing Point (1971)? I like the style of older movies but the soundtrack arrangement almost always ruins it.

I believe you are correct. I knew it was familiar but I couldn't remember. Haven't seen the original in a long time. I think it is getting rebooted.

I'm not sure if Idris Elba as Bond would work. A spin off 00 agent maybe, but there's too much history of Bond as a white guy to make it believable. You can't just change a characters race. It would be like casting Bradley Cooper as the lead in a reboot of Shaft!

I really don't see the big issue. There's plenty of "black" people in England.

Seriously though, I just think he's a really good actor and deserves a starring role in a feature movie. That's why I like him for the Bond role. IMO it has little to do with his skin color and is more about the person. Shouldn't it be that way?

I agree, Bond is a hardcore secret agent, not race-specific. Plus, the actors have changed over time anyways.

Absolutely, it was meant as a joke more than anything. Elba is a hell of an actor. I think he would make an awesome James Bond!!!

I think in this day and age a black Bond would work. It would be weird at first, but it would work.

Like in Robin Hood Men In Tights, when Robin appoints Dave Chapelle as the sheriff, the crowd is like "A Black Sheriff?" and the blind guy says, "He's Black?"

I could see how alot of people wouldnt get this. My Poor attempt at humor

Just watched 'The Hole' on Netflix. Usually not a movie worth mentioning. But the fact that Kiera Knightly flashed during the movie was an unexpected surprise (and welcomed addition to a so-so movie).

I wouldn't have any problem with recasting Shaft as white, seeing as Blaxpolitation films were written and produced by white people and did more harm than good. You can even throw in all that good stereotyping than Black Dynamite and Undercover Brother parodied. But I think a better actor than Bradley Cooper would provide a better comparison to someone with the charm and presence of Idris Elba.

Personally I think the Bond role will go to Michael Fassbender.

The Bradley Cooper comment was tongue in cheek. I'd never seriously compare him to Idris Elba! I think he'd make a great 00 agent, just not sure if casting him as Bond would work. Not that I'd have any problem with it, I'd be in the cinema to see it on day 1 just as I was for Skyfall!
