Johnny Depp in one of my favourite movies `Blow` is great, he and Ray Liotta do a great job.

Blow was a period piece set in the '70s and '80s, so my theory holds up that Depp is great in fantasy films and period pieces, and is horrible in most of the contemporary roles he chooses. There's been a couple of possible exceptions to that rule, but I can't think of any from his filmography.

Both. While there are times when actors can only do so much with the material they're given, there's also many instances of actors at least putting on good performances in bad films.

One of my favorite Denzel roles is his portrayal of Frank Lucas in "American Gangster"

Another movie ruined by Russell Crowe. I agree, great Denzel performance though.

I liked his performance but started to dislike the film after a couple of extra viewings. The pacing was inconsistent and the final act was a complete cop-out (no pun intended).

In terms of villains, though, I don't think he'll top his performance in Training Day. Granted, he hasn't played many villains, but I'm not sure how he can ever reach that level of intensity and moral ambiguity again. Sure, the crooked cop bit has been done to death, but Denzel took it to another level by making his twisted morality rise to the surface in his explanations of his actions to Ethan Hawke's character. You can never underestimate an actor that knows how to focus his intensity in such a way that it burns through the lens slowly and silently before exploding in an act of random violence.

I seriously need a remake of The Last Airbender. By God, Shyamalan killed it with fire. I loved the series. Why did he have to do that?

It should have never been made into a live action movie in my opinion.

Couldn't agree more.

Did you see Unstoppable?

Virtuosity was a way better Washington vs. Crowe flick.

What do you guys think of the upcoming Batman flick? It's in 2012, so it's a long way from now, but with Christopher Nolan's recent hits with Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Inception and Memento, I can't help but feel great about this. It's Christian Bale as Batman, Anne Hathaway as Catwoman and Tom Hardy as Bane. A pretty solid group right there. What do you guys think?

If it's already been mentioned, sorry because I didn't wanna look through 9 pages, but who's seen Law Abiding Citizen? That's tops my favorite movies at the moment.

Watching Face/Off right now. I always loved this movie ever since I first saw it as a kid, but I appreciate it even more now as an adult. This was when John Travolta and Nicholas Cage were still relevant. Tremendous acting and great concept.

That is actually a pretty good movie. I've always loved it too. Never fully understood why. I can't stand John Travolta. Nicholas Cage is hit or miss.

When I think of Cage, I think of Moonstruck.

Speaking of Travolta, From Paris with love was a lot better than it looked.

Off topic: Luc Besson is one of my favorite directors along with Danny Boyle and the Cohens. I think people overrate Nolan, he's too clinical sometimes with his characterisation.

Not a movie, but my wife and I got hooked on the Starz Spartacus Blood and Sand series last winter. There were Spartacus parties around town too.

Yeah, that series was really good. Brutal. And you got to see Zenas yamyams.

Agreed about "From Paris with Love"... rented it on a whim (Redbox) and it turned out pretty decent.

I haven't seen a movie from Nolan that I didn't like... Boyle is excellent too.

Lol. Why else would someone watch a gladiator show if you get to see some yamyams?

Saw Yogi Bear... wasn't great but loved the alternate ending...

That's from The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
