Watched Inception yesterday. Fantastic flick. Leo knows how to pick them, like Depp does.

Johnny Depp is the best actor of our generation, BTW. I will hear no contradictory statements. -_-

You're mistaken. It's Denzel Washington.

I can agree to this. He can play so many roles.

Denzel is typecasted. Same role, over and over again.

Leo was money in Shutter Island too... I don't want to see him in another romance.

Recently, yes. Over his entire career though, the guy has blown Depp's work out of the water.

I STILL haven't watched Inception after hearing it was the best film of 2010.

Depp is more versatile but I agree Denzel is the better actor.

Sorry, it's Daniel Day-Lewis

I like DDL a lot. He has this presence about him, that makes you like him even if he's the villian.

Minority Report could have been great if it ended when

Tom Cruise gets put in the jail-coma thing. Or Max von Sydow could have killed Cruise instead of himself.

War or the Worlds was just ok. I could have done without the whole part with Tim Robbins, just seemed unnecessary. Also, the ending was lame.

Spielberg ruins his movies by insisting on happy endings.

Nothing he does will ever be as good as Schindler's List. That's the only movie I'm not ashamed to tell people that I've cried watching.

war of the world is an over 100 year old book, which i havent read haha, and it was also made into a movie before, but one could assume the book ended the same way as the movie.

speilberg isnt the only one with happy endings though, thats hollywood for ya, i dont care how a movie ends personally, as long as it fits the story, i do often think movies would end better if the "hero" died, or in some cases lived.

take i am legend for example, i prefer alternate ending blu ray version, apposed to theatrical.

So do I. It's much more raw and honestly, believable.

johnny depp is far more versatile then denzel, could u c denzel in alice in wonderland, or pirates, or fear and loathing haha, but he can also do dramas, donnie brasco and public enemies to name a few, that being said they r 2 totally different actors, depp being more of a character actor, he seems to like doing different roles, where as denzel plays it safe and sticks to the norm. training day is about as crazy as he gets, and even that wasnt that crazy.

on a somewhat related topic i heard jadakiss say in a rap that denzel "had to be crooked before he took it" referring to his oscar for training day, he did of course win an oscar years before ofr a supporting role, but still and interesting take none the less, making it about race is another thing altogether.

Jada spit that line in "Why?" and a lot of people felt the same way. Film awards are where I draw the line on invested interest so I could care less really.

Jadakiss' song was probably the worst-hyped political song in the history of hip-hop, mainly because he had only two or three insightful lines out of the entire duration of the song. Styles P, Nas, and others have done much, much better in making political songs. But, that's a different topic for a different conversation...

Back to the Denzel vs. Depp debate, it depends on the role. Denzel's roles have traditionally been grounded in contemporary realism, so for those types of roles, I'd give the edge to Denzel. Depp is better-suited for period pieces and fantasy roles. Some of the more mediocre roles that Depp has done have been in movies as average joes or protagonists in contemporary settings like in Nick of Time, Secret Window, and (from what I've heard) The Tourist.

I wouldn't go so far as to proclaim Johnny Depp or Denzel Washington the best actor of our generation just yet, when there've been other actors who have the range to do roles in all periods. I would make an argument that Russell Crowe, Leonardo DiCaprio, and (to an extent) Brad Pitt have shown range across both realism and fantasy, and have demonstrated as much consistency. Don Cheadle gets an honorable mention, largely because he's done more in supporting roles than some actors do in lead roles.

I agree wholeheartedly on "Why?" and you're Depp/Denzel contrast is fair.

If we're going to mention Cheadle though, Forest Whitaker deserves a nod too. Like Cheadle, he's been in a lot of supporting roles but is quite underrated.

I'll agree on Forest Whitaker as an actor, though I'm surprised that Whitaker's chosen to direct some pretty bad movies. He's better as a character actor.

Now there is a good movie. So suspenseful. Throw in Walken and you have a winner. That movie is so underrated.

Russell Crowe I can't stand. Any movie he is in, ruins the movie for me. He just looks like he is going to throw up on my shoe every moment.

I can't stand either of those movie. Russell Crowe ruins it for me with his 'I want to puke on your shoes' face.

Gladiator I can watch, but I don't herald it as much as most.
