Flacco In The Offseason

45 posts in this topic

Flacco definately needs to go through his reads quicker, but I think a lot of the problem came from having such slow receivers and having long drawn out plays. It takes so long for someone to get open, that Flacco gets into the bad habit of locking on to someone. Again, I think he needs to get much better at his reads, but its not like he got any help.

Practice rolling out of the pocket and instead of running out of bounds for negative yards and taking a sack, thorwing the ball away.

Flacco was progressing throughout the season extending plays. Then there was a strong regression after a short while. I expect Zorn and the rest of the guys to really coach that to him. He has the ability, its just a matter of executing such things.

Flacco must work on his POCKET PRESENCE... meaning he needs to watch tons of footage and see how sometimes he holds the ball too long.. He needs to work on making decisions quicker and going through his progression. Flacco needs to remember that throwing the ball away is better than taking a sack or running out of bounds for a loss.

If he can improve his overall awareness in the pocket he can eliminate at least 10 sacks off the total alone regardless of the offense line play being good or bad...

And I truly believe he needs to work on his deep passing, because while he can throw the ball FAR or Deep well, he doesn't deliver it accurately, on most occasions it is high loft that sails giving the defense time to recover or it is just a clear overthrow..

Also I would like to see him develop a relationship with a WR similar to the one he has with Ray Rice, so that he feels he can trust and depend on the WR to make a play for him...

He needs to work on recognizing pre-snap coverages, so that when he is under the center he can have a clearer idea where he wants to go with the ball.

I think we should have more plays out of the shotgun for him, so that he can stand tall and deliver passes...

We didn't run the hurry up offense at all this year, but last year we seemed pretty comfortable with that... I think running a hurry up offense at times could help Flacco develop a rhythm early on, so that offense doesn't hit dry spell

Joe needs to work on:

- Quicker defensive reads
- Quicker ball release
- Scrambling to extend plays
- Throw the ball away instead of taking a sack or losing yards!

I think agree on all of the above :)

Does any of this even matter? As long as Cam is back, fixed offensive line or not, our offense will still underperform. I called not having a more dynamic, faster offense hurting us last offseason and I'm calling having Cameron calling the shots again will get us either one and done or two and done come the 2012 playoffs. I really think that, not trying to be a negative Nancy.

I just don't see it. The guy has his faults but all signs point to him not having autonomy next season and that alone means we'll see an improvement in my opinion. Some of the things Cam didn't do this season just defied conventional logic. Other coahces talking to him and offering input will be good.

I'd say building on his chemistry with his receivers and being alert under pressure. Stop running out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage. And getting the ball out quicker. Look at Peyton Manning's film. I always notice him checking off plays constantly. And what happened to Joe's running game. He was never a Vick, but I remember he used to be a pretty good scrambler. It looks like I'm just reiterating what everyone else says. There were quite a few times when Boldin would be calling for it and he threw it away. And I agree with you to a certain extent, Romo Ravens. If we have Gaither and our o-line healthy again(hopefully Gaither won't be complaining of back spasms) and we play conservative and predictable, then I say get rid of him. But I'm confident Flacco will improve. He just needs to take all of our advice into consideration. he was great his first year. And not bad his second.

You say that Cam won't have a lot of autonomy next season, but do you really trust Harbaugh to call better plays? I see the same old offense that Baltimore is used to

Peyton is one of the greatest of all time and has long mastered his offense. I mean no offense by this but bringing up his name when discussing Joe is just useless, considering the differences in their experience level and the parts of his game #18 has developed over time.

Joe didn't scramble as much this season because of the line and attempts to throw to WRs more.

Cam not having as much control doesn't mean Harbaugh will be calling the plays. I think what we'll see is Cam's play-book reflect the suggestions he gets from different people more.

And again, just being able to run the ball better will help the offense immensely.

As long as Cam uses the middle more, and all the players with speed, I'm good1

Joe will get alot better if we significantly improve our
Offensive line .

The o line is what cost us going to the Super Bowl . I'm
Sure of it . The run game completely sputtered because of it .

We need to get a strong o- line for Flacco !!!!!
