Joe Flacco's (kind Of) Epic Mega Statistical Breakdown

54 posts in this topic

A lot of people drops word bombs on Cam and Flacco this season. SO... let's analyze how Joe did this season and we can judge for ourselves. Please do not merge with any other thread. These statistics are accurate and collected by me.

Therefore... JOE FLACCO'S (kind of) EPIC MEGA STATISTICAL BREAKDOWN.

2010 Season

25 Touchdowns, 10 Interceptions, 3622 Yards, 94 Passer Rating

Joe Flacco's Throwing Formations

Shotgun
153 / 231 (66%) for 1465 yards and 19 touchdowns

Under Center
153 / 258 (59%) for 2157 yards and 6 touchdowns

No Huddle
19 / 31 for 265 yards
Note: Apparently Cam didn't like the no huddle being we only ran a no huddle pass 31 times in an entire season.

READY TO GET YOUR MIND BLOWN??? FACT: 12 of the 31 no huddle passes were against Tampa Bay. 9 were against Buffalo. Aside from those two games, Joe never threw out of a no huddle more than twice in any other game. 9 games this season did not involve ANY no huddle passes whatsoever.

Pass Play Distances/Attempts

-3 Yards: 63 attempts
4-7 Yards: 124 attempts
8-10 Yards: 95 attempts
11-20 Yards: 196 attempts
20- 40 Yards: 61 attempts
40+ Yards: 13 attempts

READY TO GET YOUR MIND BLOWN??? FACT: Check down Joe actually isn't check down Joe after all. 282 of his passing attempts were from 0 yards to 10 yards. 270 of his passing attempts were over 10 yards.

Passing Downs

1st Down
113 / 174 (65%) for 1234 yards

2nd Down
106 / 156 (68%) for 1202 yards

3rd Down
86 / 144 (60%) for 1162 yards

4th Down
2 / 4 (50%) for 24 yards

Who Joe Throws To

RB / FB
98 completed passes

WR
157 completed passes

TE
51 completed passes

READY TO GET YOUR MIND BLOWN??? FACT: If defending against Flacco, there's a 50/50 chance he will either throw to a RB/FB/TE or a WR. Making defending extremely hard. Where as the league average is closer to 74% for WR and 36% for RB/TE

Yayyyy this is what I wanted. Assuming these are right, the difference there is pretty startling, although Flacco definitely threw for more yards/attempt when under center - that's interesting...

Any idea on the interception numbers in those formations? Oh, a passer-rating isn't a percentage, rather, it's a number.

That's some crazy stuff. Statistics don't tell the whole story but they do in this case. Flacco still has a lot growing to do but he's not the bum some make him out to be.

Fixed the passer rating, my mistake on the % deal.

Yeah, I was replying to you in the other thread but decided to just make a thread on it all together.

There is ONE iffy thing. Flacco technically threw 1 touchdown out of a no huddle, but they "kind of" huddled for 5-6 seconds, so it didn't count.

For the record, that introduction doesn't preclude any thread from ever getting merged with another thread...no matter how much work went into researching any stats... -_-

Yes, but I wub the Rock so I get special benefits :ICONATOR_01040da29c18a4eed76047

I don't mind merging, I just don't want to see my hard work get lost in the middle of a no ones thread.

I think the telling stat is 19 touchdowns out of the Gun!

We need to know where at on the field each attempt took place.... Joe threw for less yards from the shotgun because they seem to use it more in the redzone, which would mean he is more limited "available yardage". Nice stats though. I promise you that if the numbers were broken down, Cams tendencies are VERY strong and is said he Very predictable. Accompany that, with the level of defenses Joe has faced and I think you'll see he hasn't been put in the best position to take over the offense when its needed.

wow his completion% is 66 out of the shotgun??big frickin suprise, just the formation u should run with the crop of wideouts and backs who can receive as well as rush, yet countless times u see him working under center on 3rd down and med or long, cams a complete idiot

ive been preaching we should run more of a west coast style offence all season, play to ur teams strengths ffs

Too bad they don't keep an official stat of how many times a QB either doesn't see an open receiver, or does see them but completely ignores them.

READY TO HAVE YOUR MIND BLOWN AGAIN?!?! Seriously, you post a stat line think it means something? Maybe for fantasy football. Thanks for the AMAZING revelation!

Stats certainly don't paint the entire picture... Joe is still well behind the upper-tier QBs in terms of decision-making/football IQ and reading defenses, but he's getting there.

His prowess out of the shotgun isn't surprising, and the fact Cam under-utilized that formation is further justification for his release.

Shotgun Shotgun Shotgun. We needed to utilize this more this year with a weak o-line. Hopefully we'll have a healthy and quality line in 2011, and we will see a better showing from Flacco behind center.

Thank you for pulling this together for us. We've been saying all year that Joe should be in shotgun more. Maybe the team should listen to the fans sometimes.

Another disastrous Flacco performance to end the season.
When will management wake up and realize Flacco is mediocre at best?
Mike Preston had it right when he gave Flacco a D+.
Let's bring in some compeition during training camp and actually make Flacco EARN his position. We have too many great players on the team to continue to let Flacco hold us back. There is a reason he played for Delaware folks!

Maybe the coaching staff, particularly a certain OC, should have been aware of those statistics all along and adjusted accordingly.
