Confirmed: Chuck Pagano Named Ravens Defensive Coordinator

210 posts in this topic

I like what I have been reading about the player reactions
Ed Reed from the Baltimore Sun:
"Chuck will do everything he can to make sure the defense is prepared for each practice and every game. The time and effort he puts in and what he will sacrifice will be more than a championship-caliber. I believe his best coaching quality is working with the other coaches and players around him. Just like Coach Mattison, Chuck will get input from everyone, and that will help him be the best coordinator he can be and us be the best defense we can be."

I can't find where I read that Pagano is a players coach. There is the business side, but the personal side as well, that he is a lot of fun.

Its great he's a players guy, it'd be even greater if he was a players coach that fielded a top 10 defense again.

Sorry I was trying to hurry to get out the door. But I wasn't saying if he would want him back or not. I was just saying that if Wilson did not return, I'm sure Pagano would express interest in either drafting a new CB early, or picking a good one up in FA or trade.
Okay. Agreed then. Let's hope if they draft a CB, it's Brandon Harris or Arron Williams.

For what it's worth, Mel Kiper has us taking Brandon Harris in his mock draft.

I'm aware. Sadly, I have a feeling Harris will probably go before the Ravens draft. He's widely considered the third best CB behind the consensus top two and will only fall if he bombs at the Combine, which I don't see happening at all.

Add to that he's behind Patrick Peterson widely considered the best CB prospect in years, and a once in a decade talent.

,

i didnt catch the interview...its fine if he's nervous, I'm sure by the time OTA roll around he'll be used to the spotlight.
Did he say anything of note, or was it just the protocol 'glad to have the opportunity, we're gonna kick tail' stuff?,,,,,,,,
The typical stuff.

We could always move up gents, don't forget about the great Oz. I know there were conditional picks in trades last year, does anyone have at least a rough idea of the picks that we do have in this upcoming draft?

So, because a guy is nervous in an interview you're uneasy? Are you perfectly calm when you give interviews that are aired on TV and the Internet? Come on....
Being around the league everyone has cameras in there face, so yes he should be use to it. But to be perfectly honest you can't judge a man off his interview,i just said that it makes me a lil uneasy. Not really a need to compare me to him,,,,,lol switch to decaff.

By "consensus top two", I was referring to Peterson and Amukamara.

lol no I know I was just stating Harris would have been rated higher if Peterson wasnt such a freak. Basically Harris is a very good prospect, hes just in the same class as a corner with Champ Bailey capabilities.

Unless this team has a glaring need, there will be no moving up.

Well, they've done it in the past to get a player they covet. Haloti, for example, even though it was only one slot.

Agreed. If they see someone that they think could really contribute and starting to drop in the draft. then I could see it happening. Although I'm not counting on it.

Ah, my bad. Yes. If Peterson weighs in at 220 like he's listed, runs a fast 40 and displays fluid hips, I'll be officially on board that he's the next Bailey.

That and Ray yelled at the front office to get someone who weighs more than 320 on the Dline in front of him for a change lol

Yes Ray is partly responsible for us getting Ngata...what doesnt Ray do lol

I hate to say it but Ray is also partly responsible for the team not focusing on drafting or trying to develop smaller, more athletic defensive tackles who can provide legitimate pressure on the QB.

That's why I'm hoping Cody develops. With him and Ngata, the team could draft or at least sign a young, one-gap penetrator.

But before that draft our Dline was ridiculously small with Gregg, Weaver, and Douglas and none of them could pass rush worth a sniff. So if your going to stink at pass rushing on the Dline of a 3-4, then you better be able to stop the run. So I dont blame Ray for wanting that at all.

Good point. Even with Ngata's improvement in the area, the team needs an interior pass rusher of some kind.

Just read some interesting tidbits on the Pagano hire and the man personally courtesy of Peter King.

You can read about the hire near the bottom of this page. Link

Also didn't know...
[Pagano] was an assistant on the University of Miami staff in [Ray Lewis]' last year there, 1995.

Interesting to see Pagano's take on that 3rd and 19. Essentially saying it was Webb's fault for not sticking with the go route, but that for a 2nd year player, it's a learning experience. Too bad we couldn't pull Housh's sluggo move on their CB during the game.

Correct.....as some (myself included) have been saying, PERFECT formation but horrible execution/coverage.

Anyone know if Pagano prefers 3-4 or 4-3. Because if we are building our offense from the ground up, we might as well do it to our defense as well IF Chuck is a 4-3 guy. I believe that Mattison was a 4-3 guy and didn't really know how to bring pressure, or really game plan for a 3-4 defense.
