u realize being a college coach or coordinator is very respectable outside of the northeast bubble. lots of people treat college football like we do the ravens.
Sure it is, but to coach the almighty Ravens has got to be on every D coordinators bucket list.

We argued so long i forgot what the argument was about. Oh yeah 3rd and 19 calling a prevent. How come the refs where in better position to make the play then the players. You had two corners on the opposite side of the field covering noone. That is why we got fried and he is now coaching where his heart is.
No, you tried to drag it out so long, you lost the argument.

There was nothing wrong with the call, the played messsed it up.

It was clearly his decision to leave and he did so on his own power. He has history with Michigan so he obviously chose to go back to it.
Not to mention Mattison also took the Michigan job to be closer to his daughter, who is about to give birth to his grandchild. Furthermore, he's also doing it as a favor to his longtime friend Brady Hoke, who was just hired as the head coach there. Mattison clearly cares more about family and friends than money or personal glory.

Well, if we must go there, aside from through grade school, I played 4 years (varsity) at John Carroll in Harford County and 2 years at Towson (played basketball as well). I then transferred to UMBC and continued playing D1 lacrosse, so I know plently about competitive sports.

I didn't act like you threw it in my face, you just happen to feel it necessary to mention in every other post.

When football sense is brought up, that is a piece of relevant info. Don't you think? That's the only time i say anything. I think, i even referred to myself as a has been, but that doesn't change what i know about this game.

Its just so many of yall commenting i lose focus. The play call got the man a new job either way. Whether its a promotion or demotion he is no longer here, and we will not witness anymore such plays.

Not really.....I've been posting here for 2 and 1/2 years with thousands of posts and have never once rattled off my player bio like I just di for you. But, to each his own. I really don't care, doesn't bother me, just find it a bit humorous.

Since I have assisted in the hijacking of this thread, I will say, on topic, that I am excited for the change of pace and hope Pagano is a little Rex, sprinkled with some Mattison :)

That is called resigned from the position. This happens so people can save face. I think i may be speculating though.

How do you know? The great REX RYAN used three man rushes, even against the Steelers. I clearly remember him doing it against them in '08 when Holmes had that TD that should ruled incorrectly.

What if Pagano does it in a situation?

Apparently everyone on the face of the earth is saying he's a HIGHLY aggressive coordinator and expect a lot of blitzing.
See this actually worries me abit, we dont have great man coverage corners, and we definitely dont have anyone who can press worth a damn. We have one maybe 2 guys who can actually get off a pass block consistently and when the blitz gets blocked up we're screwed. I hope for our sake Pagano isn't just a "blitz for the sake of blitzing" guy and actually has some type of schematic advantages drawn up.

I don't know enough about this guy as a DC to be happy that he is the guy. But I can be happy that there will be a new face in control, mixing things up, and hopefully motivating some of the younger kids some more. I hope this works out for us, and Matty. And thanks to Matty for his job here. Maybe with this guy our defense will be looking for a #1 shut down corner. Not that we need it, but if we don't resign at least Wilson, then yes we will.

Did it work? Apparently not.

3-man rush is only valuable to throw off an offense that isn't expecting it. What Mattison did was make it painfully obvious before the play started that Ben would have enough time to throw a deep route (which is exactly what he wanted to do). Not much more can be said. It was one play. I hope we don't see it too often.

I still don't think they'll need one if Wilson isn't re-signed. If the pass rush is improved, Foxworth, Webb, Carr(who'll probably be cheaper than Wilson) and a draft pick are a good CB corps.

I know it didn't work and that's why I brought it up.

Mattison made it obvious but Webb and Landry could not have played their coverage any worse.

So how come Cam hasn't gone yet? All I hear other than Cam is leaving.

Congratz both Pagano and Mattison...

I thought your post was an argument in favor of that defensive formation for that play. Clearly we are not well-designed to be playing 3 up front. (Not that I've ever seen it work for any other team.) With a young CB and CB new to the system, we need to take pressure OFF of the back end.

Mattison left to take a new position. He'd probably been communicating with people at Michigan for a while.

Seeing as Harbaugh hasn't met with Bisciotti or the other team officials(I think it happens Thursday), Cam could not be fired.

It was. I brought it up because people make it seem like only Mattison does it because he's "vanilla" or lacks "killer instinct".

I agree to an extent but we've seen Ben frequently elude pressure and make a play. The deep ball should never have been completed.

I began to like Mattison after two solid (not elite, but solid) years as the D-coordinator. He had less to work with than Rex did especially in the secondary and at LB. (we lost Adalius, and Bart Scott at LB and had multiple injuries to the safety and CB positions) Still think Rex was better, but Mattison proved serviceable.

I'm excited about Pagano though. He knows Ed and Ray from his days at the U. He also knows Asomugha which could help us in getting him to Bmore. (Assuming that the FO goes after him)

He'll probably relate to the players better than matty since he's younger. Well, maybe someone will take Cam off our hands. It sounds like Al Saunders is out to Oakland. Although if Cam goes I think that leaves only Zorn, which may not be good.

what kind of scheme does he run? is he aggressive like rex or a little conservative n likes to rush 4 like matty? is he a 4-3, 3-4, zone blitz, cover 2? im just curious cause i seldom watch college football n never watched unc football. hope he doesnt like to rush 3 on 3rd n long...

Of course plays are not designed to fail, there's always some fault of the players. I'll just say as soon as I saw that formation I knew we were screwed.

Resigned to save face?? Why would he need to save face for yielding a defensive unit that gave up the third-fewest points in the league? Thereotically, if you don't give up points, you don't lose games, no matter how many yards you surrender.

Mattison left to be closer to his soon-to-be-born grandchild and to work with a longtime friend. He's 61 years old. He didn't leave out of embarassment, he left because family and personal obligations were more important to him.

I wish Mattison the best, and hope Pagano can live up to the tradition of great defense in Baltimore.

Any idea what school of defense Pagano comes from?
What happened first Mattison leaving or Pagano getting promoted? I don't get it unless Mattison left first to go coach with his buddy.
