Where Does Foxworth Fit In On Defense Next Season?

51 posts in this topic

I was wondering where Foxworth should fit in at the CB position? Wilson IS a starter and Carr didn't really do much to lose his starting spot. Webb is also a potential starter depending on the type of WR we are up against. Foxworth looked better down the stretch in 09 but would he automatically take over for Carr? Also it seems like some people would like to see Zbikowski get some snaps at SS. I do not like Landry in coverage but it seems as though he does just enough to keep his job.

There will likely be an open competition at CB. Additionally, Foxworth might still be gun-shy for a bit after his injury so it's more prudent to ease him back into the starting lineup if he's deserving of the designation. Foxworth played exceptionally well down the stretch so I wouldn't be surprised to see a rotation of starters at CB, with Foxworth getting most of the starts opposite Josh Wilson.

Like Franny said, there will be competition. And the best thing about competition is that it breeds success. Assuming the pass rush improves, I have high hopes for next year's CB corps.

Wilson, Foxworth, Webb and Carr should all be in an open competition. Suddenly our biggest weakness provides an interesting and much needed competition of some solid players.

Not really. I don't see Asomugha coming here.

Why would u want as? Seriously.. The contract he would require would burden us more then he would help.. Especially with the talent we already have at cb... Id much rather spend that money on the line whether offensive or tdefensive

Yes Foxworth fis well with our CB corps and will add even more CB depth. I don't think CBs will be a problem for us next season provided Carr and Wilson get contract extensions.

Hopefully Foxworth heals as well as Webb did. I think a lot of us forget that Webb was coming back from major knee surgery yet was very effective.

But I can't wait to get Foxy back.

You can never have too many cornerbacks. Our CBs stayed relatively healthy this season but we saw what the 2007, 2008, and 2009 seasons became...

Since Foxy's injury happened early, hopefully he won't have to sit on the PUP list and he can compete during training camp.... assuming there's a CBA in place.

Real funny. I'm waiting for when neither of latter two are signed and people say Ozzie should be fired.

Probably so, and argument can be made that he's being paid as a top 10 CB in the league but the performance hasn't been there.

no where. Foxworth and Fabian both have been spotty last season. Cornerback position wont have any 'starters' per se. Anyone who steps up and perform at the highest level will take that roster. Some CB might fall out of their performance from this year and some might not. We'll just have to see

It's going to happen. I remember a guy saying Ozzie should be canned immediately after Brandon Marshall got traded to Miami.

They haven't. He improved late last season but this is a "what have you done for me lately" league and Foxworth spent an entire season on IR. Continue getting paid $6 million seems a bit steep.

Once foxy comes back, it adds more depth to our CB position, obviously. i think we will have some sort of rotation going. its funny though, i remember a lot of people wanting Carr gone, and now most people want him to start lol

I definitely wouldn't be surprised to see Foxy have his contract restructured to free up some money for the team. The man is extremely classy, and just doesn't strike me as a "money and me first" kind of person. For those who claim Foxy was "spotty", you're obviously forgetting how well he performed once the season hit it's second half. The man made some fantastic swats and open field tackles in that wildcard game against New England.

I, for one, can't wait to get him back and in the mix. Foxworth, Wilson, Webb, and Carr is a lot of talent and depth at a "weak spot" in our defense come next season.

I like the idea of moving forward with Foxworth, Wilson and Webb. These guys have all performed for us, and know our systems well. Not so sure about Carr, I do like his physicality and influence on the field, but I think his coverage is somewhat suspect at times.

Carr is much better than most would give him credit for. The man has made huge strides from the player he was when he first took the field as a Raven. Now, if Foxy comes back at full strength, and plays as he did during the second half and post season last year, Carr would be back to his nickel or dime position, depending upon how everyone performed during the off season. Now, Carr played quite well this season, starting all 16 games, notching 61 tackles, 3 forced fumbles, 8 pass deflections, and picking off two passes. That would be one hell of a nickel or dimeback.

I can't even recall how Foxworth played.
And I'm sure I've seen him play since he was a Raven.
I don't think he's that extra player that will turn this team around, and I don't think he's the answer at CB.
It seems like Fabian won't be back as a Raven, but we still need a solid CB or a safety.
Hopefully Reed will be back next season, but what about Zibby or Landry?
Landry can't tackle and Zibby can't make it on the field.
Our secondary really did step it up this season, especially when Reed came back, and in my opinion Carr had a great season and can only get better.
I think Wilson and Webb should stay and should be considered in the return game.

Either have a rotation, or if all three men are 100%, just let them battle it out during the off season. You already have two starter quality corners in Wilson and Foxy, Webb's made huge strides, while Carr's a consistent role player.

Having Foxy and Wilson starting with Webb and Carr as your nickel and dime, or any combination of the four will be a formidable corp. I'm not saying it's going to be a top 5 group, but it definitely won't be the weak spot every pundit says it is.

Oh absolutely. I think we have to remember where we drafted Webb, he's obviously very highly rated by our organisation. But I would be more than happy with those guys moving forward.
