[Blogs] ‘Fingers Crossed’ Mason, Birk Don’t Retire

42 posts in this topic

First and foremost, Asmoguha and Bailey will be free agents this offseason so keep that in mind. I would love for birk to come back, mason, not so much, we have to improve our speed in the WR core and mason does not fit that mold. In addition, he has played drama queen too many times this season about getting the ball anyway, its not as if he is still a elite receiver or anything, I mean, the only reason he has the stats he has was because for the last couple of season, he was the only wideout we had. Boldin needs to be a secondary wide because obviously his best years are behind him, he is still tough enough to go through the middle but cant be trusted to carry a game in the later rounds of the playoffs. TJ is a great slot as well as stallworth, We just need a solid number one to stretch the field and force double teams so that everyone else can get open. At this point, we should consider what we have on the WR core and see how many possession receivers we really need and get some needed speed, worked for pit and NE, think its time for ozzy to work it out before 52 says screw it.

it is too early, allow these guys to go spend time with their families, talk with them and prayerfully consider coming back to the game you have what it takes to come back next season and go all the way, Thanks for a Great Season Guys

Mase has been great these last few years, but he's not getting any faster, any better, and when we really needed his impact (Pitts.) he was shut down. Birk is old. Period. Our O line hurt us too often this year and he got beat a number of times in pass protection. I also didn't see him moving any big guys backward in the run game. Look at the stats. He wasn't scaring anybody and his line calling didn't exactly produce huge holes for our backs. Fresh blood, youth. We'll have plenty of 30 year old vets without these two. Sprinkle in some speed.

Agree with this. I'd love for them to both come back though. Mason is in great shape and his comeback routes are as good as anyone in the NFL. Birk is a solid center and I admire the work he does to try and reduce serious lasting head injuries in the game.

Also Housh is really a great receiver over the middle, but didn't get used to his potential because you never see Cameron call cross routes. He dropped one on that 4th in the divisional game and it hurts, yeah. I bet nobody in the world feels worse about it than he does. Thats going to haunt him. A lot of people are down on poor TJ though. You don't hear them yelling to cut Boldin and he dropped one that Flacco bounced off his chest in the endzone. I really hope we can keep Houshmanzadeh and use him to his full potential next season.

Ok. Mr. Ray Lewis, I know you love to grab Ed Reed by the helmet as you give him the best compliment in the field after grabbing another interception, but please control your superhuman strength when you do that. It's doing a number on his neck.

It appears that Mason is not happy and has not been for some time with the offensive direction. He knows that he has to make a life changing decision in the very near future as to giving it another year or just calling it a career and going into the normal rat race like the rest of us. If his heart is not 100% in staying then he should retire and move on. He owes that to himself and his family.

Both need to retire. We need to get younger and give Stallworth a starting spot. He can stretch the field. Mason is good possession WR but that's all we have. Look at Steelers. Wallace stretches the field for Ward. Take your millions and millions and millions and go to the NFL network as a broadcaster

If you were Mason and Birk and had to come back to an offense run by Cam Cameron what would you do, play or retire? If their only option is to play for Baltimore or retire, then I bet they retire. If they can go somewhere else and play, my bet is they move on. Any one who is not under contract would have to be forced to come back to play on an offense run by Cameron. I can't think of an offensive player that has spoken out about how good Cameron is and how they want to stay, quite the contrary.

Reed had his issues with Harbaugh before this season started and was complaining, I doubt if he returns to a team with these dysfunctional coaching issues. I look for Reed to try to get to the NY Jets somehow. I do think that people will be more likely to return on the defensive side. LeRon McLain, I think, spoke for a number of people who don't want to speak out. I don't think there is a player who is happy with the offense, the production, the schemes or the execution and to change that you have to change the coordinator. I continue to hear reports from the Baltimore Sun that the Ravens front office is on board with Cameron and if that is the case, I refuse to support Cameron for another year, in good conscience, I can't do it, I'm sorry.
