The Play Nobody Is Talking About

Ryan Clark leading with his helmet in an attempt to spear Ma$e, mase sidestepping and results in Ike Taylor getting laid out instead.

Would have made my day to see Clark getting a flag for spearing his own teammate :D

I remember finding this completely hilarious at the time, riding the adrenaline and all. I was screaming about how he took one cheap-shot too many on the Ravens.

I also got my hopes up about Taylor being out for the rest of the game, but he's made of tougher stuff, which you've got to admire.

I credit him for that but Ike is still a punk. who head-butts a guy and then raises their arms like when that player gets angry?

I was happy nobody got hurt but the steelers were trying to take every shot they could at our players. Hines whole purpose that day was to try an injure Reed.

True. I do hate that it wasn't called at all. I'm not saying it would have had an effect on the result, but it was pure unsportsmanship.

I remember I remarked to my brother 'There goes Clark again spearing with his head, now he's taking out his own guy."

That guy is a danger to football.

I still get chills about that hit on Mcgahee in the AFC championship a few years ago

Ryan Clark has to be the most dangerous Football player out there.

He's the only player I would love to see suspended indefinitely for his repeated flagrant hits. Clark knocked Hiney into 2nd place on my "Most Hated Player" list in the 2008 AFCCG and hasn't been dethroned since.

I think if the intent is there, the penalties should be exactly the same as if he'd hit Mase.

Dude, that was a text book tackle by Clark. His head was to the side of Mase. Only problem was Taylor being there.

His head only wound up in that position because Mase moved. At the time he came in for the hit, helmet first, Mase was right in front of him. Whether by his own momentum or by virtue of Taylor hitting him, Mase moved forward. Without that forward motion, Clark would have hit Mase directly with his helmet.

Exactly. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only person to notice how he CONSTANTLY does that. Dive at players head first.

If you're insinuating that Ryan Clark led with his helmet in an attempt to hit Mason with his helmet, I absolutely, 100% disagree. Let's try to find the video of it. I still have the game recorded, but I don't know how to post it here if I record it on my android.

So he hit Taylor with his helmet in the shoulder yes? Taylor was tackling Mason and moved him forward. They did not stay in their positions with that tackle. If he wound up hitting Taylor with his helmet after they move forward, because now Taylor is where Mason was before the forward motion, how did he not lead with his helmet?

Should he dive with his posterior first? Anyway, he didn't hit the dude in the head. He didn't intend to knock out both he and McGahee either. Wake up!

Yet he still completed the wrap up. If Ike wasn't there, we're not even discussing this. I think Clark knows who to line up his target and make a tackle. He did this one right and STILL we're talking about leading with his head. Ridiculous.

No offense, but it's always only you guys who bring this crap up.

I didn't say he intends to hit people helmet to helmet or knock anyone out. I'm just saying, his technique is ridiculous, launching off the ground and leading helmet first. That type of play calls for injuries.

He's not allowed to launch himself to lay out a defenseless receiver, but he can leave his feet to make a tackle. Obviously his head will lead the way to where ever he wants his shoulders to go. He's been knocked out too and most of the time it's because the offensive player ducked.

Since when is a player who is fighting for extra yards considered a "defenseless receiver"? It's completely legal to lead with your head, helmet to helmet, launch, etc. against a ballcarrier.

I love taking shots at Steelers' players as much as anyone but Clark made a clean hit. He hit Mason's side with his shoulder and his head was behind Masons' back, from what I recall. Bad luck for Taylor for standing there but, otherwise, a clean hit by Clark.

That said, he's been known for questionable hits in the past, this wasn't one of them.

EDIT: Clark may have led with his helmet, but he only made contact with his shoulder. Can't call him for that.

I'm still stunned as to why the refs turned the other way on the Ike Taylor headbutt and the first Kemoeatu lunge at the end of the play

Those definitely needed to be called. They got away with it, the refs were in prime position to see both.

I always talk about that play. Seeing Mcgahee's body just bend back and fall limp was an extremely frightening sight to see. The brotha didnt even know what happened.

Clark pretty much won this game for the Steelers, get on him all you want, we lost, they won, what else is new?
This isn't a play no one else is talking about, it's nothing, we lost.
This thread is a stretch at best.
