Neither am I. Baldwin is talented but there are a some things I don't like about him.

That's why I like the guy. He's a team player, blocks well, is capable of the spectacular catch and is just dominates people with the ball in his hands.

You're right, the Ravens will likely have to move to snag him.

Im a fan of Jones as well, and honestly maybe we should just move up and get him depending on the cost. Our scouting staff struggles with WR evaluation, maybe its time to just get someone that can have more of an impact than any WR we've ever had. But I dont think theres any way the Pats dont take him at #16.

True. Baldwin would be a good consolation prize though. I PRAY the Pats don't draft Jones.

Yep. His absence really hurt on kick-off returns. Webb is very good but Reed is arguably better. Parmele isn't as explosive as either of them.
Webb is probably the mainstay at PR and Reed, if healthy, will be the KR for the future.

I'm surprised we didn't see Reed more in the offense this year. One would think that the "next Steve Smith" would at least get some looks. But I think we were too preoccupied with proving to the media that Housh and Boldin were good acquisitions, not giving Reed much of a chance.

Agreed. An issue some people, including myself, have overlooked is how the need to satisfy egos might have hurt the offense.

Justin Harper always seemed to make the really hard catches, and drop the really easy ones.

One positive from this is... Flacco normally throws to the guy who is double covered or closely marked, or he makes the catch harder than it has to be by sailing it high or low. So Harper could have plenty of opportunities to make those tough catches he seems to be good at.

Either way, Justin Harper playing really depends on Mason, Houshmandzadeh, and Stallworth. If Mason retires, if TJ decides to play on a team where he'll get more looks, and if Stallworth has decided he'd like to go back to playing receiver instead of running back... then Harper will most likely get a chance by default. But I don't see him "beating out" any of those other guys if they come back.

Clearly not. All I know is I was watching a Cowboy game this year and the announcer were saying how the opposing defensive coordinator said he worried more about Bryant than anybody else. Not Witten, not Austin, not Williams, but the rookie Bryant. He's electric and exactly what our offense needs. He was also a top 5 or top 10 talent that we nearly got in the 20's.
FO doesn't have the balls to take someone with that talent. The dude was just one spot before us. We all knew that the Patriots weren't going to draft him so why couldn't we trade up just one spot? I'm starting to think that we'll never draft a WR with a lot of upside, and instead sign stop gap players, just like how we've heard we're thinking about Burress. Seriously?

Cam...

:34853_brickwall:

The Steelers found a way to get their 5th WR, Antonio Brown, 16 catches during the season but the Ravens can't get their 5th WR one.

Answer : CAM SUCKS

Yeah, NFL QBs never try to hit WRs even with there's tight coverage.

David Reed getting hurt was a disappointment he really was looking promising. I was excited to see what he could do.

David Reed getting hurt was disappointing but the drug raid was more disappointing!

Man Justin Harper has been on the shelf for a very long time as the Raven's are trying to mold this guy. He seems to have potential but needs to work on his hands. For as long as the Ravens have been working with this guy, he should be ready to go. Hell with 3 years of pro training, I'm sure I can get out there a make 20 grabs!

Yeah the drug raid was a bit disturbing.
When are Pro players going to learn to not jeopardize the opportunities they are given.
3 years to develop potential seems like a long time. I would think you either have "hands" or you don't. I guess they see something in him.

It's almost a waste to draft a WR. We don't even use our young WR'S.... We have Never grew a legitimately talented WR. Clayton has been the best..... not saying much. For some reason we're Very hesitant to start our you draft picks or they just aren't good enough.

I think if we draft one in the first, he should get plenty of playing time. Anyone beyond the third though was just a waste of a pick to back up your point

How many Ravens WRs have been drafted high and played with good QBs?

Patrick Johnson made some plays but was really a track guy.

Taylor had no hands and played with bad QBs.

Devard Darling had some talent but playing Boller and then getting being pushed aside by Mason doomed him.

Clayton played with a good QB for really two years of his career but injuries(not missing games but nagging), inconsistency and possibly not being utilized correctly hurt him.

Figurs was another small track guy.

Only two players from that group were taken in the first round and neither played with good QBs for much of their careers.

Not all good wide receivers started out as first round guys. The second part of what I mentioned was geared towards all positions of the players we drafted, not just the Wr. It was a more general statement.

Okay. But with how many veterans the team signed through free agency since Harbaugh took over, most rookies weren't going to get much opportunity to start anyway. Especially this season.

The team is still hesitant to try something different even of said veteran was being a detriment to the team. I guess it comes down to the young guys weren't good enough.

But remember, most NFL coaches, heck most sports coaches are cautious. If there's baseline production they can expect from someone, they usually go with that guy rather than risk playing a rookie and risk seeing him get overwhelmed and making themselves look bad or angering the vet.

Still, as we've seen with players like Oher, Webb, Cody, Dickson and Reed, sooner or later, if they're talented enough, they see the field. What the Ravens need to do is get back to drafting people who force their way on the field from training camp.

I agree with drafting NFL ready players. I think we get mystified by the project player, especially on the defense. Gooden Ellerbee McClain Kruger Cody..... I hope these guys can develop SOON. If I were Cody, Is take this chance by the horns. Buddy Lee may retire... Cody needs to NOT come in over weight this year.

You're right in regards to Ellerbe, Jameel and Kruger. Ellerbe and Jameel have obvious talent but their mental lapses have occurred too often. It's looking like Kruger was a bad pick.

Gooden was supposed to be NFL ready having played at Miami but his lack of health, physicality and football IQ have been evident.

I couldn't agree more about Cody.
