Purple Punishment

Justin Harper

Every preseason we see this guy just burning anyone. In 09 Preseason he got open alot but had hands of stone, 10 preseason, he got open alot and actually had the hands. Question is, does anyone think he will be ready to climb our depth chart and start this coming season? He has incredible size and I think if he has an explosive pre season, he might just get to show his talents on Sunday.

It's up to him. He's flashed talent the past two pre-seasons but the drops have been maddening. I'd love to see him finally step up and not only claim a roster spot but become a starter but I'm not optimistic he will.

well we need someone lol. We need a young burner to stretch the field and grow with Joe. Maybe we will get our wish this year

I see the team drafting one, unless they're supremely confident in David Reed's abilities.

If we get T.J. and Mason back this year then we will be fine. I believe they are still very talented and can make a big impact if we use them the right way for a full 60 minutes.

Worry about receivers next year while we go all out on defense this year (if Mason and T.J. come back)

David Reed getting hurt was a disappointment he really was looking promising. I was excited to see what he could do.

Yea but even healthy we never used him as a reciever. There are times when having Reed and or Stallworth in would have really streatched the field for Joe, but I never saw it. I really think the play design left a lot to be desired with the ammount of talent on this team.

I would rather see us bring back one or the other. Having 3 of the same type of possesion reciever did not give Joe much to work with this year. Maybe having some youth infused, and speed in there would help him out a bit.

Yep. His absence really hurt on kick-off returns. Webb is very good but Reed is arguably better. Parmele isn't as explosive as either of them.

They are. I've read articles to that effect.

As for Harper, his issues in bad hand. But considering what our "big time" receivers did this past game, Harper isn't the only one that needs some time with the jugs machine.

I know they like Reed but are they so confident in him they won't address the WR position at all?

I think it all depends on what happens with the guys we currently have. Does Mason retire? Would Housh resign for a reasonable salary? What about Stallworth? Those are three huge questions because the only WR's we can say with certainty will be back next year are Boldin and Reed.

True. Whoever returns though, I still think a WR has to be drafted early. There's really one WR who seems to have the potential to become a better player. That's not good.

I hope not. The offense needs just as much as help as the defense, if not more. We cannot have three of the same WR's on offense. I wouldn't be opposed to letting both Mason and Housh walk, even though I think Mason will retire. I just want Boldin and Reed as our WR's come draft time, then I want Baldwin/Julio Jones to grow with Joe.

I just don't know. The kid only had 1 or 2 catches on the year. For an orgainzation to have a lot of faith in his talents at WR, sure didn't want to see more.

Reed? He had zero catches. Dude didn't even have a screen thrown his way.

That's right. He had just the one RUSHING attempt. I knew he had one something.

Cam...

:34853_brickwall:

The Steelers found a way to get their 5th WR, Antonio Brown, 16 catches during the season but the Ravens can't get their 5th WR one.

If only the Cowboys didn't jump up and steal Dez Bryant from us. With Dez Bryant on our team we beat Pittsburgh.
[/quote]

IDK if that would've happen just because Dez. You would've thought Boldin/Housh/Mason would've been enough fire power at WR to win that game.

Clearly not. All I know is I was watching a Cowboy game this year and the announcer were saying how the opposing defensive coordinator said he worried more about Bryant than anybody else. Not Witten, not Austin, not Williams, but the rookie Bryant. He's electric and exactly what our offense needs. He was also a top 5 or top 10 talent that we nearly got in the 20's.

Justin Harper...starting??? If my floor wasn't so dirty, I'd roll on it.

Can't feel anymore dirty than losing to the Steelers in the playoffs again.

It isn't even debatable haha.

To address Ed_Reed20's comment, the thought of Jones slipping has me excited. However, with AJ Green likely going very early (if not at least top 5), I can't see him slipping past 15+ teams that also wanted a big-play Receiver.

Yep. It's really pipe-dream but I'll hold out hope till Goodell calls Julio's name before the Ravens pick. Even though I'm not a big fan of the guy Jonathan Baldwin has serious talent too and could be there when the Ravens pick.

For some reason I'm just not sold on Baldwin yet. Julio Jones has a huge impact on games whether he catches many passes or not. I think we'd have to move up to have any real shot of taking him.

Neither am I. Baldwin is talented but there are a some things I don't like about him.

That's why I like the guy. He's a team player, blocks well, is capable of the spectacular catch and is just dominates people with the ball in his hands.

You're right, the Ravens will likely have to move to snag him.
