John Harbaugh Contract Extension

I just don't want to see the day when Ray and Reed retire. That defense will fall right on its face if Mattison is still running it then.

As for the offense, they need to work on Flacco's throwing power because apparently it hurts TJ's hands/chest....

Really? So the Ravens won't draft any good defensive players between now and the time Ray and Ed walk away and Mattison is completely inept?

Who have they groomed for their replacements? Sure isn't Zibby and Ruki. Still haven't replaced Scott.

And worst case scenario, there is no CBA reached. They get a year older and then bam, 18 game season....

Ray and Ed are students of the game. We need smarter players on defense who can read offenses better. Ngata is a great athlete and will always be great for us but we need a linebacker or Safety to be the general of our defense.

How many young safeties around the NFL period could step in for Ed? Eric Berry and Earl Thomas come to mind but they're first round picks. The primary ways guys who don't have a lot of natural talent improve in the NFL is when they get playing time and neither Zibby or Haruki have got major playing time.

Bart hasn't been fully replaced but again, look who the Ravens have tried to replace him with? Two UDFAs. Both are talented but they were undrafted for a reason.

You don't replace Ray with average players either? Patrick Willis and a few others aside, how many players in the NFL could step in for Ray right now and the Ravens not skip much of a beat on defense?

I agree the team needs smarter players on D. Mike Preston said the exact same thing in his article on how to "fix" the Ravens.

To get those players that are smart AND have talent, you usually have to invest first round picks.

2-3 years is perfect in terms of an extension.

The (bad) news of the day for me is the return of Cam Cameron. Apparently regression is the new advancement. 13th to 22nd with these weapons? Really?

All that came out yesterday was that Harbaugh said Cam would be back. He could still get canned after Harbaugh, Bisciotti and the other team officials meet.

New weapons were acquired but they weren't without flaws, Cam had his issues, so did Joe and o-line regressed as a unit big-time for an number of reasons.

first off, for all the haters on harb, did you forget about the ravens' team before he arrived with the offense that look like dodo birds rather than ravens. At least now the Ravens have a reasonable shot at making the playoffs at years to come.

I don't think Lewis will come back and coach, he's said publicly that he doesn't want to. But I believe coaching is in Ed Reed's future.

The idea of Ed Reed coaching is so exciting, as long as it is for the Ravens and not an opposing team! :o

To be completely fair in regards to Ruki and Zibby they can start two life times and never be the talent that Ed is. Ruki couldn't have played worse in the playoffs. One pick turned fumble, and illegal hands to the face on the infamous 3rd and long. We have a lot of holes to fill.

The way we lost leaves a bitter taste. I'm unhappy with the way they've developed Flacco, who was basically a pawn in Cam's system yet again this season. Also, I'm getting sick of Harbaugh and his positive, can-do attitude. He's gone 1-11 against the 3 best QBs in the AFC (Brady, Manning, Roethlisberger). What are you so proud of? We just blew the season, and he's "happy for the opportunity" and "excited for next season." You don't see Belichick or Tomlin with a corny smirk on their faces after a tough loss.

In his press conference, Harbaugh said that we've outplayed the Steelers most of our games (as if crucial, game-changing errors aren't part of "playing"), and then he went on to talk about stealing fans from other areas to be Ravens fans. Go up to DC, Virginia, just start sapping fans because we're so awesome. I'm getting sick of his arrogance, and his rhetoric in general. He has a lot of learning to do.

Yep. Preston praised Haruki for his effort and hustle on special teams but the man was woeful almost every time he played defense. I tip my hat to him for sacking Ben by himself during the game but the Ravens need to ensure they have four CBs they trust next season if Haruki is brought back so he doesn't play D.

Sure, the loss was tough and I'm still upset about it, but to say they "blew the season" or to call it a wasted season in any way, shape, or form is awfully short-sighted.

Wait, was Joe good enough to be more than a "pawn" his first two seasons? Can you really say he was good enough to be given a lot more control this season? Be honest.

No, you see Belichick give two word answers. Tomlin on ther hand says things like this. Yes, this team is SO much worse because Harbaugh is positive WHEN IN FRONT OF THE MEDIA.

If you lose a hard fought game, then so be it. But when you choke away a 14 point lead with 3 consecutive turnovers, there's nothing to be happy about afterwards. The Ravens blew a golden opportunity to host the AFC Championship, and all they had to do was play a solid 2nd half. Harbaugh should be wondering why our team can't execute with some sort of consistency.

I think Joe might be good enough, but we'll never know unless they allow him to try. Our offense is so boring and predictable, instead of using this as a transition year it feels like they've gone nowhere. Joe is better within the confines of the same system from his first two years.

The Falcons handled Ryan the same way the Ravens did with Joe in '08 and '09. While I feel Ryan is the better player and he might have been given more control than Joe this season, he played on an offense that protected him(interestingly, their running game was identical to the Ravens' in terms of productivity across the board).

Listening to the radio right now, Mike Flynn is addressing the o-line and commenting on how much the o-line's issues hurt the team. He mentioned Joe being very good in play-action, something that could be very effective this year without poor the run productivity was this season. To me, that is obviously the biggest reason the offense took a step back this season.

I disagree Joe was better in '08 and '09 than he was this season. He did next to nothing in '08, took steps forward last season but still did far more this season than his previous two year. The statistics and just watching the game show that.
