Jon Beason?

12 posts in this topic

me and my friend(a panthers fan) where arguing about who is the better mlb ray lewis or jon beason. the fact that we were even having this discussion shows you how much he knows. but it made me wonder, with beason becoming a FA in 2 yrs, and with lewis calling it quits in the next 3 yrs at most, can you see beason as the future leader of this defense?

No, because I don't see the Panthers letting him go. And really, if the Ravens haven't found a capable starting ILB in two years, the front office will have some explaining to do.

Well, first, Ray Lewis is the far superior ILB. That's not even a debate.

Now, we have to re-sign some key players, in house (i.e. Ngata, Wilson, Carr, etc), but I would love to have Beason as a Raven. Would be a great upgrade to our ILB position.

amen, ray lewis is almost 10 yrs older and still had better stats this season, not to mention a better defense to compete tackles with! but agreed beason would be a great fill in for the irreplacable ray ray

idk if there is much the panthers can do to keep him. if he really wants to win he will want to get the h*** outta carolina and what better defensive minded team to come to than baltimore? not to mention if ray ray continues playing that long beason can learn behind the greatest and give ray breaks every once in a while

Superior? Yes. Far superior? In terms of the overall package, leadership and skill set, I agree. But if you're claiming that Beason pales in comparison to Ray when comparing their abilities, I think that's a stretch. There's no denying that Beason has been one of the best LBs in the league ever since his rookie year. Nobody could ever replace Lewis. But I'd love to see Jon in black and purple.

We'll see. In 2012, the Ravens will likely still be paying Suggs and Ngata. Flacco will have likely earned a sizable deal, as will have Rice. I don't want to speculate on cap room but there may not be enough to sign a guy like Beason, who'll be 27. Remember, the Ravens' FA motto is "right player, right price". Beason could get a ton of money from any number of teams if he hits the market in 2012 and the Ravens may not be willing to pursue him.

I don't know if Jon Beason is much inferior to Ray Lewis anymore, if at all. Ray Lewis in his prime, no. But now, I wouldn't be so sure.

Jon Beason is a fantastic player, do not under estimate how good he is. Just saying.

I think we are crazy if Ron Rivera won't make sure to lock him up before next season starts. Beason won't go anywhere, and I think we can find a good young ILB in the draft to start grooming.

Beason and many other Panthers have stated over and over they love Carolina and do not want to leave. The only unhappy Panther is Richard Marshall and that's because of money.

They are good sports. Every player should say that about their prospective employers. They aren't like McClain here for us.
