Anyone Else Questioning The HC Choice

157 posts in this topic

Right i think it is great to have harbs here he is more like a managing hc than a” i call every play HC”
But I think a little more using his position would be great. For example Mattson has developed a totally different system on D we give away a lot more yardege but in the end not a lot more points on The scoreboard so far I fine with that as long as you score more points than the other team you win plain and simple.
But and here comes my problem I miss a development on offence ok joe stats are rising but we still lose to the same teams again and again trick plays like the smith to flaco pass totally banded from the game and only the reverse to #18 is getting easy to read when it is the only gadget play you have.
Same as some personal decisions I don’t understand to let Hamlin go for a fb who was never activated during the span zibby couldn’t go for what 6 games?. Our play calling looks the same nearly every game except the kc game where we run different stuff but against the Steelers we had once again lots of single back formations with extra o linemen there for, it was easy to figure out that we would have a run play on the upcoming snap. So when you have 2 fb’s on the rooster why not use them in short yardage like we did with lo neal it is harder to get a 260 guy down with a inside blocker in his weight class than a 212 guy even when it is ray rice.

Just got a Ravens mobile alert.

Mr. Cass has announced they're still working on Harbs's contract extension and "expect to have it done soon".

Sorry Harbaugh haters. He's staying.

Fine with me. I dont think Johns the problem. His deep seeded loyalties are getting in the way though.

I truly have no problem with Harbaugh, although, I would prefer to have Rex Ryan. I just prefer his mindset. In the NFL, classy doesnt matter, winning does. Rex wins games. Harbaugh does too, but Rex has won bigger games.

I understand about entertainment value and headlines and bravado, but eventually that sort of thing comes to bite people in the butt. Didn't we have problems with throwing flags in the stands and ridiculous amounts of penalties before someone decided to bring some class to the organization?

How do you question a coach that has made the playoffs 3 years in a row when the head coach before him, only made the playoffs every other year? The only thing holding the Ravens back is a particular offensive coordinator that needs to be let go ASAP.

Not me. Football is entertainment at the end of the day. Boxers talk before fights. Its great for business and rivalries.

Braylon's back flip was awesome.

You can trash talk with dignity, class and humor. (Ali)
Rex acts the buffoon.

I will keep saying it until they kick me off of the site. Give Greg Mattison the kind of shut-down corner Revis is and a playmaking backup in Cromartie, sprinkle in a bit of the Jets' offensive line, and we would be playing them next week.

Just give us a better O-line and we would be playing the Jets next week. The biggest problem on offense all season long, besides Cam calling plays, was the O-line. Amazing that we went 12-4 with almost no run game and Flacco being put on his back constantly.

Great responses. I dont want anyone to think im hating on Harbs, the thought just came to me and thought it would make an interesting discussion. Once our offense is too conservative and we dont have anyone to stretch the field, does anyone know why we didnt use stalworth hardly every except on a reverse? Of course im very happy with our production the last three seasons, who would of thought we would have Q and TJ dropp easy catches in clutch moments. If somehow we could sign Nnamdi Aso, think we would easily be back to a shutdown defense with a average offense.

One may say Rex is uncouth and boorish, but has the expertise to win games. It is moot whether his behavior/attitude on the field is unsightly or may cause embarassment, immodest.

We may hold that viewpoint, now, after having lost in play-off series, and will do anything are desperate to take anyother who might bring more positive results.

To that I say, this would follow with much regret. After two to three years, (even winning) behind or represented by someone of less personal character, you may wish to reassess the overall value.

Take measured time, do it right, win and be all the more satisfied.

What was wrong with our starting Cornerbacks?

Their top 2 guys, Hines Ward and Mike Wallace combined for 6 catches for 45 yards and one TD....I was impressed by the starting corners

We should of hired Bill Belichick when the Browns moved to Baltimore. If we are talking in hindsight.

I like Harbaugh .. I question his objectivity in coordinators but he has taken us to the playoffs 3 years out of 3. I'm willing to see where the extension takes us. There are teams that haven't sniffed the playoffs for decades.

That aside, I don't think I could stand to listen to an entire year of Rex Ryan running off at the damn mouth. He never shuts up, even when he gets his head handed to him. Whenever I hear his voice, I flashback to that Star Trek: Undiscovered Country line by McCoy, "I'd give real money if he'd shut up."

I love Rex as a coordinator but not as a HC. I am fine with trash talking Players but not with a trash talking HC. Rex is lucky he can backup his talking this year. 1-2 years without playoffs and he is done in NY.

No, no, and no. I do not want that sort of press for the Ravens, it's exactly what we do not need. Some people act as if Harbaugh is a shoddy coach, which is not the case at all. The man fits the mentality of this team, inspires the team, and has gotten us to the playoffs three years in a row, a winning record for three years in a row, and the best record this team has ever had since McNair came over and we went 13-3.

Those are all steps in the right direction for the future of the team, the only thing that he's baffled me on is his stalwart stance next to Cam. Other than that, he is what this team needed and needs.

As many people have said, John is more of a "Baltimore" type of coach. i know all the players liked Rex and all, but he runs his mouth too much. New York can have him....why is this thread still here anyway?

A ROOKIE head coach (harbs), took a ROOKIE QB (flacco), and a ROOKIE RB (rice), with a so-so secondary, and lackluster weapons on offense the first 2 years, to the playoffs 3 years in a row now.

Idk why people are still doubting John. I was worried when we first started off with him too, but after the first trip to the playoffs and then the 2 years that followed, he has proved to everyone he will be a great HC

No, I think we just need to put our best foot forward and trust in Harbs. No need to question the decision or we'll just be a footstep behind.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with our corners. They're good, but none of them could be called a true number 1, meaning you can leave them to do their own thing without any safety help overtop and pretty much know they're going to shut down their man. Revis is the best in the league, or at worst second to Nnamdi. I repeat: the best in the league. He has proven capable of shutting down just about every wide receiver he faces. More importantly, him earning that reputation all over the league means quarterbacks, even the best, are hesitant to throw in his direction (see Peyton Manning two weeks ago in the WC round). Having a guy like that who every quarterback knows is at least dead even, if not has the outright advantage, over their number one wide receiver makes qbs less likely to test that side of the field, making them use up more time looking for alternatives, and shrinks the field for the defense. The term "island" basically means that Revis can be trusted on every single play to not need safety help, meaning Rex has the privelege of calling all-out and overload blitzes on almost every play if he wants to. More importantly, you brought up Mike Wallace, the few catches he did make were crippling to our chances on Saturday. If we had a guy like Revis covering Wallace, he might not have gotten any catches, which would have changed the game.
