Peta Objects To Using Live Ravens

41 posts in this topic

well Raven Fans it seemed as though all things were going good and well with the Training of 2 Live Ravens to live out of the tunnel after each of our home games, but it appears PETA has other plans on the ordeal.

....... " PETA has sent a letter of protest to Ravens vice president for marketing Gabrielle Dow concerning the team's plan to feature a pair of actual ravens during pre-game player introductions at M&T Bank Stadium during the coming season...."

the letter also stated that ".... The letter cites the "sheer intensity" of a Ravens football game, which proves - at the very least - that Ms. Phelps did not attend last season's game in Miami. She goes on to lecture the team on the potential negative consequences for the performing birds if they are placed in a stadium environment.

"[The] bright lights, screaming fans, and loud noises - such as air horns, bands, and amplified sound systems - are terrifying for animals who can't possibly understand what is going on," the letter goes on. "Regardless of how these birds are trained, they are likely to be severely distressed by the overwhelming confusion of the situation."

so with all this said, i must ask PETA, what about the Seahawks? why do they get to have Live birds fly out for their introductions at home games. and i have to put it out there in a Blantent and demading manner. WHY CANT WE?!?!?!?! we're not harming the birds we're training them. we're not killing the birds we'll love them. so i say again, WHY?????

I definitely don't want this to turn into a political discussion so we all have to be very careful here, but PETA is well-known for protesting just about everything and usually being ignored.

PETA is just nit-picking at this point. Trained animals are used all the time all over the place. They get treated better then any other animals. Yes they can't live in the wild, but they will certainly live longer. I mean I hit a bird this morning on the way to work, the closest our ravens will ever come to a car is their ride to the stadium.

Why does anyone even listen to these PETA hippies? Who are they? Get a real job, stop complaining. This isn't about PETA trying to protect animals, they just want to show the world that they have some sort of power. There are a billion baby seals and whales getting killed each day, do something about that and stop complaining about a stupid bird getting the opportunity to fly accross our stadium 8 times a year. I guess they'd rather see him in a cage for 30 years until the bird dies. What's wrong with these people?

Thats very true. PETA im sure protests all live mascots. I'm sure this wont effect the Ravens Take on flying the birds

The Naval Academy trots a goat onto the field before every game. The Air Force Academy has a live falcon. The University of Colorado has a real buffalo.

U_THIN~1.GIF Makes one wonder, don't it? PETA must have a ton of Steeler and Brown fans.......because I never read anything about them complaining about those other animals.....

I remember reading that PETA wanted teams to not only stop using animals as mascots, but also in their team names. No Baltimore RAVENS, no Denver BRONCOS, no Detroit LIONS, etc. Apparently, they feel it objectifies animals or something and encourages abusive behavior - like training them to be live mascots.

The Ravens would be better served by ignoring the whole thing.

Responding to PETA only gives them credibility - which is more than they deserve.

PETA is trying to make something out of nothing . Probably to be followed up with a fundraising campaign.

They should feed the Ravens scraps of raw meat during the game from a very large bucket that reads: FORMER PETA PROTESTING IDIOTS

Haha, I'm not sure if any of you read Schmuck's article link but this portion I found amusing

from the article :

""The bright lights, screaming fans, and loud noises - such as air horns, bands, and amplified sound systems - are terrifying for animals who can't possibly understand what is going on," the letter goes on. "Regardless of how these birds are trained, they are likely to be severely distressed by the overwhelming confusion of the situation."

To which, I have to ask, why should they be any different than Kyle Boller?

(OK, that was a little mean-spirited, but you were all thinking the same thing, and Kyle is a fun guy who likes a good laugh as much as anyone, so I'm pretty sure he'll still talk to me during training camp.)"

LOL

Last time I checked air horns are not allowed in the stadium. Don't the Dolphins have a dolphin in a tank in an endzone? They need to protest something I guess.

Why not just protest everything?? I mean we also eat hot dogs, burgers, chicken, etc. Maybe we shouldn't be allowed to eat anything either... I think Mr. Bisciotti needs to go all vegetarian for our menu in the stadium so PETA will get off our backs, because we all know how influential they are :P

PETA=Joke

actually that was pretty slick if you ask me. i just made an awesome allusion to a witty satirical/cynical writer while simultaneously bashing PETA.

its even funnier that people actually picked up on the fact that it was Maddox. i had a feeling at least one other person on this board would understand what i meant and find it funny.

but seriously, eat animals. theyre tasty.
