Al Davis Fined Tom Cable Regularly

8 posts in this topic

Al Davis does not deserve to own an NFL team anymore. He lost that qualification years ago, but never more than after this bit of news broke. (LINK)

Apparently, Davis had been fining Tom Cable for undisclosed reasons on a regular basis, removing $20,000 from Cable's paychecks until he totaled $120,000. All this while Cable was trying to lead the Raiders to the playoffs. If this was some sort of sick method of motivation, it clearly didn't work, even though Cable managed to lead the team to its first non-losing record since 2002.

I am disgusted.

It sucks because nothing can really be done. It would be sweet if the NFL could step in. But that's the last thing the owners want from their pet, the ability to do it.

The case is going to arbitration right now, but you're right, nothing can be done to take away the Raiders from Al Davis.

Wow... he needs to be removed from ownership ASAP. That is just wrong. I'm looking at the Raiders Free Agency list and man the Raiders are going to sink to the bottom because who will want to come back to this team, look at this list:

TE Zach Miller
DE Richard Seymour
LB Thomas Howard
CB Nnadmi Aso
SS Tyvon Branch

Those are just key players for the Raiders... we'll finally be able to see talented players possibly go on better teams for once(the exception being Seymour since he just joined the Raiders). To be honest, if Seymour hit Free Agency, I would love Ozzie to pick up the phone and bring in Seymour to fix our defensive line. We know their Punter spoke out against Al and firing Cable so he's probably gone. The NFL should just let every Raider hit Free Agency so the 31 other teams can pick them up.

As idiotic as this is, it's not surprising coming from Al Davis. I cannot remember the last time anyone could honestly say that Davis was qualified to not only own a team, but in any way, shape, or form be allowed to make personnel decisions. If something were to be done about Davis, the Raiders might actually be on the way to being a winning team on a regular basis...

It probably went something like this.

Davis: JaMarcus Russell is a great player. If he's not performing, it must be Cable's fault. Fine him.

Davis: Heyward-Bey is awesome. He's 2 times the player Cliff Branch was, because he has rockets in his shoes. If he can't catch perfectly thrown balls, it must be Cable's fault. Fine him.

Davis: Okay, I'm sick of the Cable guy. But, he won't leave. I must find a way to make him miserable so he quits. Fine him.

Davis is still back in the 60's and 70's He thinks Stabler is still his QB and the Stork and Ben Davidson are on defense.
