Flacco Vs. Roethlisberger

39 posts in this topic

All ESPN annalists say as long as it's Flacco vs. Roethlisberger we'll never win.

But Joe doesn't play Ben, HE PLAYES THE STEELERS D. So I just want to say that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

Whatever, that's why they play the game. Never is such a strong world. The Giants were never going to be able to stop the Pats perfect season. And like you said, it ain't QB vs QB.

Last time I checked, Big Ben hasn't been the greatest play against us the past two years.

You are missing the point. What they are saying is that Ben seems to always make the plays, and Flacco doesn't.

ESPN says a lot of things. If the analyst you're referring to was Keyshawn, Cris Carter, Skip Bayless, Mike Ditka, or any other delusional, old fart then dismiss it.

But who was Roethlisberger throwing against? It sure as heck wasn't Joe Flacco. Our secondary let a 60-yard bomb slip through in the 4th quarter, not our QB.

I think the difference is that Ben takes his team down the field with GW drive most of the time.

Flacco has only done it once, and that was with the assistance of no offense from them since Ben wasn't playing.

Its not really Ben vs. Flacco. Its really who will make the play at the end, and more times than not, its Ben.

Uh oh, Steelers fans have arrived.

Well, next week a thread like this will appear on the Steelers board. Except, it'll be Roethlisberger vs. Brady. :Sports_sport04:

That's awesome.

When Joe threw a pass to his WR in the end-zone with around 3 minutes(I forget) remaining, he dropped it. When Ben launched a pass down the field on 3rd and a mile, his WR caught it. He didn't make the play by himself.

Yep you are right, and Flacco had an opportunity to do the same to the Steelers D after that, and did not.

The bottom line though is that it is always a QB against a QB because the offensive plays start with the QB. Just like in baseball it is always pitcher vs pitcher.

Exactly. All players need to make plays in order to win these games.

No he did not, but the play started with him, not the receiver. The receiver got behind Webb, Ben still had to make a good throw.

Roethlisberger had the fumble returned for a TD, and Flacco had the early drive down field just like Ben did. In the end, Ben heaved it up and found his guy. Flacco threw a TD to Heap, Boldin should have caught another one. Flacco also threw a bad interception to Heap, and then a stupid fumble. Obviously Ben is better.

Had his receivers not dropped on-target, key passes in crunch time, we may be singing a different tune.

And QB may be the most important position but, ignored by lazy fans and broadcasters, the other 10 guys on his side of the field matter too. As well as the 11 they go up against.

But then Housh dropped the pass. Flacco will beat Ben one of these days, you can't say it will never happen. Ben obviously has a significant edge.

I wouldn't say "never" because Ben is going to get old and slow just like every other human being and those concussions might start to catch up with him too. However, it does seem as though Baltimore is determined to lose to Steelers, and Colts, and Patriots for the time being.

You will get no argument from me on this, but if Ben underthrows the pass it may get picked, then Webb is a hero instead of a goat. The success of that play depended on two things, Brown getting behind Webb, mission accomplehed, but if Ben does not put the ball on target, then it would not matter how open Brown was.

That's fantastic, Ben Roethlisberger made a good throw - so did Flacco.

True, it was a great pass. Flacco underthrows those sometimes. He's got his own style, that can only be described as resilient. Some luck doesn't hurt either, like the Dolphins/Bills games this season. I guess we had our share of luck too, but home field advantage and a bye week was just too much to overcome. The Steelers expected to win this game, for good reason.

Flacco gets a lot of bad press but he's good. It's not his fault the receivers don't catch the balls. His bad decisions are, yes. Last time I checked, Peyton Manning had receivers drop the balls and nobody is saying he is inept as far as I know.

Yes he did, every successful pass play depends on four things, a good throw, an open receiver, a receiver catching the ball and some luck.

Flacco hit TJ in the numbers, he dropped it, but it still goes as an incompleted pass for Flacco. It doesn't hurt TJ any, just Flacco as far as statistics are concerned.

Flacco is a good quarter back. Is he is not in the same class as Brady, Manning, or even Big Ben, but he is just good. Can he scramble and hit people in stride? Sometimes. Does he make bad passes and have mental errors in critical times? sure. The big question is can we win a super bowl with him? Only if we have a super dominant defense AND running game. He's not good enough to do it without a lot of help.

Well, it could hurt TJ in the fact that he may not get a job here next year... But, besides that, you're right - the national media and the casual fan will look at Flacco's statline and say something both incorrect and unfounded. That's their prerogative.

I would not say that Ed Reed is just average.
[/quote]

He's pretty average when they don't throw his way  good times.

Flacco did some good things today, I just watched the highlights. It looks like he wasn't expecting the snap on the fumble, which is bad. I'm not sure whose fault it was. Webb returned the punt for a TD, I can't believe they called that hold. And then Flacco hit Boldin for the TD that was dropped. Just poor execution all around.

Yes yes and yes.....On the fumbled snap, Flacco was signaling a motion with his leg at the exact time of the snap (not normal and certainly a miscue) and Birk hit his own thigh with the ball, ugh!

Wish Jonathan Coachman knew that. "Perfect snap, Flacco just dropped it." Really?
