Something To Ponder

Here is something to Ponder. The Steelers and the Ravens are probably the two most physical teams in the NFL. The only other team I can think of that ever matched the intensity of these games is the Raiders of the 70's, those games were brutal and maybe that is where the problem for the Raven's lie when it comes to the Steelers.

Think about it, since the 70's the coaches have been Noll, Cowher, and Tomlin. That is only three coaches, and even though the 70's were a long time ago, it is not that far removed from the coaches or the front office. What this translates to is the fact the Steelers know how to win these games, but the Ravens are still learning, especially in post season games where the intensity is magnified.

There's really nothing to ponder. The Steelers are an amazing organization and their success is obvious. The Ravens, for all the relative success they've had since being an expansion team, are really only now successfully building for the long-term very much in the mold of the Steelers.

Tonight's loss was very painful and I hope the younger players use it as fuel and develop the hunger necessary to win trophies(like the Steelers).

Thanks for being consoling instead of obnoxious, we appreciate it. The Steelers are an extremely good organization, definitely the best franchise of the last 6 years. They do have decades of experience running an organization, and to have only three coaches in that time period is incredible (and it looks like Tomlin will be there for a long, long time). Their front office has definitely built up some wisdom.

Mistakes are not always bad, if you learn from them. Losing is the same way. Sure it stings to lose, but if you can learn from those losses, then it's not so bad. I think the Ravens are learning from the losses to the Steelers, but they are still lagging behind the steelers because of inexperience in these types of games. Playing your best game in the playoffs is not enough, you have to play like there is no tomorrow, because there isn't.

The Steelers and the Raiders beat the living tar out of each other in the 70's, and the Steelers learned some valuable lessons. Lesson one is that the game is not over until the clock in the 4th quarter goes to 0:00. Lesson two is that in post season, you never ever go conservitive, no matter how many points you are up. The Ravens are still relatively new when you compare them to the other teams in the league, they will get there, though and as shocking as it may be, it will be the Steelers who help them get there.

As true as this may be, your timing on giving a Ravens message board a history lesson is not so welcome, it becomes gloating after awhile.

No, no, not gloating at all. I am actually responding to those who insist on blaming the coaches and even Flacco for costing the Ravens the game. I just don't buy that, especially about Flacco.

I thought it was interesting today when discussing the game with my sons, one of them said the Ravens need to get Mike Tomlin if they can. :)

You guys may be consoling me in the coming weeks. I think we can, or at least should, whoop the Jets, but I don't think anyone can beat these Packers right now.

Well i will hold tru to my word an root for the steelers since were out. Bring the Superbowl home to the AFC north.

Other fans can deny all they want but Cam an Mattison dont know how to coach with a lead. Mattison gets a break cuz its only his 2nd year but Cam has been here long enough time to move on. Mattison better never send 3 on blitz anymore or rush the house when they need more then 10 yards an he will be fine.

I think the result of the game should be no surprise to anyone.
The only change we need to make is to come out in the 2nd half
with the same intensity as when we start a game. The same prob
the whole season.
The Steelers did not beat the Ravens, they won the game.
My Ravens are the best, the old and the new.
We need to finish off ALL our opponents, regular season or playoffs.
If the coaches need to learn one thing in the off season-
teach the players to FINISH, no matter what the score is.

I think you will beat the Jets. The Jets know the Patriots better than anybody else. I knew they might be able to pull this one off. But the Pats defense is no Steelers defense. The Steelers will make Sanchez feel the heat and the Steelers won't make boneheaded aggressive coaching calls like Bill did yesterday.

The Steelers are headed to another Superbowl. But your right about Green Bay. Luckily for you guys they'll have to get past a tough divisional game as well.

Come on NFC. You have to be our saving grace for us ailing Ravens fans.

Agreed...I do not see them losing in Chicago...Cutlerhad a good game against a team who showed us who they really are. Your game might be a "photo finish"

The ONLY thing about the Jets that worries me is their DB's ability to get away with mugging WR's (since we're discussing flags/no flags).

If they can't get away with that, we can crush them.

I don't mind telling you though, the Packers scare me. Rodgers is a beast at QB and Mathews is a beast at OLB.

Those who picked the Packers in the pre season to get to the Super Bowl may just be geniouses after all.

Not really. It was an easy pick back then. Considering what they've over come to get here, makes their players and coaching staff geniuses though. lol

Actually, Turn Coat is the dope over at WNST who has decided to root for the Jets this weekend after the Ravens lost. But that's just my opinion ;)

lol. Personally, I think a Ravens fan rooting for the Jets is forgivable. They're Ravens North, like the Cardinals are Pittsburgh South.
