[Blogs] Housh On Drop: It’s Like It’s Not Real

140 posts in this topic

Wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh said it felt like he was dreaming.

He couldn’t remember ever dropping a pass like he did on the Ravens’ final offensive play of the 2010 season.

“When the game is on the line, I want my number to be called and it was,” Houshmandzadeh said. “And I didn’t catch it. That’s just basically the moral of the story, the outcome of the game, really.”

The Ravens’ gaffes didn’t stop at the end of the third quarter. Baltimore’s wide receivers Anquan Boldin and Houshmandzadeh each had costly drops in the fourth quarter.

Boldin’s drop in the end zone meant the Ravens had to settle for a game-tying field goal with three minutes, 54 seconds left in regulation.

The 6-yard pass from Flacco was low and away from Pittsburgh safety Ryan Clark. It was just over the goal line, but bounced off Boldin’s numbers.

“I tried to come up with it,” Boldin said. “It was low. It was a tough play. It was a low ball.”

Boldin was largely taken out of the game by the Steelers. He had five targets but only one reception for minus-2 yards.

Houshmandzadeh’s drop on fourth-and-18 would have given the Ravens a first down and put them within striking distance of a game-tying touchdown on their final drive.

Houshmandzadeh, who made three catches for 38 yards, said he jumped to catch the ball and was indecisive on whether to reach out and catch it with his hands or take it into his body.

“It’s unbelievable,” Houshmandzadeh said. “I would bet every dollar I have that I make that [catch].

“I’ve always made that play. I’ve always wanted that play. Wow. It’s almost like it’s not real.”

Nice way to blame Joe Anquan!! The ball hit you right between the numbers...you should have caught it!! Ozzie...please sign a REAL # 1 receiver. Boldin needs to be in the slot or something. # 2 WR at best

Hey TJ...do us all a favor...IF you do come back next season, quit whining about not getting the ball your way. You had it your way and you gave up on it with the indecisiveness.

I hope Housh comes back for next year. We lost the game well before his drop, in fact we gave them the game just like last month. Horrible and totally disappointing!

Anquan, the ball was low because that's where Joe needed to put it. Get open some times and you'll have easier passes. Bottom line, its a playoff game and you should've caught it with your hands. You should apologize to Joe for that one. Joe, you're not off the hook by any means. Throw the ball Joe! Your fans will still love you if you miss the throw sometimes, bit we get nothing when you're indecisive and hold the ball. Secondary, who let's someone get behind them on 3rd and 19? Shameful. Reed, Suggs, Ngata, Lewis Bmore will always love you. Mattison & Cameron, you both need to go. Worst second half of coordinating I've ever witnessed. You both suck.

You made your "dollar" whether you caught it or not... the theme was "just do our jobs"... some didn't... a VERY big disappointment to say the least. Hope management will clean house.

HURT better yet aggravated . I felt so good in the 1st half and then

Next year right. There was no reason for this, there was no reason in all the other games that we lost our composure in the 2nd half either but at least we were not sent HOME with our tails between our legs saying NEXT YEAR. Suggs you are fantastic, I wish offense was drinking the same kind of stuff you were drinking. Oh thats right NEXT YEAR!

Our wide receivers had a bad game. I'm sad about it, life will suck until after the Steelers loose, but it wasn't all their fault. The refs helped them, and Joe made a couple of screw ups. What we need is to get Asumough, and draft a rookie center, like Mike Pouncey, the Steelers center's brother, to make sure we have a young center for the future, let Gaither, Foxworth, and Harewood get healthy and be ready cause our team is going to only get better each year, until Ray finally decides to stop playing and be the Defensive coordinator. Other then Center we could use a SPEED corner that can stick with Wallace, and a wide receiver that has more speed to get open more.

Housh was mis used all year, then when we need him most he disappoints all of us. It looked to me like he totally threw that ball to the ground on purpose. Once a bungle always a bungle?

The throw to Boldin was exactly where it needed to be. We needed to get points on the board there of some kind to at least tie the game and force OT, which meant ball security. Throw it low and away from the DBs where only the WR has a chance at the ball. It hit Boldin's hands and his chest and he simply failed to bring the ball in. It was a perfect throw without the corresponding catch.

The throw to Housh was also right on the money, and he dropped it. Housh had come up big for the Ravens a couple of times earlier in the night, and I was very surprised he dropped it. Mostly, all three of our top wideouts have great hands, and those drops were uncharacteristic. Still, they have got to make those catches.

Both were thrown perfectly. The WRs just couldn't come up with the play.

Q, you arrogant SOB. HOW about saying Joe put it right where it needed to be and I just didn't make the play. Maybe a sorry to the Ravens fans, maybe AZ was right to dump you.... BTW, I HAVE A PURPLE 81 jersey..... if you want it back, I leave it in the endzone. : P. LOL.

Ravensfan545 said it best. This was a perfect end to a suspect year. The offense never clicked. When you blow out teams that aren't relevant, a la the Chiefs, it doesn't matter. There needs to be some major changes: Joe "Cracko" Flacco falls apart under pressure. He will NEVER be a good QB in this league until he develops a KILLER INSTINCT! Ben has been successful not because he's fancy or throws for 400 yards per game; he gets it done, good, bad or indifferent. The defense, though not 100% stellar, played a solid game, but they were gutted after the turnovers by the offensive offense.

I've been behind Flacco from day one this season. I gave him the benefit of the doubt when they were barely winning since a win is a win. But you have to man up when it's time to play--plain and simple. Thank you for catapulting the Steelers on to SB ring #7.

Just an idea... but perhaps if Flacco threw to someone other than Rice or Heap during the season, then maybe, JUST MAYBE... Boldin and Housh wouldn't be cold and rusty. Perhaps they wouldn't be caught completely shocked and in awe that a pass in finally coming their way.

And guys, it's no use arguing with Steelers fans. They are delusional and honestly believe they were "the better team" and that they are just amazing and absolutely dominated that game, and that the officials did not factor in the outcome at all.

Bottom line Ravenstown should be celebrating right now into tomorrow. That game should of been won, people talk about Flaco (although he did lose it there for a min) but what about when he throws the ball right in to receivers hands and they just drop it. Oh the gloating I am going to have to sit through. I love my Ravens no matter what dont get me wrong but I really wanted to see us at the superbowl.
