Barnes Testing Himself For Bigger Role

92 posts in this topic

Hed probably give us a good starting position just by seeing Barnes on the field.. :)

LOL

Can you believe he got hate mail, for that? He was just taking a free shot. Dude shouldn't have left himself open like that. Oh, and did you here the announcer talk all that crap about Barnes after that. That's wrong, announcers shouldn't take sides like that, but hey, this is the Ravens we're talking about, nobody respcts them.(check out the thread: ESPN's take on the Ravens)

the fact that he even made any sort of reference of our players let alone our defense, says alot about his true character, dont get me wrong, while he was a good player while he was in Baltimore, he surely isnt the player that he was while he was here, like i have said before, a part of AD still is here, that being Rex Ryan, the Man who Set A.D. up and put him in the best situations to excel and thrive in.

Barnes has that "A.D." type quality of versitility while out there on the football field. and even though he is only a second year player and is one year removed from being a "rookie" the steps he has taken to insure is overall success, both on a individualistic as well as Team stand point, is really what is seperating himself from thr rest as compared to the rest of the second year NFL players.

Barnes is the type of player in which has the quick learning ability to learn on the go, and adjust to the surroundings accordingly, thus meaning, he is always an Active Contributor to the Success of this Defense.

His quickness and speed, along with his versitility, and pure power, i think is what has many many people not worrying about losing any sort of step when saying "can Barnes fill A.D.'s shoes?" the answer to that is very very simple.......yes, and as of right now, at this point in time, you can really see the work and dedication he is putting forth, paying off for him, his teammates and coaches really feel as though if he continues to better himself the way he is right, you can surely be on the look out for Barnes being a powerhouse contributor, with the versitility to move around from position to position with relative ease.

many people in Baltimore were worried about having a equal if not better replacement for the loss of A.D......... well the answer seems to be apparent in Barnes. and if you would have to ask me, Barnes just seems to be the better athlete, because of the steps Barnes is taking thus far in the season as well as this early on in his career, while it took AD at least a couple of seasons before getting his name out there, and getting his name "known" around the NFL. So to say who exactly is the best, for dead certainy, is that of the young, talented, versitle Barnes is the better of the 2 players, is a little "too ahead of myself" here but by the way he is taking his role, and learning in stride, along with his athletic talent....i think its a pretty good indication that he will certainly be a even match, if not become better than that of A.D. was.

Common! Adalius Thomas played long enough and he was worth more than the Ravens could pay one player and stay under the cap. He deserved a big payday for what he had contributed. No way do I think AD disrespected our team or any one individual. I'll allways be a fan of AD no matter where he plays. I would like to extend a "Thanks AD" for what he gave us. A real class act.

Yeah, he sure proved his worth in New England last year. <_<

He should have avoided all the questions about the Ravens. He's a hypocrit. He talks about how New England has such a team oriented atmosphere and there are no players trying to draw attention to themselves, like the Ravens defensive players do. But then dude is wearing freaking sunglasses, in doors when he's doing his introduction to the final game of the Pats season. He's a hypocrit.

bleh. Let him go on in being the hypocrite that he is. We have someone who is younger and could turn out far better then he ever was here. So what if A.D. was contending for DPOY. His years in the NFL are limited now due to his old age.

Yeah Barnes is a good player primed to fill AD's shoes. I'm looking fwd to seeing how well Prescott Burgess improved over the off season as well. Those 2 tore it up last pre-season although Barnes might be a couple steps ahead of Burgess i think burgess is an up and comer as well. I also cain't wait for Mike Smith to get healthy again, he's a crazy person out there.

when have we ever seen mike smith playing?

I was talking about pre season the only action he got. Yeah Yeh pre season is pre season but his special teams play would be killa if he was healthy. He has an incredible motor and we haven't kept him around for nothing. Hes one of those unknown players you route for to make the team. We all have them do act like you dont

With all the young linebackers we've brought in and a maybe healthy Dan Cody, Smith might get the short end of the stick.

since 05' M. Smith only played in 14 games with 1 start, but at 6'1 240 he adds good depth for S. Teams also.

Thanks for looking that up I would have gave him less games than that. I think a healthy smith could be a special team main stay

Unfortunatly you might be right on this one, Cody looks like he might not get hurt this yr BUT its still early. With smith hurt his days as a raven are short.

I really enjoy smiths play though

Seriously! when did this guy play? I'd like to see some tape on him. You're making him sound like the second coming of Ray Lewis.

With this LB corps, Smith and Cody are holding on by a hangnail. Truth be told, both may not be on the roster at the end of the preseason.

Year before last he saw major pre-season time cuz of corse ray only plays like 10 downs a game. But there ws one play that stands out like crazy where he sacks the qb (ala arrington @ penn), which sold me on him plus he had like 5 tackles or better in most of them.

Ray he is not but fun to watch surley he is. Tape would be difficult to find.

He gave me a reason to watch a whole pre season game.

Well Cody is on the d-line so his chances are better than smiths

I heard he was being used on the d-line but that he was still a linebacker

I can believe it. They should USE his behind at tight end too saftey shoot why not at return man. To increase his chances to actually make the team and not be hurt. lol

All the LBs that play during the pre-season are going to have a harder time making the roster let alone making it as ST. I can name 5 LBs off the top of my head that will get game time during the season. Also a couple that will be on ST. So that means someones going to be getting the short end of the stick.

Good list Remember Cody could be listed as D-line we are thinner there

I doubt it because they could put Jones, Burgess, or Barnes there as well.

you can bet that there will be a high intense feeling of competitiveness once Training Camp starts, and as many of would like to say "oh this player will surely make it, no doubt about it" type of deal, Harbaugh has continually stressed that Its an "Open competition" with no player on the team for dead certain.

That way there is no loss in the competitiveness, desire to play/start, Drive to win, drive to dominate. there will be alll of this and much much more, which Harbaugh continually stressing this issue and simple yet strategic Plan. It is designed to bring out the absolute best, of each and every single player on the team/field.

It's Designed to bring out the competitive desire, and will to win all within a structured, Team-oriented foundation.

BTW, did anyone see Gary's "wired" game from last season?

It's against the Bengals, I highly recommend it. At some points you see him getting triple-teamed on special teams, he's just that good of a player. I didn't really realize why he was considered one of the best special teams players until I watched it, he makes a huge impact, even if he's just getting blocked lol

I'd rather see a healthy Cody than Jones and have barnes and burgess standing. although jones had a good day against mia but i digress it was mia

Jones and Barnes is showing potential. Jones could take over for Pryce when he retires as Barnes could be given a bigger role as LB.
