The Punt Return

86 posts in this topic

It was a blown call technically BUT with playing with poor technique(hands outside of the framework) he made himself vulnerable for a lametard official to "think" he saw "something" . If you stay inside of the shoulders you don't get the call.

It wasnt a hold, it was a legit pancake. That cost us a few minutes of time and 4 points. The defensive holding gave the steelers a fresh set of downs to score, the missed headbutt was another 15 yard and potential ejection. The late hits may have been 45 yards worth (though they got one of them after the steelers last touchdown), they missed a lot of holding calls (but I'm sure that goes both ways)

But giving up a 3rd and 19 was our fault. So was the fumbles and interception.

The refs were a much greater factor in our lost then I'd like. Remember the no call last week when the chiefs player was ripping todd's helmet off.

Just further emphasizes the importance of winning those regular season games against crappy teams like Cincinnati. If that game is played in Baltimore, that MIGHT just get the officials to swallow their whistles for at least ONE play that they would normally cheat the Ravens on.

And if the defense honestly thinks they play better on the road because the home crowd is "too loud for them" then just tell us to be quiet and we will. Honestly, I had a feeling it was going to end like this that day the Ravens lost to the Bengals AGAIN. Oh, and then that game against the Patriots... yeah. Sadly, we won't know what could have been if the Ravens played at home. But I have a feeling that if they don't get off to a fast start next season, there will be more boooooing in the stadium than past years. People won't forget the way this season ended very easily.

It's always the refs that lose the game for you guys. Not the fumble, not the interception, not the dropped passes. Boo hoo the refs gave it to the Steelers, you should be embarrassed.

Tell em, tough guy. LOL.

Absolutely horrible call. Arms out in front within his shoulders, no way! That and that BS def holding call supports conspiracy theory. You hate to make excuses but in tight games, these are big issues.
I love the ravens but please stop blaming the refs. The refs didn't drop balls when it counted and they didn't through interceptions. Stop the whining please! We lost because we did not execute when it matters plain and simple. The steelers have two super bowls in the last 5 years and we have none.Ben is 6-0 against us and you want to blame the refs. If you want to complain, complain about execution. If we catch the balls we win, but we don't so we lost. Don't be a big cry baby, take it like a man and pray they get get it right next season.

That was an incredibly easy hold call for the refs to make. And they should make those type of calls when they see it. Often time it is the lateness of the calls that can be upsetting. The refs really are not the issue with this game.

As a Ravens fan, thank you for posting this. It was a hold and really, it should have been a big deal had Boldin caught the ball that hit him in the chest several moments later.

That was a block! You can't call him on that. What's wrong with these refs? That was a big issue, I can't believe the refs called that. If they didn't, we could've won the game. And Q's dropped pass, was that just me or was there pass interference right there?

Absolute garbage flag, but that was only one of the garbage flags of the night. I'm really beginning believe that the NFL decides (during playoffs)who advances and who doesn't based on market value. Let's face it, Pittsburgh is a much bigger market and has a much larger fan base than we do. In games that are always close, as Balt/Pitt always are, the officials can influence the outcome and often times do!!!

Nothing went right for us in the second half. Penalties, turnovers, dropped passes, not blitzing on 3rd and and 20. I didn't agree with this call, but Boldin should've caught the TD pass a few plays later.

I am no sore loser, but this was a big flag because it takes the ravens from winning by 4 and Pittsburgh having pressure on them and having to go the distance of the field. To a tie game and Pittsbugh looking the put the game away. Horrible call and i can't stand the refs for that, But nothing good comes from cheaters you will regret that im sure.

LMAO this kind of post makes me laugh. Sorry, not disrespect but it does and here is why.

Contrary to popular belief, refs are not paid off. You are aware of the fact the Steelers were penalized for 93 yards and the Ravens only 70 aren't you.

Secondly, the Ravens were up 21-7 at half time, if anything that call, (which was bad I admit) should have been icing on the cake for the Ravens, NOT a game changer.

Wow, were did that guy get that picture! That angle pretty much tells it all and puts this thread to bed.

You can see that Allen was obviously trying to turn to the outside if you look at the angle of his legs which have already taken a new pursuit path but he can't turn his upper body because of the hold.

Thanks for the picture. And that was a tough one, I can imagine how much it stings so I do empathize with you fans over this one.

Till next year.

Flacco is the future QB... he has improved every year in some way..... Unless we land someone like Andrew Luck (which would take a horrible year ) Flacco is the guy... He doesn't play as terrible as people make it to be.. He does overthrow guys at times, but in this game it was the steelers defense that rattled him......

Flacco needs to learn that throwing the ball away is better than taking a SACK... He holds the ball too long and he oftens creates sacks on himself because he fails to get rid of the ball quick enough.... If you cannot make at least one would be sacker miss you with pocket awareness then you must get rid of the ball....

Many Analyst say every week " Flacco has a great deep ball!" But I believe he just throws the ball very far, not necessarily accurate down the field.. So I think he needs to watch plenty of footage this offseason, see & recognize his own errors and correct them.

Flacco needs to get enough reps and game footage in the offseason so that he can improve his pocket awareness, and his deliver speed of passes because he needs to get the ball out of hands quicker...

Whatever WRs we have on the roster for next year he needs to be working them all offseason so that our offense has better timing.. We had mixed offense line all year and yet we continued to work these long developing routes that got Flacco sacked

I mean its ok that you laugh i like it, but there is a clear line to the super bowl and they games are pre determined. Let me ask you this then why don't yall ever cry about calls? Oh that's right because you never get them called on you. That one call was terrible that's it just enough to change the outcome. Enjoy the win though it will be short lived or maybe yall win the super bowl. Either way i don't care they cheated to give it to you so what did you really win Good luck though.

Ha, now it's funny how your attitude changes from "it wasn't a penalty and it was a dive" to, "Oh, why do we get these called against us, I wish they'd just let them play"

And just so you know that these kinda plays Don't happen all game long. When a player gets his arms outside his shoulder, its almost always a penalty. There is clutching when you stay within the shoulders but with his arm extended like that, its a very very obvious call and the correct one at that.

It happened right in front a ref who had a clear view of the penalty. The initial replay on TV showed the play from the opposite side (facing Smith).

But it happened right in front of where the play was being made by Webb. It's a call that could go either way.

Did you see that one ref, yank that ball out of Rice's hand? Unbelievable. And that other ref, perfect timing threw his flag up, defelected the pass from Flacco and we got the interception. Also loved the strength of those refs knocking the ball out of Boldins hands and T.J's to seal the game.

I don't like a lot of calls the refs make, but a good team over comes them and don't cry about them. This year has been the worst year of officiating I can ever recall, but crap happens and you deal with it the best you can. If you are up 21-7 and lose, that is not on the refs, especially when you have -4 yards in a quarter.

Most of here can agree that we lost the game because of our own poor performances, and the refs had very little to do with it. The penalty on the punt return was a head scratcher, because Smith just did an excellent job of knocking his man to the ground, which maybe prompted them to consider it holding since it's not common to see a back-up WR execute a block with that amount of success. But Boldin still dropped the surefire TD. You guys outplayed us in the Second Half, there's no question about it. But the penalty was uncalled for, in my opinion.

I am not disagreeing with you about the penalty, but that had nothing to do with the Ravens losing, they had already lost it. Being up 21-7 at half time, that play when it happened should have been a non issue.

Did you see me say anything about it directly impacting the loss? I just said that we dropped a TD pass on the same drive. I even began with saying that we lost because we made mistakes with no help from the officials. I know there can be some misunderstandings on these forums, but I'm not sure I could've been any clearer.
