Dawan Landry Complaints

37 posts in this topic

I've heard people say that he should be cut and that he sucks and misses too many tackles. That to me is just a snap judgement made in the heat of the emotions that the game brings out in us. Every year Dawan has been towards to top of the leading tacklers, he's our big hitter back there at safety with Reed being more the playmaker.

My opinion on my maybe Landry goes for tackles differently is because of his injury. Maybe it's still in the back of his mind so he tries to avoid making certain hits or tries to go in safer and it doesnt always work out. Some of his attempts at tackles are just poor and that can be corrected, WRAP UP!!!!

He hasn't been getting the INTs he was earlier in his career but he's got a little ballhawk in him and he showed a little bit of that int he Kansas City game.

I say lay off the man, he put his life on the line for this team and he deserves our respect.

I think that Landry makes solid decisions but some of his tackles have been dreadful. He tries to make arm tackles and gets blown by. Your right, he does make a lot of good tackles and overall he is solid. But in the NFL, you can't have bad form ever when you tackle. But overall Landry is a solid player. I doubt he will be a pro bowler, but you can't have pro bowlers in every position. Sometimes you need solid players.

Landry doesn't have many missed tackles anymore. It's just the few he does are glaring (like the Steeler TD). He's still 3rd among all DBs this year in tackles. He comes up big a lot in stopping the run. The chemistry he has with Ed (not just lateralling) is too important for us to get rid of him. They're partners in crime.

I'm totally with you. I've never figured out why people around here are so hard on him. As you said, he is always close to the top in tackles, and he is incredible in the run support. Here is a link of a video I saw about him and just how good/underrated he is. Now I won't deny he misses his fair share of tackles, but I would trade a missed tackle here and there for the consistency he shows in the run support.

Scrock, he made a great play Saturday, but do you remember the tackle he missed on the 7 yard line at the end of the game on the Squeelers' scrub running back letting him waltz into the end zone last time we played them? I am suggesting we look at his total body of work. After all, he is no interception-king. We are in the heat of the playoffs, but to me his game has slipped a notch. Watch how many times he lets a runner get outside him and around the end when he is supposed to be a safety valve. Yes, I believe his game has slipped a notch overall just like Kelly Gregg's.

I like Dawan and wouldn't mind keeping him, but he could benefit from having say a rookie Safety or a Veteran coming in and giving him a challenge for the starting job. A little competition doesn't hurt anyone, and I think Dawan would really benefit from that and would become a better player that way.

I did see that and he wasn't the only one missing tackles in that game. It was a costly mistake on his part but like you said look at his body of work and he was been good. He was in the running for Defensive rookie of the year at one time.

As others have said, Dawan is a solid player and gives it his all but his missed tackles are so egregious, they automatically draw heavy criticism. Him lunging at Jason Snelling against the Falcons at the goal-line and trying to tackle Isaac Redman high against the Steelers come to mind as missed tackles that directly led to TDs.

I'm glad he's a member of this team but I just wish he'd use better technique tackling in key situations.

Dawan is good but we are always trying to make this football team better. Like you said, he isn't the same guy he was before the injury and I think that is affecting his tackling/decision making.

Sure he makes a lot of tackles, but they are usually 17 yards up the field. Ever since the whole Jamal Lewis thing he rarely goes low on a tackle. However he did make a good special teams tackle last game, if only he could line up 40 yards down the field before every snap he could pick up enough momentum to make a good tackle.

All complaining aside, I think he is a serviceable guy who occasionally makes a big play, but it does get annoying seeing him puff his chest out and lurk over the guy he just tackled after allowing an 8 yard gain.

He makes tackles depending on where he is on the field. Would you complain about Reed making a tackle 20 yards down the field? No, because he's a SAFETY. Truthfully, Landry makes a lot of tackles at or around the LoS, including that 4th down stop last game.

I've noticed that whenever a running back breaks a few tackles at the line, he usually stops when he gets to Landry.

Landry's biggest problem? Ed Reed!

When you're playing alongside of a HOF player it's easy to not get the credit you deserve. Go ask Jarret Johnson what he thinks on the subject.

dawan had a great year, 111 comb. tackles? he's a tackling machine. And well when you think about it, i usually see dawan up in the box while ed is playing centerfield. Since ed has had those neck problems he cant really tackle like he did when was younger BUT did anyone see that hit on mccluster? :D you know the tag team of him and dawan are gonna be layin some wood this saturday ;)

If a better player comes along and can take his job the by all means lets make him the backup.....but I don't see that happening unless the Ravens draft someone. If you asked the coaches of how Landry's play has been they will tell you he's a huge part of their defense moving forward and is a huge part of what they've done this year.

Listen, this year the Ravens have missed more tackles than I can ever remember. It's not all on Landry, he's the last level of defense, maybe some guys in front of him whiffed on some tackles, he and Ed Reed are the last line of defense back there...even the best of them miss a few. He came up big in the last game and made some nice plays.

He has missed key tackles in the redzone and been spotty in safety coverage. Ed Reed had no training camp, had surgery, missed 6 games and still has played at a high level. I know Landry is not on his skill level but he has frustrated me to no end with his bad tackling angles. He is the strong safety and suppose to be the best tackler in the secondary.

We seem to expect more of Landry when hes really just a solid player who stabilizes the position. Not terrible but not pro bowl either.

Holding Landry up to Ed Reed's standards is so unfair, Reed is already considered on of the best to ever play the game, no matter what position he plays. You can't measure Landry against Reed...that's unfair to anyone who ever will play that position next to Reed.

Landry will be a UFA this year and being a recognizable name on our league wide known D will get him lots of offers . It will be tough to keep him since we've seen better versions of Dawan in the past

Dawan has missed some key tackles this year but as others have said he is a solid veteran who has a great repor with Ed back there. I have to think we'll see more of the KC Dawan Saturday and the rest of the season (however long that is) since he is a pending free agent...

Sorry Scrock,
I like Landry and think he is good most of the time and although I agree Landry may still be hurting in the neck, and that he may be trying to avoid another neck injury, the guy that is hurting way worse than him- ED REED, still hits hard, tackles/wraps up correctly, (not too high) moves his feet through the tackle, and drives his man to the ground. I understand everybody gets beat at times, but not by correcting their technique. Landry needs to work on that, if the guy is bigger like Hillis, go lower. Tackling technique is correctable. Unfortunately when Landry misses, its always at the worst times of the game it seems, which creates
hostility from the fans.

Let him go. We can address SS in Draft or Free Agency. Seriously, he isn't that great, I will not miss him. I miss 2006 him but everything after that has been average.

That neck injury really made him more cautious and not as aggressive imo.

He was absolutely a hit monster before that neck injury

Look at this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMLAttsi9gk

We haven't seen a big hit like that since the neck injury

I totally agree with you, I never understood the hate some people have for Landry. I've only complained about him one time. And right after I was done complaining, he got an INT. He is a very good safety who is a perfect fit with Ed Reed beside him

Maybe your right but do you know what would be a heck of alot better playing back there next to Ed Reed, JIM LEONARD, nuff said.

I was so heart broken when he went to the Jetts , more so then when Bart Scott went.
You could see his Talent a mile away.

Im sure Everyone can Agree with me on this one.

I miss Leonhard's big punt returns but he's never been anything special as a safety.

I have no complaints Dawan is a beast. I love seeing him back there. Nobody said anything in camp when he hurt Mase and knocked Willis Mcgahee's tooth out. He is a hitting machine. Not to mention, the one on one with Peyton Hillis after a big Run. I have no complaints.
