Ravens Sign WR James Hardy

He could be a very underrated, overlooked pick-up... I'm hopeful he can get/stay healthy for us and be that big target we've been lacking.

The only reason that the Bills cut him was because Stevie Johnson was poised for a breakout season. Plus, like Alexir was saying, Hardy was ineffective with Trent Edwards throwing passes. Im sure if he was on the roster while Ryan Fitzpatrick was the starter, he would have had a good season.

I don't think Stevie's breakout is why they got rid of him. They got rid of him because they were fed up with his injuries. The Bills might also expend Evans, so they might be short on WR.

Was just about to post this

Kinda gives you a hint that maybe Mason and TJ aren't coming back
[/quote]
They will be back. TJ said "Baltimore is where I want to be." and Mason would never leave the Ravens unless he has an injury and needs to retire. (That will be a sad, sad day :( )

I might be the only one but Im kind of hoping mason retires. I love what he has done for the Ravens but I want to see a younger group of receivers next year. I want housh to get resigned as our number two. ANd see what David Reed and whoever else do in the slot.

It's strange. I think a lot of us fans would kinda like to see Mase retire. But its sorta taboo. The guy has done so much for this franchise and is still awesome and productive. But many of us would like to see more youth be injected into the game. That's hard to do when the coaching staff is relying on Mase.

That has to stop next season. The Ravens are literally the only team in the league that didn't have a WR under 30 catch a pass last season.

I think he def has the potential, size, athleticism, I am excited to see how this pans out, could be WR of the future.

At first, I was siked about Hardy's size, but then I looked at his age and now that's what I'm happy about. He was in the same draft class as Flacco. Hopefully he can do some damage, not just in the redzone, but also going vertical. More importantly, I hope he can build the same chemistry with Flacco as Boldin and Mason have.

I suppose I should have realised that was so, but that is really bad. I hope our top four receivers on the depth chart next season has at least a rookie and D.Reed there.

I don't know about you guys, but I want him back. It was only one play that went wrong, look at the rest of his season, it was pretty good. He saved our butts in Pittsburgh earlier this season.

Bringing him back would be taking snaps away from Reed and the WR we anticipate the team will draft. Housh can still play but he turns 34 this year and the lack of long-term promise at the WR position is a glaring issue right now.

The man is twenty five years old. 6 foot five. runs a 4.47. it looks promising in the red zone but signing this guy wont take care of our lack of a lateral threat by himself. He might help but its doubtful he'll make all our WR problems go away.

That being said how do you think our WR depth chart looks at the beginning of next year? How much will it change?

Too early to say right now. I just hope Reed or a rookie is ahead of Mason and neither Houshmandzadeh or Stallworth are back.

How about Hardy. Does he have the potential to go for 500-600 receiving yards in 2011?

I doubt it. I'm not even sure he makes the final roster.

If he stays healthy & is used, he definitely has the talent to get there.

I'm a fan of Hardy but I'd rather a rookie gets there instead

I mean, I wouldn't keep him for a while, but just for this year. He could even just be a backup.

There's no way he'd return without being promised a larger role. And if he was riding the pine, you'd know he'd complain like he did earlier in the season. That would put pressure on the coaches to play him, taking snaps away from a young player.

its kind of a catch 22 isnt it, i think housh, like alot of players in the twilight of their careers need to accept a lesser role, if housh could make as big a contribution as he thinks he can, im sure the coaches would play him more, the ravens wrs core isnt that stacked, maybe he would b better off playing with a team with a weak wr corps, then he would get more snaps

Yeah, I mean, I want him to stay, but if he left, he's not one of those players that I would take it too hard.

James Hardy has a ton of potential. He plays at a good level when he is healthy, and considering he is still a bit raw and the fact that his Qb play really stunk it up in Buffalo even when he did play, I think Hardy has a ton of talent just waiting to be harnessed. I'd like to see us keep him for the year and see how well he does. If he stays healthy, he has a good Qb throwing him the ball with us, and better coaching than in Buffalo to teach him at least a little bit more. Do I think he'll become an instant starter?? No. Do I think he could be a starter in 2-4 years?? Yes. Its just a matter of patience from the Ravens organization with him. How long do they want to have him as a 'project' player?
