NHL Paying For Heinz Field Re-sod

76 posts in this topic
Because of the damage done to the field from constructing a hockey rink for the Winter Classic, Heinz Field will be sodded for a second time, beginning Thursday. The work will be completed Saturday, weather permitting -- one week before the Steelers will play host to the 4:30 p.m. playoff game.

Yeah we would be better of just playing the game on the ice rink. That field has always been terrible.

I don't know why Pittsburg does get field turf??? It is known to be the worst NFL field in the league because of all the use on it.

Because they believe it is an advantage to them. It's hard for offenses to be prolific, hence part of the reason why they always have a good defense. The field assists them in this goal.

I don't think much of their organization, but I actually think that's the one thing the Steelers have right. The natural grass. I'd like to see The Bank with natural grass as well.

The artificial stuff should be reserved for the domes.

Hey, hey , hey. We've had issues, but not recently and I'll remind you that this is a REAL football field. I'll take grass, dirt and mud over synthetic ANYDAY!

Come on, Pittsburgh! Please, just get an artificial turf. The field is TERRIBLE, and when NHL plays on the ice on it, it doesn't help the field conditions at all!

I wouldn't. I know soccer isn't related to football at all, but artificial turf for soccer helps the ball roll a lot faster and smoother, and it's a quick paced game. There aren't as many chances of twisting an ankle like Vick did last night.

More then half of NFL stadiums have grass still? If they do why is Pittsburgh's so bad compared to the rest?
Most of those Stadiums are where grass actually grows in January and also, the Pitt Panthers use Heinz Field.

The Steelers let High School and Pitt University use the field for games. I dont know the answer as to why, Warden prob does. Maybe its just to connect with the community?

Steelers, Panthers and the local high schools all use Heinz Field.

IMO Football fields are supposed to be real and bare between the hashes from 20 to 20.

Bohb, throughout history artificial surfaces have been responsible (directly) for more injuries than grass.

Yeah, the NHL is paying for it...but, they need artificial turf by Saturdays' game, because...well, you can't really play in mud. I'm sure it will be replaced by then, though.

Ok, maybe this will make more sense: I knew they played on artificial turf, but what I meant was his ankle could have been a lot worse if it was on grass, because all the dips and holes can really hurt an ankle.

Yeah, but they need to get some artificial turf, like soon, because it's so much nicer! I mean, when are they replacing it? Nevermind, I'm so confused!
I'm sure it's done already. No way we have an artificial surface anytime soon. Three Rivers had one (same one as the Vet) and it was garbage. Granted, technology has come a long way since then, but then again D. Hixon of the NY Giants was lost in pre-season because of the brand new artificial surface. You seldom if ever see that stuff happen on natural grass. It's biggest downfall is mud and even then, that's what football is all about.

This isn't a back yard. It's a flat surface. I'm not aware of any FB injures do to dips and holes on a natural surface in an NFL stadium. However, I am aware of player who've blown out knees on artificial surfaces.

Really nice fields at local parks on flat surfaces have little spots of dead grass, which is just basically a hole filled partially with dirt. Players who use these fields have been sent out of the season or a lot of games because of these holes. Football fields do have them, whether you see them or not on TV.

No they don't. Not anything that could be considered a detriment anyway.

Worst field in NFL history:

Brian Billick actually refused to allow the Ravens take the field here.

I know when they started putting artificial in stadiums I thought it detracts from the true origin of the game, the way it should be. I grew up thinking mud was part of the game. It looks like artificial is a much harder service.
