Let's Talk About The Best Play Of The Game That Didn't Count.

Everyone's showing a lot of love for flacco, cam, and the defense but how about Sam Koch?

As if we already didn't know he was the best punter in the league, he continued to amaze me today. That punt that touched down less than a foot from the goal line and came to rest at the 1yd line all by itself was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. If not for the offsides penalty that gave the Ravens a 1st down that could have made some rounds on the highlight reels.

He's a major part of the reason why the offense can sputter sometimes and we can still win. Just wanted to show him some love.

Great topic. I laughed when the KC fans came in trying to convince me Dustin Colquitt is as good if not better than Koch. Colquitt is no bum but Koch is the best in the league and that punt alone is proof why.

He's probably the only reason we've been able to win with the way our offense has stalled in the second half of games. Any defense would be gassed if you run 70+ plays on them. Just look at the game today, we ran !=78=! plays on their 'young and inexperienced' defense, and ended up racking up 30 points. The Chiefs threw 5 passes in the first half, had one big run from their star player (who looked pretty dangerous, admittedly, in the first half until he got that shoulder injury) and did otherwise very little. Our D was fresh and free to capitalize on a team in catch-up mode. That's how we are supposed to beat teams, and I'm so happy to see it coming together for the most part right before we play the Steelers in Pittsburgh for the Division Crown!!!!
Wow it's going to be an exciting week of football! :)

Koch's punt was great, as most of his punts are, BUT...

I think the best play that didn't count was LARDARIUS WEBB on a blitz, sacking Matt Cassel, forcing the fumble, and recovering the fumble. It was nice to see Mattison throw some stuff in the game-plan like corner blitzes!

Stupid "tuck rule." It's a fumble... but let's just give it a new name and make it not count! Okay, so can we please call pass interference "the not letting anyone behind you rule?"

That punt stopped like a 90 yard sand wedge> Amazing.

Our kicking game is superior and should continue to give us a huge advantage.

<Raises his hand>

That was awesome!

All the respect in the world for any football team, but Chiefs acted like a bunch of ten-year-old children losing at Monopoly. I was surprised our starters weren't pulled when the cheap shots started coming in.

[i]~ Malkavian Raven

PS: Who thinks if you put a silver dollar anywhere inside the five-yard line, Koch could make it flip over from 50 yards out? I do! The man is machine.. jerk!

A. Koch is the man.
B. Flacco played great.
C. Tuck rule is the worst rule in the National Football League. Notice I said NFL, because it isn't in any other level of the game. Mattison came with a lot of good blitzes. Webb is something else.

Another thing that Koch should be commended for was a bad FG snap. The ball was snapped high, and Koch just snagged that ball up high and planted it on the ground.

The guy is like Superman. We need to line him up as a ILB and see what he can do.

We already know he has a great arm (pass to williams) and can make some moves with his feet (Dallas 08). Im sure he would at least get a sack, int and a touchdown with just one snap. Thats how good he is.

Koch played lights out yesterday, as per usual. It's been a while since Baltimore hasn't had to worry about suspect special teams play. I think we've clearly got the best squad in the league.

Agreed, that play was more clutch than that punt, although both were extremely impressive.

After this year I am really starting to like special teams a lot more, and understand the importance of them even more. THe first 2 years of Harbaugh being here it was more like "this guy was a special teams coach? So where are our special teams at?" But now they're good if not great in all phases, and having Koch punting helps in those close field position battles, and of course it doesn't hurt having Billy to kick the field goal then the ensuing touchback.

I read somewhere that Koch had been practicing rugby-style kicks to pin opponents down inside their own 15. Looks like he's perfected that kick.

He is lights out man. People just don't understand how much this benefits a team because the stuff doesn't make highlight reels. When you force teams to go 80+ yards on your defense this often...you win games.

And of course it stems from Brady. Wouldn't want anything bad to happen to him ever now would we NFL?

not only were his punts spot on but that hold on the one FG where the snap was away from him was amazing. You dont realize how hard that ball is coming for the long snapper, and its hard as a rock and slippery as snot.
