Is Our Defense Still Trustworthy?

29 posts in this topic

The rest of the country seems to think so. Is this unit still riding the coattails of their reputation or are they still legit?

We had trouble stopping the run early in the season. Our streak of allowing under 4.0 yds per carry and finishing in the Top 5 rushing defense was in jeopardy. Yet, what happened? We finished in the Top 5 allowing 3.9 yds per carry. Top notch defensive play is what lifted us up. I think the defense is playing well heading into the playoffs. Let's face it, that defense of 2000 was amazing. We are liable not to ever see such a defense again. I think as fans we are tougher on our defense than anyone. We seem to expect that 2000 D every season. I think our D will get it done in the playoffs.

Our defense was galvanized as the season went on by the return of Reed, and the improving play of both JJ and Redding, both of whom underwhelmed early on.

Naturally, people look at our secondary and think that it is a weak point which people can attack. They say this because Wilson, Carr, Webb and Landry all have their bad plays and they haven't made a name for themselves. When in actual fact, Wilson has made some good plays this year, Carr has been consistently good enough and Webb has also been good for the most part. I am glad we dropped Fabe from the starting lineup though. (Sorry Fabe)

They say Ray and Ed are now at an age where they can no longer carry the defense. This isn't so. Ed leads the league in interceptions when he missed the first 6 games, and all of the practice up until he returned. Ray has once again racked up some top statistics as well as making more game winning plays than anyone else on the team.

The bottom line: The D will do enough for us to win this postseason.

To be in the top 5 for rush defense is huge! It takes away the other teams ability to control the game and forces them to face Reed.
From what I've seen this season, the defense is trustworthy until the opposing offense goes into no-huddle.

Our D is unstoppable when our O gives them rest. 3 and outs from here on are unacceptable. Sustaining drives will sustain our playoff run. D is not the problem.

They may not be as dominant as they once were, but they are definitely trustworthy. It's the offense that you have to watch out for.

Our D could have been #1 in the league if it wasn't for the stat-killing "3-man rush" that we executed to death. I'm not complaining about the stats, I'm just saying we gave up an extra 200 or so yards per game every time we did that.

They aren't as great as they used to be but they are still pretty damn good. If the offense could actually sustain a drive, the defense would get some rest and be more efficient.

Defense is fine, the question is can the offense score a touchdown in crunch time? Can they get a first down when the game hinges on it?

In the playoffs there are very few defenses I would take over our very own.

Our Defense is legit, as a matter of fact our defense is to Legit 2 quit but at the same time our offense needs to do its part putting points on the board and sustaining drives especially when the defense is giving the offense extra possessions. When the defense gets you 5 turnovers in a game, that game is supposed to be a blow out, sorry!

Third in points.

Matty needs to start getting some love. He's gotten nothing but criticism since day one; after 2 years of excellent defense, time to start giving credit for what he's doing.

Two Words --- Hell Yeah

They way they have been playing the last few weeks , they are unstoppable as long as the offense can stay on the field for atleast 3 first downs, we cant be having 3 and outs 3 to 4 times in a row. If that happens then we are in trouble, what defense wouldnt be in trouble.

I love our Secondary and sick of espn and nfl network Still saying they are Suspect.

Think of it this way, its like an Offensive line. If no one is talking about them, then they are doing a good if not great job.

I have respect for our Defensive cord.

I have absolutley no Respect what so ever for Cam Cameron. im sick of talking about that idiot, i get angry just thinking about it everytime. All my buddies are probably sick of me talking about Old Cam Cameron

Just looked at the link, Holy crap. Finally got some love from other states.
If we somehow make it and win the Big Game, i think there will be a few more RAVENS fans popping up around the other states.

werd. Defense is getting stretched thin at the end of games due to the ineptitude of the Offense

My friends do the same. Except, they then proceed to say how its all Flacco's fault and that they want Troy Smith back or Bulger starting

They have played through injuries this season and still look good. I'm worried about how the incident with his brother will affect Ed Reed though. We really could have used a pass rusher via free agency or in the draft. Kindle was a mistake even before he was injured. Let's hope that Suggs has a big day and the Chiefs will fold like freshly dried laundry.

We should have taken Carlos Dunlap from NC in the second round. He set a rookie record with 9.5 sacks this year in only 12 games. Next year, we need to look hard at the DEs coming into the draft and get one early on.

That, and we should've picked Gronkowski (we had an opportunity to because NE ran out of time) or Daryl Washington, who I hear had a good season in Zona

Our defense is swarming... why would you even question that? Hell yeah, they're trustworthy. When I talk about Baltimore's defense to friends & family, I give them all individual credit by citing examples of their more-than exemplary play.

We've had a fourth quarter lead in every game this year and if the offense had played complimentary football -- we could easily be 16-0 right now. Three-and-outs on offense put the already exhausted defense back on the field (and a long field at that, thanks to our special teams' play) every two-minutes.

Defense is not the issue. They'll stop the KC backs early on, force Cassel to throw and give Suggs & Reed a chance to really shift momentum our way. If the offense doesn't keep KC's offense off the field though, I'd be highly skeptical of them doing it in Pittsburgh -- that is if our luck doesn't run out & KC pulls off the third upset of weekend.

It's playoff time. Everything should be clicking by now -- and I hope Cam & the offense prove me wrong -- but it's not.

~ Malkavian Raven

PS: Don't get me started about Kindle.
