Blackout Imminent In Indy

28 posts in this topic

http://www.wthr.com/story/13780814/tickets-still-available-for-colts-vs-jets

boat load of good tickets are still available for this Saturday's game.

I don't want to here " but we're in a recession!!" poop.

this would never happen in Baltimore, our stadium would be sold out in a hour or 2.

I guess everybody in Indy can't come to the game because they're too busy building a museum.

I also think that some of the fans might be spoiled by the team's success over the past decade and assume that this is an easy win that isn't worth the ticket price.

I didn't see anything about a blackout Bohb. <_<

I was appalled there for a minute. I mean, I don't think there is anyway a playoff game would ever be blacked out. They'd give the tickets away before they;d let that happen.

The Vikings-Eagles playoff game in Minnesota a couple of years ago was almost blacked out. It's entirely possible. Not likely, but possible.

I thought there was a NFCW team that happened to in the last 10 years,
The Cardinals were almost blacked out during the team's Super Bowl bid.

Keep in mind, the blackout for the Colts (as well as any potential home game blackout) would be for the local TV market only, not the national viewing audience.

After looking into it a bit more, there seems to have been a few close calls and concerns here and there in the past. Still, I have a hard time believing they'd allow it to be blacked out. It's the NFL's own rule and Goodell would lose out on recognition, insight the fans and sponsor revenue and Lord knows what else. Maybe in the future with another Commish, but I find it too difficult to believe Goodell would allow it.

Well I'm sure their sound crew can make up for their lack of a filled up stadium...

It gets better just wow.
It's Wednesday. The playoffs start for the Colts this Saturday. They play at home, in Lucas Oil Stadium, against the NY Jets. Yet, as of this posting, roughly 1,000 tickets are still available. These tickets must be sold by 8pm Eastern today or the playoff game will be blacked out locally.

Things have gotten so desperate that Colts players are taking to Twitter, begging followers to buy tickets.

Again, this is a playoff game, folks.

Fans know the team isn't that good
Fans aren't dumb, even though they look and act the part. We all have watched this team for sixteen weeks. We know what they can and cannot do. We know that, barring some kind of miracle, this isn't a Super Bowl team. If they still had Dallas Clark, Austin Collie, Melvin Bullitt, Bob Sanders, Anthony Gonzalez, and Jerraud Powers then yes, this team would undoubtedly be a favorite to win the Super Bo
Franny that was the game I was thinking about

Seriously though its the Jets. Who really wants to watch that team, when they can have the real thing in watching Baltimore instead?

That fan-written article was probably the most arrogant thing I've read all week. So the writer says that it's not the fans' fault if the stadium doesn't sell out because of the owners' greed -- yet the reasons he lists are nit-picking about the team's performance, despite having been good enough to win the division and yield a Top 10 offense.

That definitely sounds like a fanbase spoiled by winning. I know plenty of Ravens fans who would go to a home Ravens playoff game, even if the tickets were $1,000 a pop. Sure, going to the playoffs has been old-hat for the Colts, but those fans should know not to take their team for granted since karma for the infamous move to Indy could always come back to haunt them later.

I know we did not buy our playoff tickets this year more because of my mother's illness, and the loss to the Steelers, but the garbage this guy is spouting is just unbelievable! Baltimore lost a team to this fanbase??? It just boggles my mind. The Cardinals not selling their tickets is more understandable because I'm not sure their fan base could actually believe their team was going to the playoffs lol

Never know someday if Peyton is down, they won't make to playoffs or not even through the season. Would they miss home game playoff? They'll be sorry for it...

PS: I wonder why don't Jets fans buy the rest of non-sold tickets?

They travel pretty well, who is to say they have not? Actually including his time here Rex is 1-5 against the Colts.

Yeah, if he gets blitz-happy against Peyton, it could be a looong day for the Jets.

I've broken out these stats ad nauseam every time someone brings up Rex Ryan's history against Peyton Manning:

Since 2005, Ryan's first year as a defensive coordinator, Manning's numbers:
5-1 (including playoffs)
Outscored Ryan's team 129-51
108 of 171 (63.1%) for 1321 yards, 12 TDs, 2 INTs and a QB rating of 105.4.

Theoretically, if Manning were to play a 16-game season against Rex Ryan's defenses, he would average 288 of 456 (63.1%) for 3523 yards, 32 TDs, 6 INTs and a QB rating of 104.8. In the one regular-season loss to Rex Ryan, Manning was benched shortly before the end of the first half when the Colts' starters were being rested for the playoffs.

Peyton Manning owns Rex Ryan's defenses.

They avoided the blackout.

There were two stories floating about. One that they couldn't sell the tickets and one that the Jets returned 5,000 tickets and that was why they had to scramble to sell them.

Dang the Jets returned 5,000 tickets? I would have made the Jets pony up some of the $$$ if the NFL had to buy the remainder if the tickets. Either way problem solved and as others said there was no way it would have been blacked-out.

Didn't Curtis Painter finish out the sole loss?

I figured they would work it out somehow.

It would have been funny though if one year after having 11 fans greet them following the SB, they were unable to sell out their next post-season game.

Yeah I figured there was no way a blackout of a playoff game would be allowed. That 11 fan thing still leaves me smh.

No way that game will be a blackout...the tickets will be bought up before the game. The SD/Cincy game was supposed to be a blackout and the remaining tickets were bought and this is a playoff game with a #1 market team playing.

According to the New York Times a playoff game has actually been blacked out before. Oddly enough the most recent time was a Ravens game in Miami. Jacksonville also closed off a portion of their stadium years ago to avoid this, although I'm not sure if they did it immediately before a home playoff game.
