Notes On The Ravens

34 posts in this topic

Found some Ravens stuff on two different blogs:

Hashmarks: http://myespn.go.com/blogs/hashmarks/0-7-4...vens-Notes.html

Says Dan Cody is healthy and practicing with his hand in the dirt. I'd like to see him do well.

And some more injury stuff from the Sun: http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/blog/

"Williams' return was perhaps the most eye-opening, especially after the fourth-round pick in the 2006 draft hauled in a high pass from quarterback Kyle Boller between cornerback Corey Ivy and safety Jim Leonhard and raced 50 yards to the end zone this morning."

Think we've learned to wait and see with Cody, but I'm pretty excited about Williams coming back.

Good news on Williams, hopefully he gets that starting job in training camp. He's a playmaker.

haha our QB situation is interesting. Kyle "the ineffective career backup" Boller, Troy "small but brillant...some of the time" Smith, and Joe "I might be good" Flacco. Give the ball to Smith Harbs, and just let the man run for awhile. Then give it to Flacco when he's ready.

Flacco able to stay sharp

How are we supposed to count on Kyle if he's getting intercepted by the likes of Derrick Martin, a 3rd stringer?

WOW, just WOW. My goodness, they cant even hit him yet. He doesnt even have his pads on yet. No, backups should be able to make plays like that on your first string QB. Boller is done.

Let us all remind ourselves that these are just little minicamps.

Maybe Smith and Flacco look great without pads and Boller looks like ****. So what?

I'm not saying Boller is a going to be our starter or that I'm even a fan of his, but it's June for crying out loud, there's still plenty of time to make judgments.

Come on. Let's be real. Your throwing pics to a 3rd rate DB that might not even make the squad and there is no real pressure coming at you. They cant even hit you and you KNOW this but you still dont use your mechanics and you throw a pic. Its unaccecptable, especially for a guy who has been in the league 5 years. I could see if it was Ed Reed or Cmac, those guys are great players but Derrick Martin. This is vintage Boller. I agree we cant judge Flacco and Smith because we havent seen either one of them enough to make that judgement but how much more of Boller do we need to see before we can call a spade a spade and judge that he sucks. Shall we wait another 5 years?

Yeah but it's not just a thing where he had a bad day. He's been throwing interceptions on a regular basis since May. And the guy is working with our 3rd stringers. I don't think his INT total will decrease once he throws the ball in McAlisters direction.

It's only practice, man. I'm not saying Boller's a good QB, just don't make broad, sweeping generalizations. And so what if it's Derrick Martin defending? Would you feel anymore secure if Smith threw INTs to Chris McAlister? I'm sorry, I can't commit to any real stance on any thing in the NFL in the beginning of June

maybe Boller needs to intentionally throw it to the defense, and maybe he will hit the recievers on accident? dunno.gif

Exactly, its only practice and he's already screwing up. If he cant get it right when it doesnt matter and there's nothing in his past that says he can get it done when it does matter, what makes you think that judgement right now is not warrented? Chances are people who are not impressed with him are 100% right about how he'll do in training camp and in the regular season. And no you never feel good about any QB throwing a interception to anyone. But there is a big difference between Kyle Boller and Troy Smith in that Smith is only in his second year. Boller is a long time veteran. And there is a big difference between Cmac and Derrick Martin. Cmac is one of the best corner backs in the league and Derrick Martin is just not. Your opinion is well respected, dont get me wrong but my opinion is Smith or Flacco will be a better choice then Boller. I have seen more then enough from Boller to know that he is not a good option at starter for this team and I'll keep that opinion until he proves me wrong, I dont care if it is only June. Boller has been playing like this his entire career.

Everyone throws screws up in practice. And if "it doesn't matter" then why are we analyzing it? It's June minicamps. I mean, if you look at Boller's entire career, yeah, he's not a good QB; but throwing INTs in practice doesn't help prove that. It means nothing.

You're putting too much thought and judgment in these stupid little June practices

I don't know that I'd sing 'Amen" to that. It's SPRING, Boller had a bad pass in a passing camp, who cares? Doesn't seem like there needs to be a whole thread about it. Show me one player that doesn't ever make mistakes and sign him now....give him millions! If you're going to make mistakes seems like now is the time to do it.

If they are so stupid and mean nothing, then why are we having them? They matter and more for this team then most others because we have a new coaching staff. And I am not basing my critism of Boller on just this practice, I am basing on this practice and his entire career.

Only mistakes like this happen on a regular basis with Boller, not just in practice.

I'm not saying that it doesn't happen often, but its June for crying out loud. The coach's see everything, it will be interesting to where he ends up on the depth chart. I wouldn't be shocked if he ends up 3rd. But again, its June and it was one pass in camp. It's a clean slate with new coaches, and other than the superstars everyone is fighting for a job. At this point, all of the QB's are fighting for their position on the depth chart.

I said Quarterbacks throwing interceptions in practice doesn't matter.

These practices are being held as a way for teammates to become acclimated with each other, a new coaching staff, a new (offensive / special teams) system, and most importantly acclimated to themselves. No of the players are up to their potential in June. They make bad decisions, they are somewhat out of shape, of course I'm speaking in generalities, but c'mon. It's JUNE, man

First off, I would like to say that I definitely do not want to sit through another season with Kyle Boller aka. Captain Inconsistant. That being said, I would like to point out though that it wasn't like he was playing with first, or second string recievers. The pass was intendend for Kerry Reed. Wait a second who is that again? Seriously, I would expect Martin to be able to beat a guy who won't even be on the team by the first preseason game. Lets not read too much into it. Then again, don't let me interupt your Boller Bashing.

And why is he playing with practice squad players, again? Its because like someone else said he's been doing this since OTA's began. And its not bashing, if its the truth.

Dude, you're too close-minded.

What if Boller starts lighting it up in August, will you still want him as 3rd string because he was throwing INTs in June?

I also said I'd believe it when I see it. If he proves me wrong great but I dont see it. I am sick of sticking Boller in there with hopes of him "turning his career around" only to have him stink up the field again. We have seen enough of Boller to know what he can do. We have two young QBs with potential and we need to get atleast one of them on the field ASAP, so that we can see if we have a franchise QB on this team or not. I seriously doubt Boller starts lighting it up in August, thats wishful thinking.

Gotta agree with you 100% on this one. When you're a 5th year QB with a history of inconsistency, you need to throw bullseyes in your sleep, in the lockeroom and on the field all the time if you're serious about competing for the starter's role. Add to that Boller's lack of the necessary intangibles, such as field generalship and good judgement, makes his margin of error razor thin.

.....also remember Boller is under contract for $3 million this year. He has to be judged at a higher standard than Troy or Flacco.

Good point...but I think Boller needs a fresh start..somewhere ELSE. If we release him, whatever, we'll pay the money, but heck, I'd go with some seventh-round draft pick over boller if we were to trade him.

my thing with Boller is he never really had a feel for the game, from his unorthodox style, to his strideless passes. I never got the feeling he would dominate for any long stretch.
