Ravens Bar - Washington, DC

11 posts in this topic

Hello all,

I recently moved into DC for work, and am looking for a bar nearby (I am easily accessible to Downtown, Dupont, U Street, and Admo) where I can watch the Ravens play (both this weekend and beyond). Are there any Ravens bars in DC that will have a good number of people in purple and black?

If not, anybody interested in rallying some troops and taking over one with me?

There is a bar called McFaddens at 2401 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., near the Foggy Bottom Metro. When I was watching games there I saw around 20 or so Ravens fans in the downstairs main bar. They offer cans of Natty Boh for $3, (I know that expensive, but this is DC.) as well as a special Baltimore football menu with items such as Crabcake Sandwiches. Their website is at http://www.mcfaddensdc.com and they bill themselves as "DC's Offical Ravens viewing headquaters"

Yea, the Rocket Bar is cool. Pay close attention if you try to find it, it's right next to Radio Shack and near Cal. Tort. It's actually directly across from Urban Outfitters.

I've been to Rocket Bar before and really like it (especially given that you can have your own food delivered...). I did not know they had a strong following of Ravens fans there to watch the game. Might be worth checking out.

I don't recommend going to McFaddens at all. I went there twice this season for games, the first Steelers game and then the Texans game. The Steelers game was fine and they had the specials they advertised and there were about 20 fans or so watching.

The Texans game was the complete opposite, a terrible experience overall. When we first got there they didn't have ESPN for the pre-game, but had ESPN 2 on as well as the Giants/Vikings game that had been rescheduled. Once the Ravens game started we asked them to put the audio on for the Ravens game and we were told that they would switch the audio over once the Giants game had ended. We asked three or four times for audio for the Ravens game, since it was supposed to be a Ravens bar and even offered to sit somewhere else in the bar if we could get audio but were repeatedly told that it wasn't going to happen. After about 6 tries and having multiple people talk to the manager and explaining to them that they are advertising as a Ravens bar they finally switched over the audio for the game.

Also, they didn't have the full kitchen open because as the bartender said "they weren't even sure they were going to open that night" which makes no sense when there is a Ravens MNF game. And there were no Ravens-specific food or drink specials. And the food isn't any good and the bartender working at the MNF game was more interested in hanging out with her friends and drinking than actually doing her job. We asked her twice to clean up some broken glass around our table and she never got around to doing it.

The place was also freezing, I don't think they had the heat on at all in the bar and it was a cold night out which make it pretty uncomfortable. I could barely feel my toes when I left. And at random points throughout the night white feathers would drop down from the ceiling into our food and drinks, which didn't make any sense.

Basically McFaddens is a dump and I would avoid going there at all costs if I were you and try another sports bar in DC. I watched the opening game at Buffalo Billiards and that was fun, and last season I watched at Ventnors and that was also a good place for games.

I apologize for recommending McFaddens, I have not been there since the Patriots game. Sorry to see it went downhill fast. It sucks that there is no good Ravens hangout in the area and the bar group who got this place started has not answered my e-mails. I'm going to watch the game at Hooters of Washington, DC on 7th Street, N.W. where I watched the Browns away game, they are mostly a Redskins bar and have the sound of that game on when they are playing. It might be different since this is the playoffs and its the only game showing at that time. I will be there wearing a replica Purple Flacco jersey and a Ravens cap, everyone is welcome to join me at one of the tables there.

I'm curious about whether Ravens fans went to Rocket Bar last week for the game and if so, how they liked it. My friends and I are trying to decide where to go and it seems like every bar we look into has a Steelers following. I don't NEED to be at a Ravens bar, but I definitely need not to be surrounded by Steelers fans.

I was not there last weekend, but I can roll up to Rocket Bar with at least 4-5 of my friends this weekend, all Ravens fans. We should try to put together something to get a good amount of people there.

I'd normally join in on this, but I am going on one of the bus trips to Pittsburgh!

Let me know if you guys work anything out. Need to find a good bar in DC to watch the Ravens!

At this point it looks like Rocket Bar for me. I'll have a friend or two in tow, neither particularly care about the Ravens but they'll be cheering along with me. I'll keep an eye out for purple.
