That sounds like stuff reserved for the apocalypse.
That reminds me, my squirrel, rat and cockroach pate is almost ready...

There are many silly shows were people go around eating absurd things, I don't get it, are they setting us up for something we're not yet aware is coming?

Jokes aside, there are some that think in the not so distant future we'll gradually no longer be able to afford to eat meat, and it'll either be for the rich, or basically a flavoring agent, which in some cultures it already is used that way.

I love meat, even offal and charcuterie is my favorite, but when I think about it, having learned about the production and process of meat, having worked in the food industry and love cooking, eating animals or sea creatures actually disgusts me.

Veggies, fruits, grains, nuts, cheese, legumes, etc. are delicious as well folks...

The rule was you had to catch the food you brought, a lot of the guys were hunters. I used to dive for oysters or was raided my parents freezer for some kind of fish. This was in the 80's before the guy on Discovery channel was eating all the weird stuff. I would have no issue never eating red meat again or pork.
I plan on turning my back yard into a veggie garden this Spring/Summer.

Cockroach I've never heard of anybody eating. They are just filthy insects. That would gross me out. But it wouldn't surprise me if the Asians do.

But I do love those shows like Bizarre food. I am envious of Zimmern. I don't know what my fascination with strange foods are, but they always peak my interests. Seriously, is it wrong to wonder what Bulls Testicle Cerviche really tastes like? It's a native dish in Nicaragua. Why not?

With your last point, I agree. My wife works for Whole Foods and we are well educated in the processes of food. I SUGGEST that everybody watch the documentary Food Inc. That doc is a real eye opener. That is what the food industry has become. We eat mainly organic and local foods here. But I still venture off and eat exotic foods when I can.
I totally agree, and you have always mentioned some great dishes, I can tell you like to eat.
However, Bull's Testicle Ceviche doesn't make sense to me, especially since it's a ceviche, that doesn't make sense to me, unless the meat enzyme can be broken down and safe to eat from the acid, even still, why be interested in bull's balls?
I know you can come back with, then why eat any part of a bull?
Well, some parts appear a bit more moral than others, but that asks why kill the animal? So maybe you're right, and if I have the right chef preparing it, maybe I would to.
But that show Bizarre food, I can't accept that guy, not the fat dude that eats like 20lb cheeseburgers or whatever he does. I do like Bourdain though, at least he's in it for the art, I'll say. I hope that makes sense. He comes across as campy, but if that's the case, what would you call the other dudes? Shock? I'm not down, you need to know the rules to break them.

Food Inc. Yes, I suggest people see that too, as well as fast food nation.
As for meat, in America, aside from the unaffordable specialty shops, Whole Foods is great. And I know a lot of people think it's a trend, but honestly wouldn't you want a real product rather than mystery meat that is being produced for profit and that finds loop holes to get around certain standards that...well I'll stop there, but it's terrible, people, please research real food and it's benefits.

Hopefully we can bring the bay back to being able to gather your own oysters.
In some locations you could, but not only is it a great industry but it should be a great local tradition.
I hate shellfish, well I fear it, I won't get into shellfish issues, but I can't deny oysters, and maybe the occasional scallop or clam, so it's sort of a nice risk I'll take on those things, but never crabs, shrimp, etc.
Unless I know it's being prepared by the proper chef. I know it sounds picky, but when you know about that sort of stuff, taking chances on certain things rather than others makes sense to me.

You will not meet a pickier person then me on shellfish. The guy I was dating in HS bought a bushel of steamed crabs from a truck along the side of the road, well I got so so sick from them. I all but need a pedigree for any crabs I eat. The guy at Reters in Glyndon solemnly swore the crabs were all alive and kicking the 2 times I bought them pre-steamed--otherwise I have to do it my self.g it I have always dove for my oysters and dug clams and I refuse to eat them raw. I personally check each scallop I eat too. I have had food poisoning twice and if I never get it again it will be too soon. I'm a pain in the butt at tailgate too about the proper temperature of food and how long its been out. I know I annoy the hell out of my husbands best friend but oh well--no one is getting a food borne illness on my watch.

Your right about the bull. Zimmern has gotten sick before eating some of these strange foods. Just because his body is use to breaking down different types of enzymes than other cultures. Raw meat from Nicaragua doesn't seem the safest.

We are lucky because since she works for Whole Foods we get a 25% discount, which makes it the same price as regular grocery shopping. It's not a trend, just smart eating. My wife is an absolute hater of processed foods. The problem is food is being made for the masses not for the localized community.

Not to mention as cheap as possible as for profit.
When people buy a fast food cheeseburger for $1, what exactly do you think you are getting as far as food?
Most just think they are getting a good deal.

This thread makes me sad since I just got two fillings and my mouth and tongue are numb. I like everything. I'm 6'2" 120 and eat like a pig. Ever heard of Leslie Sansone's walk away the pounds? I sleep away the pounds. I'd have to say my favorite food is italian even though I'm part Irish, English, Scottish and German. I also like trader joe's beef taquitos with shredded cheddar sprinkled on top and dipped in habanero hot sauce. I like hot sauce on a lot of stuff. I like caribbean jerk chicken. Wonderful brand pistachios. Of course being from Maryland I love crab cakes. The best ones in my opinion are from Olive Grove. I usually get mad breadsticks with mine and use it almost as crab dip. I also like Rocky Run's krabby patty. It's a cheeseburger with crab dip under the cheese. Then there's the crab pretzel with crab dip under cheese on a soft pretzel. Stuffed Crust Pizza from Pizza Hut, the Tuscan 6-cheese pizza from papa johns and the hand tossed pizza from dominos. Favorite toppings are pepperoni, italian sausage and bacon. and sometimes chicken. and of course i also add hot sauce to that. I know. You all are thinking, there's no way this guy eats so much and stays so skinny. He's probably secretly huge. But I've been this way since I was like 10. Maybe younger. And of course I like crabs, shrimp and if I'm in Maine, lobster. For dessert, Cheesecake. I haven't met one I don't like. And Edey's Rocky Run ice cream. I'm starving now. Thanks a lot.

Edit: And I'm picky like moderator 2. I like all of my meat cooked well done. I'm a complete and utter carnivore so I never have veggies on my burgers. Most important thing of all: Take care of your teeth. I drink too many sodas

I wish I had HALF of that metabolism lol. IDK my son has a friend who wears 30w 36 l jeans--and eats like there is no tomorrow and my son is like me--looks at food and gains weight but it helps he is 6' 2.

Nah I'm seriously 6'2" 120. I've been tested for medical diseases such as marfan's(abe lincoln had it) and addison's disease. Addison's was the worst because I just laid there awake while they had me hooked up to saline IV's. I had to laugh though because I thought of a scene from the first Resident Evil when the deep voice said "I want him in the nemesis program" If you guys want to see funny videos of guys making death defying meals, check out, "Epic Meal Time" on YouTube.

Just made some whitefish salad. It's an increasingly rare experience living in the middle of nowhere. A lot of places in Baltimore make it too chunky, so I break it down pretty well with a fork before adding the mayo. Throw in some salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Put some out on top of a toasted bagel with cream cheese, top it with some nova lox and you're good to go.

I will own up to having eaten buffalo meat purchased at a Kroger store some years ago....I thought it was strong, but very good in taste.

Ah, I wish I could go back and enjoy that buffalo meat again.

Just wanted to share one of my southern favorites:

Carolina Casserole:

Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1 cup celery, chopped
1 cup of onion, chopped
1 can of chicken and rice soup (undiluted)
1 can of cream of mushroom soup (undiluted)
1/2 cup rice, uncooked
1 cup of tiny green peas, drained
1/3 cup juice from peas

Topping: 1(3 oz.) can of chow mein noodles

Directions: In a large skillet, brown meat, celery, onion. Drain excess fat and juices. Add both soups, rice, peas, and juice from peas to meat mixture and blend well. Place mixture in lightly greased 2 quart casserole dish and bake at 300 - 325 degrees for 1 - 1 1/2 hours. About ten minutes before casserole is done, put chow mein noodles evenly over the top and continue baking until cooking time is completed. Noodles should be lightly browned.

Mmm good!!!! Hope ya enjoy!!!
