Year of the Raven

My Problem With 105.7 The Fan

83 posts in this topic

Just one question,,,is everybody as pessimistic as 1057thefan says they are....because I hear all year long that all the Baltimore fans don't think were good enough... and I do understand that their are some in every crowd, but nothing sucks more that being a fan of a team where the majority of the fan base is pessimistic.

at least i get to hear Ravens talk all day, even down here in Florida :)

and people are entitled to their opinions. Dont like it? Call them up and tell them, they welcome any calls

I think the people who are willing to call into a radio station and voice an opinion are more of the pessimistic kind. I'm sure its about even in real life though. It also makes for better ratings if there is something to argue.

I listen to the shows because some of the hosts provide really good analysis and insight. I tune out most of the fan calls though.

I've been listening to The Fan since their inception. I started listening because I was excited about the Ravens. They were doing better then I expected and didn't want to miss a second of it. It seems most people who call are the complainers. If they are angry enough, they are motivated to call. I don't think us happy people are motivated to call in. (But don't get me started about Anita)

I think the average person is a little more reasonable with their expectations. I once heard Brian from Owings Mills say "I don't have TIME to wait for Flacco to get better." A much higher percentage of the pessimists feel the need to call in and complain.

I heard that too. He makes me laugh on occasion but he's pretty bombastic.

Today, a fan called the team a "mess".

Yack radio just aggravates me to the point of violence. I was listening after the Saints game and people were calling in and complaining and I'm not sure Peyton Manning or Joe Montana playing Qb and the 2000 defense would appease some folks.

I still think Ken is the only good one on that station. Sucks he doesn't come on till late
I like Ken but he does absolutely nothing to quell the negative sentiments. I remember him saying a few weeks ago(I think after the Falcons game) that he'd take Bradford and Sanchez over Flacco.

I listen to 98Rock during my morning commute after every game to hear what Johnson has to say. Normally, I listen to The Fan on the way home. It offers commentary about too many subjects to focus on only the Ravens. Anita Marx sucked and so does her replacement Jeremy (something). Scott Garceaux is way too passive for a talk show. Still, there aren't many other options in B-town.

Yeah, he can be as bad as his callers sometimes. At least he somewhat blames Cam as well. I like Scott & Jeremy.

So do I.

I really like all the shows. The hosts have their different quirks but they all bring good things to the table.

I think Scott should have gone at it solo this time. Maybe, he would come across as more assertive if he did.

BOB HANEY is now taking Zinno's place on the Bruce Cunningham show, I like this guy he's one of us!

Ken Winer is always wining about something, to the point I have to change the channel.

I disagree. Scott and Ken compliment each other perfectly. Solo shows are usually pretty boring anyway, unless the listeners are entertaining(the best ones don't come on till late when they've had a few).

Speaking of 105, does anyone think that Ed Norris is out of place on a sports-themed channel. Nothing against him, because he actually has a good knowledge of sports. It's not because of his annoying NY accent either (i.e. the perple berd made a terd on the cerb).

Yes and No. He does discuss sports, that's good. He really covers local issues well, that's good. But the day after a game I want sports and only sports. the rest of the week I enjoy listening to him on the drive in.

At first I got annoyed with all the guys complaining about Anita. I figured they just couldn't stand to have a woman on the show. I was happy that women were represented. I was really disappointed when I realized that she drove me crazy. The only time I ever turned the station in frustration was when she went on a high pitched rant. disappointed.

I dont listen to that station but I personally am VERY optimistic. With Indy out of the way I see no team we are "UNABLE" to beat.

I like our odds very much.

His trash talk actually got me fired up for the Ravens/Jets game more than anything. The guy is delusional.

If you look at it from a psychological standpoint, pessimists are more likely to call because they are more compelled to speak out about their opinion due to their anger and dissatisfaction. They need an outlet and use these call-in shows as a cathartic release. In some cases, callers also seek validation of their opinions. We, as humans, crave affirmation and we like being told that we're right. We hate being told that we're wrong and we hate being excluded from the majority.

That doesn't mean that there aren't optimists out there, they just have no incentive or motivation to call.

I don't like Scott's show. He might be great at baseball talk, but he doesn't always know what he's talking about when it comes to football.

Bruce is still my favorite. Monday and Friday when Preston is on is great.

True.

I love Bruce's show as well and I agree, his shows with Preston are really good. His "bonus feature" of grading the coaches is a nice touch.

Well, Bruce now has the best sportscaster in Balmer, Bob Haney, at his side for the foreseeable future. Bob is old school Baltimore, great radio voice, 100% authentic Balmer and very knowledgeable. Bob deserves his own show but in the meantime he will add a lot to Cunningham's show, Haney, Bruce and Preston should make for great radio.

I remember it was either 105.7 the fan or we were watching the anita marks show and a caller called in and said we should move T. Gooden to safety or use him as a corner in certain packages....I laughed for a while.

Most callers are frustrated for a good reason though. Inconsistent play is frustrating to watch. Lack of offense and no 4th quarter defense.

I mean seriously, Harbaugh tells Flacco and Rice last year in Indy after we lost that he will get them "weapons" for next year and what happens this year? We average less points a game then we did last year!

Tough to overcome poor o-line play.
