Cam's Favorite Plays

64 posts in this topic

I don't like the way Cam uses our player. He never tried to adapt his routes to the kind of player we have. We need more crossing routes, quick routes.... I was watching a video of Kurt Warner talking about how well the Pats uses their personnel and I was like.... hmmm Cam you need to get better routes in your playbook

http://www.nfl.com/videos/new-england-patriots/09000d5d81d71a4f/What-makes-Brady-so-successful

This is the video I'm talking about. Too often we see Flacco hold the ball too long because of the long routes but heylets face it, a 10 yards completion can turn into a 30 yards gain with the players we have. Quick slants with Boldin, Housh... Out routes, under over in playaction behind the LBs....

With the regular season over, I'd just like to reflect on some of the plays Cam called at least once a game. Some times they worked, other times they didn't. Whether the situation called for it or not though, Cam usually worked them into the game somehow.

Here are some of mine:

Pump fake draw to Rice

Stallworth reverse

Screen to McClain

Mason comeback route

Fades near the goal-line
The pump fake draw is expected and never works. Maybe if Flacco starts throwing the ball on a very similar play in the playoffs we can have success on it both ways. The Stallworth reverse is good, but would be better if we used him more in the passing game. The screen to McClain is good when he doesn't lose his footing or stumble. He is so uncoordinated. The Mason comeback route works a lot. But he and other receivers on the same route need to attack the ball. I would say that not happening is responsible for 3 of Joe's interceptions this year. I can remember one by each of our top three WRs

Agreed. I remember Boldin has been guilty of that a few times this season and even on Joe's pick against the Bengals Sunday, Heap could have come back for the ball when he was saw how much air there was under it.

And the fade has worked, but Joe normally struggles throwing it correctly.
I can only remember it working once this season. And it came because the CB mistimed his jump. Regardless, are fades what Boldin, Mason and Houshmandzadeh have excelled in during their careers?

Im giving Cam the playoffs to earn my trust back. Otherwise, I'll be on board for firing him. Super bowl or bust for Cam (baring a huge defensive colapse)

Is anyone else hoping that Cam has been holding out all season on some secret good plays? Just because he knew we could make it to the playoffs using these dinky little plays? I really hope he does that to throw these next few teams for a loop.

It's sad, but yes

I'm hoping the entire team has just been warming up for this, the real season.

this is generally what his favorite play looks like

correct me if I'm wrong, and yes to the far left is out of bounds.

That's awesome man. Now picture a playbook with 10 pages like that. Bam! There it is.

I will defend the Mason to the sticks and back play!

This is at least a great play, always a first down!

Yup, probably the route Flacco throws to the best.

Mcgahee up the middle everytime he is on the field
That irks me to no end. I don't think Willis has seen a screen pass since taking one to the house against the Dolphins.

its seem like the pump fake draw never works prob since we dont have a quick pass in our playbook. Everything seeem like the same 20 yard pass that takes forever to set up.

I remember two against the Panthers, but they both lost big yardage.

You know as well as I do that Cam hates anything that works. How's he going to win games with effective play calling? Search me.

True, that's another issue with this offense that's pretty overlooked. A LOT of these plays we have take so long to develop.

But it's partly on Flacco. I still believe Cam's calling is horrendous and I still realize that Joe is pretty good and much improved, but he does need to do everything quicker. From the dropbacks to the reads to the wind ups to the release. It seems to give defenders a chance to diagnose the pass before it gets to the intended WR.

Psh we have Kevin Gilbride as our OC. Ours goes a little something like this..

Run, Run, Pass. Run, Run, Pass.

Oh and on 3rd and short, we run sweeps with Brandon Jacobs.

Shhhhhhh. You don't want KC to get a hold of our playbook you just posted. Does Cam know that you have a copy?

LOL

It is sad isn't it? We all keep hoping that Cam is half the genius that Harbs keep trying to convince us he is.

My argument to myself is this: No one who has been around football that long could really be so completely unknowledgeable. Right?

I ask myself that same question numerous times seemingly every game.

Listening to the radio, I was just reminded of this great play Cam ran last season but we haven't seen once this year.

Btw is it just me, or does anybody else get pissed when you're playing madden with the ravens with gameflow and they call the play when you are in the shotgun with 4 streaks with a checkdown to Ray Rice

It just angers me

hahah you're right I don't use the gameflow anymore.. but the shotgun empty backfield with Heap and Rice crossing behind the backer and Housh inside route at 10yards is a great play that works all the time if you play it the good way (zone or man defense)
