Cam's Favorite Plays

64 posts in this topic

With the regular season over, I'd just like to reflect on some of the plays Cam called at least once a game. Some times they worked, other times they didn't. Whether the situation called for it or not though, Cam usually worked them into the game somehow.

Here are some of mine:

Pump fake draw to Rice

Stallworth reverse

Screen to McClain

Mason comeback route

Fades near the goal-line

Rice dive

How about the 3WR/1TE/1RB formations where all the WRs and the TE goes deep and Ray Rice is in to block while Flacco gets sacked.

Good times. :)

Shhhhhhh. You don't want KC to get a hold of our playbook you just posted. Does Cam know that you have a copy?

You know Cam is too smart not to have a back up plan. Since he leaked our gameplan we are going to go with the old reliable run run pass an then punt now. They will never see it coming.

I know my memories are sour because we're talking on the back of a bad game, but to me it was just everything that didn't work bar one or two plays a game.

When I originally read this, I thought you said "Does Cam know that he's meant to have a copy?"

And the answer is probably not.

It's actually a Stallworth end-around that Cam loves so much, with a little misdirection just for kicks... the reverse is his second favorite Stallworth play.

Mason comeback route-A) It's extremely consistent and is especially valuable on third down and moving the chains.

Screen to McClain-C) Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But when were going against a good, discipline defense that specializes in getting bodies around the football, it's not gonna be very good. Especially in the playoffs.

Stallworth Reverse-D) It's getting more and more predictable by the minute. It worked a couple of times, yes, but with the game winding down against the really disciplined Steelers defense, we try it and lose 11 yards. Not to mention, it may have gone for 15 yesterday against Cincy, but he fumbled and lost.

Pump draw to Rice-F) This play worked soooo well last year for us. But the difference is that then it was a straight draw without any pump fakes that give the D line time to create penetration. And also, now we don't have Yanda at RG, we have him at RT. Yanda>Chester, so we can barely run up the middle this season. Not to mention, it is so predictable and makes no sense to consistently attempt behind a dreadful O line like ours.

Fades near the goal-line Absolute Fail) We've tried this multiple times this season and it only worked once. That was to Boldin for the TD in Atlanta. But I don't remember it working before or after that, despite our share of attempts at it. But it brings up a big concern. We need to find a way to throw the ball well down in the redzone, particularly inside the 10. My suggestion is to use Dickson and Pitta more in terms of receiving. Daniel Wilcox was such a freakin reliable target down there. If one of those two can become the next Daniel Wilcox, were in business. But even still and especially if they're not, we've got to find other ways to throw the ball down there and score more TDs than FGs.

And the common theme with all of those plays we mentioned.....they're all becoming more and more pedictable. So they're most likely to get progressively easier to stop, with the exception maybe of the comeback route.

Even though I don't have video of it, I really liked the double screen fake and throw to Heap up the seam Cam called against New England. It was really creative play.

The screen play to Heap yesterday was pretty good too. Although you wonder if Heap can make that play, why can't Dickson(who actually has some speed) do it? :34853_shakehead:

Flacco underthrew Dickson on his post route and it was almost picked off.
Umm...no. Joe certainly appeared to throw a poor ball but the ball hit Dickson in the hands but Hall batted it out perfectly.

I'll always remember the game against Denver where we were fourth and goal, and Cam called a rollout to the left and Flacco got sacked. Favorite play everrrr

exactly! It was underthrown which gave the DB a chance to touch it. Dickson had to come back for the ball...underthrown.

I was refuting the ball was almost picked. Joe obviously underthrew that ball.

I also forgot about David Reed's reverse against the Dolphins. The second fastest WR on the team gets one rush but no catches on the season.

I love the short slant and in routes we run....errr....wait we don't do those.

You should run those ideas by the front office, you might just land a job lol.

Here's another play. Rice got the first down and Boldin made a sweet block but notice the routes Q, Heap, Houshmandzadeh and Mason ran. Everyone flying up the field and the one middle option is Rice. -_-

I believe that was the intention of the play from the start.
The receivers running up the field was to draw the defenders away from the line to give Rice some running room.

Yeah, Joe would have had him had he thrown the ball towards the middle of the field, which was nothing but green....

Boldin and Housh are perfect for the deep in route... sigh.

But what if a LB with fleeter feet had been spying Rice as opposed to defensive tackle?

Fact is, we've seen the "all streaks" play or some variant of it a number of times this season. Why Cam doesn't have any of none receivers run a shallow or deep in just makes no sense to me.

Cam's favorite play is watching the defense stop a fourth and goal after his offense had another three and out.

Hey he got creative. Who would think we would drop our number one receiver in to block? We also did a screen to our slowest back. You guys are ungrateful fans you are. <_<
