Should Suggs Be Fined?

It definitely should have been a flag, but a fine? Seriously? People are fined for things like helmet to helmets hits, that could put a player in danger. They go through a lot as NFL football players, I think they can handle a punch to their face.

I do feel bad for Simpson, though, since he was trying to be nice. It was probably a misunderstanding, Suggs probably didn't know it wasn't Simpson who ripped his helmet off. Either that or Simpson was rude about handing him his helmet in some way.

I think the reason fine is being mentioned is because there was no flag thrown. It's the only way to punish him now.

Suggs already came out on his own about this incident.

http://boards.baltimoreravens.com/topic/31619-blogs-late-for-work-13-suggs-admits-he-%e2%80%98got-away%e2%80%99-with-punch/

I'm alright with him receiving a fine provided the player who ripped off his helmet receives one as well and that it is in line with the incident.

Hey kids, he SHOVED SIMPSON IN THE FACE, snapping his head back. Of course he should be fined. If he doesn't, just goes to show the NFL is hypocritical in its approach to players safety. A punch isn't as harmful as helmet to helmet, so the fine shouldn't be that steep, but it's an act that has no place in this sport. This isn't hockey.

That still doesn't mean he should be fined. It isn't something that makes him or the team look good, but fines are mostly for helmet to helmet hits, for player safety. It was just a harmless punch. Obviously, Simpson said something to him that he shouldn't have said.

He could have been ejected. There is no such thing as a "harmless punch" in the NFL anymore.

That is true, but it's not like he started a huge fight about it. You have to feel sorry for Simpson, unless if he said something dumb to Suggs while "helping" him get his helmet, which he most likely did. If there is a fine,it should be small.

I don't think he could have been ejected. Andre Johnson and the Titans player were ejected, and they were seriously fighting. Suggs wouldn't have been ejected for ONE punch. It took the Texans and Titans players a lot of punches, to rip each other's helmets off and one to pound on the other guy's back to be ejected. It wasn't that serious.

But, if he's fined, he should be fined a small one, like $2K or maybe even $5K

Richard Seymour was ejected for an openhanded shot to Roethlisberger's facemask. He was also fined. Suggs definitely "could" have been ejected. No question he'll get some sort of fine. Albeit a light one.

Like Warden said, the NFL is trying to negate any kind of punching/slapping/rigamaroll after the whistle. I don't think we want the NFL to start dictating how hard a punch actually was and basing the fine off that. So if a player only gives a half-hearted punch vs a full haymaker should that really make a difference? Once that starts happening you let objectivity into the game and who should be fined/removed from the game depending on how hard a punch is.

As for me being a Pittsburgh fan and starting the thread, that is a moot point. Suggs did something blatant and I didn't accuse him of anything in the first post, I just wanted to know Baltimore fans opinions. You talk about the NFL turning into a pansy sport for taking out rough play. But how are you acting any different by getting so bent out of shape when I asked a question in a respectful manner about one of your players, that's just a little sensitive on your part if you ask me.

As stupid as Sizzle's punch was, you gotta love the way he has been going out of his way to console the losing QB. Shows a lot of character.

Chill. I think the pburgh fan comment was a little tongue in cheek.

Both Sizzle and the guy that ripped his helmet off will most likely get a fine.

It should be fined, and I'm glad Suggs realizes that he has to keep his cool in situation like that.

I'm 99% sure Suggs was mad about his helmet being thrown off and eyes gouged while being pancaked by that Bengals lineman. When he got up he was mad and just hit the first guy in sight. But you could see his eyes looked really red after that play (from the gouging) and if Suggs is fined, that Bengals lineman should be fined double of whatever Suggs gets.

He won't get fined. He didn't hurt the guy and it wasn't a fight. This happens in every game. Moving on.

Perhaps, but he may have been kidding and it was bad timing as Suggs was pissed off. I mean, the guy DID bring Suggs' helmet to him, right? Could have been something as innocent as "dropped something."If anything at all.

or it could of been something like

"I am going to kill your family and put them in a blender and pour them in this helmet"

You never know!

The refs are just tricking the Ravens players so that when play-off time comes, the Ravens players feel they can get away with BS like that.

The Ravens against Cincy, Pitt, Leaveland -get away with it, against the Colts, Pats, will be flagged, even ejected, every time.

Lack of discipline come play-off time will be very costly, and non-calls like this breed lack of discipline.

A Bengals player will always get slugged for trying to help a Raven, come to think of it, a Bengal player will get slugged just for being there anyway.
