What Happened To The Giants?

How would Vick be the cause of the Giants collapse? Though, IMO you'd have the right position.

Eli is the Giants' problem. After the 3rd pick, the Giants' D just sort of went through the motions.

Coughlin needs to go imo. Even if they do make the playoffs, as long as they fall short of the SB, everyone in that organization will look at their annual late season collapses. Whether it be lose too many games down the stretch to secure a playoff spot or make the playoffs but with absolutely no momentum and go one and done.

Obviously, he doesn't keep them focused enough to play solid, fundamentally sound football, particularly in December. I don't think a new coach would mean completely rebuild the Giants because they still have a QB for the future as well as receivers and stud D lineman for the future. But if they limited their mistakes and played fundamentally sound, they'd be unbelieveably good.

How to Fix The Giants:

1) Fire Coughlin.

2) If Jeff Fisher is available... HIRE HIM ASAP

3) Fix the Offensive Line

4) Fix the Defense. They truly miss Pierce in the middle of that defense, they need to find themselves a Middle Linebacker to fill the gap. That defensive line needs to be fixed, and Fix the secondary.

5) Find a Better Tight End than Kevin Boss.

They went from having the #2 overall defense to giving up 83 points in the span of two weeks. Their defense seems shell shocked. That Eli Manning speech didn't help too much either.

They seem to have one every year. That was the reason I didn't buy in to them when everyone was declaring them as the "best" team in football.

Do you guys think they'll hold onto Steve Smith next year? Would love to snatch him up if he's released
[/quote]

They may choose not to re-sign him but he'll probably get big money(more than the Ravens are willing to pay) from another team.

As for the Giants collapsing for the second straight season, it isn't that surprising. They're a mentally fragile team, especially on defense.

Or, more simply, replace Eli.

To those of you who suggest replacing Eli Manning as Giants quarterback, how would you remedy the situation? Do you choose a young up-and-comer in the draft, or do you take the free-agent market and hope for the best?

True, both of these ideas have their flaws, but I would rather take a chance by going the free agent route, and then make a choice in the draft - in order to have someone who can fit into your system and game plans.

As horrifically bad as he's been in spurts this season, it isn't all on Eli. Their RBs have ball security issues, injuries have been a factor and their D seemingly forgets how to play football at times.

Are you nuts???

One of the best o-lines in football. Kevin Boss produces when ever he is asked to and there is nothing wrong with that defense.

The New York Giants problem is that they have turned the ball over a league leading 41 times (6 more than the second most). Still, they are 9-6. Eli, Bradshaw and Jacobs need to be coached on how to protect the FB.

All other phases are fine. If Coughlin goes, the existing Giants team will be a dream for a new coach to work with (save punter Matt Dodge who may still be salvagable).

I just don't get how the same guy who solved Tiki Barber's fumble-itis, can't do the same for Bradshaw and Jacobs.

How so? No one ever gives him props or credit to begin with. How can he be overrated if he's constantly in his brother's shadow?

Agreed. Sure, he's turned the ball over way too much recently, but the Giants wouldn't have sniffed the Super Bowl without him, and they're in the hunt pretty much every year.

Coughlin may get the boot if their collapse continues and they miss the playoffs.

There's been a lot of talk about it, but I'm not sure why. His career win percentage as a head coach has to be in the upper half at least. I mean, who do you bring as an upgrade? Cowher? If Cowher has any class at all, he's not even spoken to the Giants yet so there is no guarantee he'd go there.

BTW - Coughlins Jaguars used to kill Cowhers Steelers back in the day. lol.

I blame Kevin Gilbride (offensive coordinator). I hate their passing offense. I don't really blame Eli for it, but the scheme has way too much potential to go horribly wrong.

I can't remember where I saw this, but when they get into their shotgun sets they rely too much on the option routes. That's where they get into trouble, I think. Eli and his receivers aren't on the same page. So when a drive stalls, I always see Eli chewing out one of his receivers.

Eli throws one way, receivers go another, pick(six).

In theory, their passing game should work well, because it allows a lot of flexibility. But it also requires the receivers to think like Eli... and who knows what that guy's thinkin.

On their defense, their corners could use some work, but overall, I think their defense is solid. Their D-Line is something to be fearful about, and has been for a while now.

A caller on Sirius this morning said much of the same and he brought up another point: Eli and Gilbride have been together for years (as opposed to a QB getting 4 different OC's in 4-5 years). By now, it is reasonable to believe that they would have evolved into something a little more solid. I still say Gilbride has had some flashes of brilliance, but his direction is where I would look AFTER I solved the fumble-itis.
Note: He didn't last long under Cowher before going to the Giants.

what happened to the Giants? well my best friend is a giants fan.
Eli throwing picks
Bradshaw and Jacobs fumbling
defense falls apart and i guess think they can take a quarter off when they are up 31-10

Vick isnt the "cause" of anything. their turnovers are their biggest killer. had they not turned the ball over as much as they did, they would be sitting in the 1 or 2 seed in the nfc. i guess you could say that for any team, but the giants have a LOT of talent to be sitting at home during the postseason
